Easter, to me, will always mean the death and resurrection of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. What better story of love, that gives to us inspiration and encouragement, is there than the life of our Lord? None! His life was as equally amazing as His death for us.1
Jesus, the Son of God, could have been one of the wealthiest men to ever live. He could have had riches beyond belief and a kingdom here on Earth to out do any kingdoms ever built. But, he chose to walk the earth as a lowly man; a simple Shepherd who tended his flock with tender loving care. His sole purpose in life to spread the word of His Father in such a loving way it is almost unfathomable to imagine such a love. I believe He chose this way of life to show us that monetary value on Earth means nothing. It is the riches we will receive one day in Heaven that means everything and what better way to show this than to live a simple life?2
In His choice Jesus suffered more in His life than any one person ever will. He stood up to the ridicule and the disbelief in sorrow in what the nonbeliever would receive in the end. But, He continued on to spread the word to those who wanted to hear. He produced miracles along the way that should have proved His plight without a doubt. Instead, it only brought Him more hardships with the jealous rage of mere mortal men. Men who were afraid to believe of such a high power that stripped them of their own power.3
This rage eventually brought the demise of Jesus as a man here on Earth. The people thought they could kill Him, not realizing He was the Son of God. He could not be killed. Try as they might, they drug Him through the streets, flogged Him until a human man would have laid down and died on the spot. Not Jesus, no matter how much they beat Him still He rose to His feet to face His accusers wearing the crown of thorns that pierced His skin, the blood from his body streaming down to His feet. Still, He stood strong and bold in what he knew was going to be his ultimate death.4
The most amazing thing about this story is that He did this for us. He did this to save us from our own sins. Eventually, He was hung on the cross, spit at and ridiculed until finally he passed out of this world as a man, saying, "Forgive them Father for they know not what they do," while facing His own painful death. His side was pierced to shower the ground below Him with His own blood. What an amazing symbol of love to have come from Him to show us that we would be washed clean of our sins through His blood.5
The people rejoiced in the streets after the passing of the King of Jews. What an amazing sight it would have been to be able to just see one of these people's faces when Jesus arose from the tomb three days later to walk the earth again and finish His mission. He stayed on the earth for 40 days: first appearing to Peter, then the twelve disciples, to more than 500 of the brothers, to James, all the apostles and then to Paul, (who went on to be one of the greatest Apostles to began the spread of Christianity.)6
After all of this Christ ascended into Heaven to take His seat at the right hand side of the Father who had appeared to the people in the form of a dove. This showed His sign of Peace and security in knowing that Jesus was the first and only to ascend into Heaven and that He did not die. But, He still lives on preparing the Heavenly Kingdom that was promised to us in return for one simple favor. That we believe He was put on this Earth by His Father and died to save us from our sins. He believed in us before we were ever born so why would we not believe in Him and the sacrifice He made for all of us? Not just some of us, but all of us who choose to believe and we all have that choice. Because Jesus has hopes that we will all be in this Heavenly Kingdom one day when He fulfills His final promise to return to the Earth and take us all Home to be with Him in the Kingdom where " Jesus Lives!"7

Easter is all about the King of man9
He fulfilled a prophesy in His plan10
To enable us love's eternity11
Within His death all our sins were washed free12
His love for us all is so truly great13
to die for us He did without debate14
He gave us honor we're not worthy of15
Before the presence of the Holy Dove16
He died a death in agonizing pain17
then resurrected to spread what we'd gain18
If only deep in our hearts we believe19
He's the Son of God for us to receive20
He's rearranging the Heavens for us21
giving an everlasting life a plus22
He rose to the Father within the sky23
Although only in His flesh did He die24
He gives us His Spirit to wash us clean25
Then in his pure light He is clearly seen26
What love and forgiveness sweet Jesus gives27
He died, but yet, in us His Spirit lives28

I think you did a fantastic job with your entry. Your feelings of what Easter means to you, is close to my own feelings. I could feel you put your heart in the short compostion/story that you wrote. The poem that follows is beautiful as well. Gracefully written as always. Thank you SO much for entering this contest and sharing your Easter with me.

Melissa, You have done a remarkable job of telling this story. You not only stayed accurate and true to the facts, but managed to paint clear, vivid images. Easter is one of my most favorite days! When you think about all that was accomplished, and how much it means for us it is mind blowing. What a great love it must have taken to endure all that He did of His own free will. I enjoyed reading this. Good Luck!! Hugs, Penny

Deeply Moving!!!
A beautiful, and deeply moving write! It's been called "The Greatest Story Ever Told," and indeed, what could possibly be greater than the knowledge that One loved us with so great a love, that He'd willingly come to this earth; humble Himself before God and man, and make Himself, as the Bible says "...of no reputation..." (Phil 2:7) Only a love that our human minds cannnot begin to fathom could have made the sacrfices that He did! And you're right, Melissa! Each one of us that comes into this world has a choice; we either believe, and accept that sacrifice that He made that day at Calvary, or we choose to refuse and reject the payment He offered up for sin! He gave us the choice! What Love, even that; the choice to ignore, or blatantly reject the supreme sacrifice! It truly astounds the mind! This was awesome, Melissa! Thank you for sharing your love for Jesus so willingly, and not being ashamed to identify with His story! God bless you, my friend!
