"What concern have I of you", I muttered to my maid, Cai. She was a waste, I believed,if not of a person than of her belief that a person of royal blood should be seen to at all times. Even when privacy is much loved at bathtime or changing of clothes. The only reason she was there aiding me on hand and foot was because my mother stood not a foot away; clucking her tongue and furrowing her brow at my distaste of aid.
She was meant to be, if not born to be a Queen. She loved the respect, the honoe, the awe; not to mention the stares as she walked down a city street. With a red carpet. Mother had always been the one for shows and was overdramatic on many occasions.
"Darling, darling." My mother quickly came close to me until she and I were eye to eye. "Pera, I know you do not love to be aided as any other princess would nor do you like the title, but darling, this is who you are. You were born into this world for a purpose and you will enjoy it." As she talked she fixed curls in my head and my collar, trying to show as little cleavage as possible. All the while she looked at me, staring straight into my eyes.
To any other witness she looked like a mother who cared much for her daughter and wished her to be happy. But I knew that inside mother was practically burning with her rage at my disdain for royalty practices. She had grown with a title upon her head but naught else.Luckily for me she cared enough to care, which was enough for me.
Inside my head I rolled my eyes, but my face showed absolute obedience. "Yes,mother." Adding a small, almost incospicous smile to my face did nothing to the expression in my mother's eye.
She could see my heartbeat,I thought. Even so, she smiled in return, bent her head in a silent farewell and left with her head held high, her walk slow and graceful.
"Drama mama", I mouthed to the mirror in front of me. Heavily ordained with jewels in its hole exterior did nothing upon my concience mind.
Being surrounded by wealt for so long had lost its taste to me. All I knew about wealth was that it got you whatever you wanted. That was all I truly care about.
So far, with my account I was able to build and furnish my own public library not to far away from the palace. This place was home away from home.
Mother had demanded that it be modeled after the palace, so I made it a miniture of the actual size and grandeur. Except, to my mothers horror, it was made out of brass and heavily ornated. No gold or jewels hung from the ceiling or blinded one with its brilliance.
A few pillows, cushioned rugs, and comfortable couches filled the area for those who wished to read in silence as one would at home. The silence at the library was so great and hardly ever inturrupted by the outside world that it was common for you to find sleeping persons on the huge pillows, cushioned rugs, and comfy couches. Once or twice there were occasions when passerbys of far away countries came there to rest, thinking that it be a hotel, only filled with books. When I heard them say this, for I wished to hear what they had to say, I thought them ill in the head.
If I were anyone else I might not have cared if they slept dirty upon the furniture, but I had read of germs and bacteria and seen drawings of what happened when they grew. Consequently, I became very thorough in my bathes and cleanliness of my surroundings. News spread far and wide about this because I had these persons wash in a bath just as dirty as they were, mentioning after they were done that that was what other people would have to rest on when they were though.
"Pera,no!", Cai screamed in disbelief. I had brushed every curl on my head out. My hair fell straight across my shoulder and down my back. Looking over my shoulder with a evil glint in my eye, I stood up and tore the dress in half down the front; revealing skin tight clothes. My shoulders were bare, back free of protection, along the sides of my legs was the language of the ancients. It said "If you never lived, than you have never died." I stil don't know what it meant but it was part of the anthem of my country, so it must be important.
"It is." I whirled around, wondering who could have read my thoughts; but more so to had that sexy voice. "Behind you." Whirling around again I found myself in a dark room, no lights, no sun, yet I could see everything as if those things were here. "Welcome to my world."
Turning slowly, I found myself in front of the most beautiful man I had ever seen. He seemed so angelic in his face; until a shadow crossed his face and he was demonic in appearance: but still beautiful in face, body, and temper. My appraising eyes ran over his body. Startled by my own boldness I quickly looked up to his face, his eyebrow raised. "Finished already? I was just starting to get used to this."
I turned away from him, not looking at anything in particular. "Who are you?" I turned back to find myself back in my room. Cai, was standing in the same place with a horrific expression on her face. Just as I left her. "I am your enemy and your friend. Don't forget it. You will need my help in the near future. That much to be sure." I looked up at the high ceiling in exasperation. "You didn't answer my question." I waited for an answer. It became apparent to me that I wouldn't get one and for some reason this angered me.
"I don't intend to." 1
