Ialy Sianny (profile)

-What story is this character from?1

'Ialy' (and others)2

-Name: 3

Ialy Sianny4

-Age: 5

fourteen6

-Gender: 7

female8

-Appearance: 9

very young for age, very beautiful, black hair, blue eyes (almond-shaped)10

-Any decoration? Body art..etc: 11

none12

-Temperament: 13

Obedient but very emotional14

-Does this character have family in the story? 15

her mother + father (grandmother + grandfather appear in other stories, children pershaps to appear in later stories as well)16

also several other people who are very distantly related (although the family links are not outlined)17

-Any family issues that affect his/her personality? 18

her father is head of her house (Sianny) in The Guild (a secret organisation which lends itself as assassins but is also hostile towards mages)19

-Does this character have any phobia?20

none as yet.21

-Is this character liked or disliked? 22

the character is very likeable, but due to her upbringing and the general way of life of The Guild, she could also very easily be disliked.23

-Introvert/extrovert?24

In the beginning she seems very much like a puppet, although the story is written from hr point of view, so her outgoing thouhgts are heard by the reader from early on. towards the end of 'Ialy' she is quite extrovert, having gained confidence, and in later books is openly very ambitious, although also content with her life.25

-Sexual Orientation: 26

As with all common-born Easterners (although she and the Guild do not see themselves as this), she is not really fussy.27

-Ethnic Orientation: 28

Eastern - in my stories this is loosely based on Chinese/Japanese, although religions and customs do not follow very well.29

-Religion?:30

She worships The Trickster (Vetaro), who is for a while the patron god of The East, but is then disgraced and thrown from his rule by Naru (a new god). All Guild members worship Vetaro for a while before he comes to power, and secretly afterwards, although they lose his favour. Only Ialy and Siofas (her teacher + lover) stay on the good side of Vetaro at the end of 'Ialy'.31

-Any gifts/talents?32

She has the magic of The Guild, which cannot be detected by other mages (and includes the ability to become invisible briefly, throw fire and lightning, heal wounds etc). She can also hear whispered conversations several metres away, which few other members of The Guild can do.33

Another talent, which she only discovers towards the end of 'Ialy', is her ability to see normal mages' magics, and to 'See'.34

-Human or no?:35

Her father is completely human, whilst her mother is part elf, part 'daughter of time' (this means her grandmother, the daughter of time, is on a similar level to the gods)36

-Vulnerabilities? 37

She is unused to living outside her house, and so she doesn't understand the ways of life of other people. She is also still a child (since her life is more similar to an elf's than a human's in length) and therefore sexually vulnerable - though no characters take advantage of this.38

-Any deep and dark secrets that haunt?39

Most of her past is explaind to the reader throughout the book, but she discovers secrets about hr past that she did not know (who her mother is, for instance). She also has to keep her love for Siofas a secret throughout most of the book. 40

-What is their personality? Music, décor, food choice…just describe who your character is as a person here…haha..think of it as a singles profile…:41

She is quite quiet, but she misses very litte, mainly because of her hearing and 'Sight'. She is also very fierce, and hates the life she has been forced to live, and the fact that those who should look up to her disrepect and despise her (because her mother was a foreigner).42

-Does this character have any vices? Any habit? 43

She has a tendancy to jump to conclusions.44

-Is this the protagonist or antagonist? 45

From the point of view of the story, she is the protagonist, but because I love giving different sides to one story, I may later write from the point of view of her father, or a simlar figure, where she would definitely be seen as the villain.46

-What is their occupation: 47

She is a member of The Guild, and in 'Ialy', she is on her first mission (to assassinate an important mage - who very few people like, but even fewer would stnd a chance of killing)48

-Financial status: Upper, Middle, Lower? 49

She is seen as a member of the merchant class, but as a member of The Guild, would consider herself more important.50

-Any prejudice? 51

Since her mother was a foreinger, and she bears the same blue eyes, she is often hated by people who have never even seen her before. Also, because her Guild magic showed itself very late in her life, she was treated like an outsider by the people of her own house.52

-What role do they play in your story? (Make this detailed, under 1000 words)53

She starts off being sent to her father to recieve instructions for her first mission, and sets off towards the north of hr country with her teacher. 54

The story gives several insights into the ways of The Guild (because I may choose to use this organisation for future stories) and into The East.55

Ialy matures very quickly throughout the book, falling in love with hr teacher, but having to be seperate from hi whilst she seduces Iylano, the man she has been sent to kill. Once she has earned his trust, and as much trust as she can from the people around him, she kills him.56

She is the lover who will do anything to be back with her love, despite only having loved him for a few weeks, and at the end of the story she is dead set on revenge, for her father arranged to have her killed when she tried to assassinate Iylano.57

Alhough her strong emotions may seem slightly manufactured, the way that she acts, and her thoughts back them up well, and by telling the story from her point of view, the reader can sympathise with who would otherwise seem a 'melodramatic and fake' character.58

-How did you come up with this character…meaning, what were you doing and what was the thought process behind them? 59

I don't really know how I thought of her - like most of my favourite characters, I got a flash image of a girl, and a few thoughts about her wanting revenge on her father, who tried to kill her, and eventually managed to calm it down into this story.60

-Are there any parts to this character that you ‘borrowed’ from yourself? 61

I don't think Ialy is 'based' on anybody I know, although I do admit that her thoughts about the way that people treat her, and the belief that she will be better than them one day are quite similer to my own at times!62

About my story:63

The Guild - an organisation made up of several houses (run by the eldest member of the 'head family' in each house). They began as a group of mages whose skills were not recognised by their peers, and who broke apart and took wives, bent on revenge. As the years passed The Guild turned its skills to paid killing, selling themselves to any who could pay highly enough, covering their actions with the name 'The Guild', which suggested their trade was that of merchants, not assassins.64

Sianny - Ialy's house, run by her father. As the only child, she should become his successor, but her father would hate to see a woman in such a position, especially one who is such as failure as he believes his daughter to be (he was deeply in love with her mother, but ordered her to be killed after Ialy's birth when she tried to leave - Iasyn escaped, as we find out at the end of the story).65

General Storyline - Ialy is told by her father that she must complete her first mission, several years after the age that most people would do it. She must kill Sioal (meaning mage) Iylano, whom nobody has managed to kill before. Her teacher, Siofas (whom her father sees as dispensable) goes with her.66

Ialy's task is to seduce Iylano and gain the trust of him and his men enough that she can kill him and not be suspected for the deed. Siofas teaches her how to pass as a girl experienced in sex, and she falls in love with him, whist they are travelling to where Iylano is staying.67

When they reach Petydali (where Iylano is staying), the mage instantly suspects them as members of The Guild, but they put away his fear when they reveal that they can see his magic, and he tells them that he can see theirs (until this point Ialy does not know that ether she or Siofas possess normal magic, although Siofas knows that he does, and had formed a theory that she did).68

Iylano, unlike most people in The East, finds Ialy's foreign eyes very attractive, and employs the girl as his maid, allowing Siofas (whom he believes to be Ialy's brother) to join his men-at-arms. Ialy shares his bed every night, learning more and more about men as she does so, and realising that Iylano's two desires (sex and bringing about death) are not disimilar to what she has seen of The Guild.69

Ialy tries to kill Iylano, but she discovers that he was waiting for her to do just that, anticipating the assassination attempt. Hee ftaher had warned him (anonymously)in the hope that he would kill Ialy, thus removing his only heir and the dissapointment to his house. Ialy and Iylano fight for several minutes, before another man appears at the window and kills Iylano with a fireball.70

Ialy does not recognise her saviour, but knows instantly that he is powerful to use such everyday battle magic against so accomplished a mage. She discovers that he is Sir Willano of the Riders (warriors who fight on dragon-back in a neighbouring country). He came to save his son from Iylano's grasp, for Iylano was plotting to kill Jarto, at Ialy's father's command.71

Ialy realises how deep her father's betrayal was, and has a vision of her own future, in which she sees herself exacting hre revenge. She rushes to find Siofas and asks him if he will help her, threatening to kill him if he does not, but he needs no persuasion. He had hoped to persuade her to break away from The Guild.72

Sir Willano leads the happy couple to meet his dragon, and on her back is seated a beautiful foreign woman, with bright-blonde hair and piercing blue eyes. Ialy embraces her mother, who promises to help her exact her revenge, and the story ends, to be continued in later stories.73

Author notes

I thought I'd put another few notes here!
The story isn't quite finished yet, and I'm slightly worried that the opening storyline is too similar to some of the 'Tales of The Otori'. Comments?
Also, I think this storyline is quite original, but I don't if that's just my view of it. Is it maybe more cliched than I realise?

Ok I like what you have put of this story so far. I have never read the Tales of Otori so i can't comment in that respect. But I like the way weave the story. I hope at least in your story you do alot more of weaving of the elements of the story simply than just telling as is done in this character profile. I assume you do.
Umm cliche in what manner exactly? I think the basis for the story is one that I have seen before, as is the case with most stories because there is nothing new under the sun. But what is not cliche, for me at least, is your actualization of the story itself.

    Keep Writing.
    Blessings with it.

I am not familiar with Tales of The Otori, so i can't comment on that, but you did really well in describing the overall story.

Very good, and thanks for entering.
