Winds of Forever

A world is born. Fresh and new, thunder rolls over the bare mountains, and rain drops lash the earth for the first time. Deep within a cave the flickering glow of lightning illuminate the innocent faces of the inhabitants of this world. They stare outside as the remaining birth pains fade away, replaced by dusty sunlight caressing the newly whetted earth. Carefully they step outside, blinking in the sunlight. Their unsure gazes travel over their new found home. From the rolling hills to the deep valley below them, the deep green of majestic grass fields dotted by deep woods shine invitingly with a peaceful wet sheen.  1

This is Creation, the first of many. 2

Slowly they make their way down form the mouth of the cave where they were hiding, their minds in chaos as they try to make sense of the beauty around them. As one they move gracefully towards the many artifacts left over from the creation, a stone pillar engraved with arcane symbols. A young boy steps closer, and traces one of the strange symbol with his finger, feeling the rough edges. His mind places a name to it, and his voice rings out to give sound. 3

This is Knowledge, it was, is, and always will be. 4

With hurried steps they enter the deep forest, flickering lights encircle them. At first they stare at it in wonder, and soon some of the younglings dance in time with the harmonious sounds of the wind. Their laughter rises up to join the music, and the silence of this world is broken by the joy of the innocent. Those older in their years feel the calling of the younger ones, and they soon join the dance. 5

This is Play, for all ages, created to enjoy. 6

Some keep walking deeper into the forest, they feel the wet underbrush caress their legs, and the thrumming of the earth is in time with their own heartbeats. Never can they forget where they came from, or what they are. They are the Children of Nature, equal to the trees and the stars. Deep within their hearts they feel the tranquility that settles on all things in balance, and they are truly at home. 7

This is Peace and Harmony, it lives in all of us. 8

An animal crosses their path as they wander ever deeper, exploring their new home. The animal blinks at them unafraid, and they stare at it in silent wonder. No thought of harming it crosses their mind. Death is unknown to them, and all things are equal. Silently they step aside and let the animal pass, watching it as it disappears into the murky shadows of the trees. 9

This is Respect, all life deserves it. 10

A tree hangs heavy with fruit, and the first to notice his hunger steps up to it and touches it invitingly. With a smile on his face, he thanks the tree for its gift, and picks the fruit. The juice runs as all those around him join in the feast, and the tree feels no remorse, this is its purpose, to give and receive. 11

This is Thankfulness, a gift in itself. 12

They come upon a clearing, and see for the first time people they do not know. Four sit around a circle, two men, two women.  The one man stands up and walks over to one of the children, in his hands a strange instrument. With a smile he bends down and gives the drum to the child, who immediately takes it and returns a smile. The man straightens up and returns back to his circle. Nodding to the others they come closer to the children, and soon everyone is dancing to the music they make. 13

This is Friendship, as priceless as life. 14

And all around them the winds gently blows, the trees sigh peacefully in the breeze and the animals live without fear. Deep in the darkness smaller creatures make their home as creation intended, and the children as well as the four creators dance happily, surrounded by their own origins. 15

This is Nature, neither a beginning nor an end. 16

As the sounds of the music rose up, a gentle rain lashes down, wetting the people. But it is neither cold nor uncomfortable, such things do not exist here. Deep into the first night they dance, friendship mixes with respect, thankfulness to nature is deep in their core, some stare at the sky seeking more to know, the children play around with those they feel more comfortable with, and so it is born. 17

This is Love, the core of our existence. 18

After the first night, the four strangers quietly take their things and return where they came from. From nothingness,  a world created.  19

This is Life, let it be true. 20

And the Winds of Forever blow.21

Author notes

Part 2 of 2 (1st piece is called Eyes of Heaven). This forms part of the intro to a story I'm working on called "Nine". Although part of a bigger piece it stands pretty well on its own. Based on a poem by Lacyte called Nine Maidens . Enjoy!
