The Life That was

"I'll tell you when I've had enough!" the slightly drunken man grumbled jerking the bitter vodka to his lips once again. His whole life he had been drinking like this. Well ever since he discovered drinking in it self. I was his escape from reality and all it's pitfalls and perils.1

He had once tried to end his drinking, and change his sour disposition on life. But his attempt had been in vane, for once he got back to reality the pain returned. He was not the kind of man to confront any demons he may be wrestling with. Any trouble and his best friend was that old shot glass in his cupboard.2

His life at one time had been amazing. All his discomfort was distorted, by his glorious, well, everything. No troubles could take him down. he had been invincible. Until the one time he let his guard down. It was only for a short time. But that was all it took and it was over. all of it gone, just like that. Then his suffering began.3

A man of few words he went through his life not disturbing others. he avoided most people, especially the wealthy, on the off chance they may remember his name. His once glorious name. It had been printed across the nation on billboards. His flourishing business known only by his name.4

At night in his drunken slumber he dreamt of his past. The great life he had been leading. How could have been such a fool to lose it all? But he dare not dwell in his waking hours.5

The drinking ended with a lumbering stroll home. Often including several stumbles and falls. When he arrived home he waddled through his trashed and littered house. finding his bed room he would open the door and find he disaster of a room. For a moment he would remember the greatness his life had been. Then the drunkenness would continue and he would fall into bed and drift to sleep. Once again to dream of the life that was.6
