Don't Answer The Door - Ch. 16

"Eva, Eva please answer me, where are you?" Alex asked.2

Alex began to feel hot tears burn his eyes, as he began to hurt inside. He couldn't stand hearing Eva cry, it cause him to feel the pain that she's feeling. He understood how Eva felt. He also never got to know his real father, he too had a relative kill someone who meant the world to him.3

Alex remembered back to when his father was taken away to prison. He was framed the entire time, and Alex couldn't do anything about it until it was too late. His name was cleared of all the rotten things said, but it was costly. It was his life he payed to clear his name. 4

He remembered how the police officers told him his father was found murdered in his cell. There was confusion as to how he was brutally murdered when he was in the cell with the most security, the cell where he was alone in the back of the prison. They couldn't find who did it, but Alex knew. He knew from the beginning. It was his damned uncle, the one who was always jealous of everything his father ever had. He lived with them, and murdered his mom and sister then disappeared. He framed his father, and killed him. He left Alex alone in the world. 5

Alex finally felt justice was served when they caught Cage, his uncle. He finally felt free and safe, until Cage escaped, and what does he do? He kills his best friend Josh. Alex was guessing that is a threat to what is coming next. He was correct, because he went along to killing Carter. 6

"God..." Alex said, as he thought back to his life.7

"Eva!!" Alex screamed, trying to find her.8

"Please, Where are you Eva?!" He screamed, as he entered the bedroom.9

Alex frantically searched the bedroom, searched for Eva. He felt a chill enter through the broken window. Alex heard Eva crying softly. When he turned around, he saw her sitting in the corner, he saw her alone and she looked so frail. He came closer, wanting to wrap her in his arms, but he stopped walking suddenly.10

"Oh, Eva! Why?! Why did you do it?!" Alex screamed, as he saw all the blood.11

Alex saw a piece of the broken window, a little shard of glass laying in a small pool of blood. Eva's hand was in the blood, as the river of red flowed out of her wrist.12

"Eva!" Alex ran up to her, shaking her by the shoulders. 13

Eva had her eyes closed, but tears still streamed down her pale face. 14

"Look at me damn it, don't do this Eva!" Alex ran out of the room.15

Alex rushed down the flight of stairs, running into the kitchen. He quickly checked all of the cupboards and drawers to find some sort of bandage to wrap around Eva's wrist, but he couldn't find anything. He ran back up the stairs and into the bathroom. Alex found the bandages that he was looking for, but he didn't automatically leave the bathroom. The shower was still on, no one turned it off.16

Alex walked quickly to the bathtub and turned the water off. He turned around but stopped dead in his place. Something caught his eye. When he turned around to look back in the tub, he clasped his hand over his mouth as he gagged. Alex saw a lot of red against the marble of the tub. Why hadn't it washed off with the water against it? He realized it was Eva's blood. Tears ran down his face as he realized how hurt she must have been when her father raped her. No, not her father, he wasn't her father at all. He was just Matt. 17

Remembering Eva, Alex ran back out of the bathroom and back into the bedroom. 18

"Eva, here baby, please open your eyes!" He said, but stopped.19

When Alex looked at the corner that Eva was sitting in earlier, he realized she wasn't there. The shard of glass was missing too. He only saw the pool of blood, Eva's blood that she let drip out of her wrist. 20

Alex panicked again. He didn't know where to look for her. He began to scream out Eva's name but didn't hear any reply. He turned around to run out of the bedroom when he saw the window. Of course it was still broken, no chance to fix it, but that's not what made Alex pause. His heart dropped to the floor and the blood ran out of his face and hands. Alex felt so cold as a thought he feared most came to his head. 21

"Eva?" He choked out, in a quiet whisper.22

Alex slowly walked towards the window as he began to feel his hands and legs go numb. He reached the window and placed his hands on the window sill. When he pressed down he screamed in pain. Alex looked at his hands and realized they were bleeding. He had pressed down on broken glass that was still attached. Alex decided to forget about it, there was more important stuff to deal with. He took a deep breath and looked out of the window, down to the ground.23

He didn't see anything, and that made him jump with joy. All that was visible is the sun setting, and that's what Alex was so happy to see, for the first time in his life. Eva hadn't jumped out of the window. The blood returned to Alex's numb hands, and he felt his heart beating again. This still wasn't over he realized. Where did she go? That was the only thought in Alex's head. 24

He took the bandages and held them tightly in his hand. He looked back at the blood on the ground, and wiped away the last of the tears on his face. Alex turned off the light and ran down the stairs again. He didn't see her downstairs in the living room and fear began to grow again. He saw the front door was wide open, and Alex felt a cold chill caress his face. 25

Alex realized he had left Matt in the car. He was a big man, and he could have gotten out of the ropes that tied him down. Alex walked slowly to the front door and hesitantly looked at his black car.26

He didn't find anything out of the ordinary wrong with it, except one thing that was too ordinary that it made him freeze in horror. Alex noticed the back door of his black car was wide open. He let out a loud gasp as he dropped the bandages and ran out of the door, to his car.27
