A Summary of Metafiction

Imagine yourself as a fictional character, one of many in a pocket universe brought to life by the imagination of a greater being - a universe in which time loops on itself, playing out the events of the story over, over, and over again. There is no Before, or After, only what is Written. 1

Aaron Trace can't ... but who is he to argue against Roflarion - a mysterious girl who possesses a 'Book' which flips through time and space, and a 'Quill' which rewrites reality at will. A girl who calls herself an 'Author'.2

Under ordinary circumstances, this wouldn't be bad news. After all, in his reality, or so the story goes, he ultimately triumphs.3

Except that in this case, his story is not being allowed to unfold. Aaron's universe has been slated for destruction, and another Author has stepped in to ensure the triumph of the Antagonist, thus breaking the Story-Cycle and causing Aaron's reality to collapse on itself. 4

Oh, the horror! Or should Aaron be decrying the absurdity of it all?5

It couldn't be true, could it? But Aaron's resolve is shaken as his once mundane life is turned on its head. The enemy reads his moves before he makes them, and his allies are mercilessly picked off one after another. Yet, through it all, somehow, somehow, he survives; because, in the words of Roflarion: the story needs him to - his reality fights against its end.6

Set on a futuristic version of Earth where the deadliest weapon is the human mind, join Aaron as he begins to embrace his role as the Protagonist, and learns to utilise the power which such knowledge brings - the phenomenon known as the Deus Ex Machina. 7

For he will be needing all the contrivances at his disposal to emerge unscathed from this chess match between Gods, a battle which holds the existence of all he has ever known at stake. 8
