The words in the letter

Alicia was sitting on the couch watching television when her mother came in from outside and handed her a letter.1

'Who is this from?', asked Alicia's mom in a harsh tone.2

'Oh! It's that girl Malanie who used to go to school with me before she moved to Ireland.', Alicia replied.3

'Oh...', Said Alicia's mom as she turned around and walked away in the opposite direction.4

Alicia went to her bedroom and locked the door. She knew who the letter was really from, It wasn't from Sarah, But from her boyfriend Brandon that she had been seeing for two months. Normally, Alicia would make sure to check the mail, but on weekends her mother would check it and she would have to pray she didn't find out. Her mother had no clue that they were seeing each other. They saw each other at school, but that's about the only time, Because Alicia's mother would not allow her to date. If her mom knew that she had a boyfriend, she would never trust her again.5

Alicia plopped Indian style on her bed as she opened the letter, which was decorated with red hearts. It read:6

Alicia,7

I know I have written you so many times this week, But I just can't stop thinking about you. I wanted to write you and let you know just how special you are to me, and how much you mean to me. I would do anything in the world for you. I know one day, We will be out on our own and we will be able to tell everyone that we are going to be together forever, even if they don't like it. Nothing in the world will matter except me and you. Right now we have parents stopping us from doing the things we want to do, But I promise it wont last long.8

Alicia smiled and  folded the letter back up and placed it back in the envelope. She walked over to her lock box and unlocked it. She placed the letter inside, then locked it back up, putting the tiny key into her pocket. She kept the key on her at all times to make sure no one could get inside the box. She took out some paper, markers, and a pen. She sat down Indian style on her bed, and started doodling on the letter to Brandon.11

'What are you doing?', Yelled her mother from the kitchen.12

'Writing down some study tips for my Algebra quiz I have on Monday!', Alicia yelled back.13

Alicia picked up her blue marker and started writing 'I Love You!' all around the edge of the letter. To complete it, she picked up her red lipstick and applied it to her lips, then placed her lips on the top of the letter, leaving a kiss. She began to write:14

It's so funny how we have been writing all this time, and my mother still doesn't know that were together. She believes everything I say. It's pathetic. I miss you SO much! I wish you were here with me right now! You make my life so much happier. I cannot stand being at my house, all my mom does is clean, and complain. Sometimes I wish I had a father around. And, As you know, all Seth does is annoy me. You make my life complete. I don't know where I am going to get a stamp from to send this letter, But I am going to get it out today, That's a promise. I can't wait to see you at school on Monday. My mom asked me what I was doing a couple of minutes ago, And I told her I was studying tips for my Algebra quiz! ha ha! Isn't that funny? Well anyways baby, I have to go! I hope you like my decorations, I will see you at school!16

Alicia folded up the letter and placed it into a blank envelope, then she addressed it. She put the letter underneath her pillow and peeked her head out into the hallway to see if her mom was still in the kitchen, and she was. She tip-toed to her mother's bedroom and noticed that the door was slightly open, so she pushed open the door quietly, And tip-toed to her mother's purse that was on the end table near her bed. She put her hand inside to grab her wallet and opened it. She fumbled throughout her wallet to find stamps. She finally found them, and took two off the roll, and put them in her bra. Alicia placed the stamps back into the wallet where she found them, and placed her mom's purse back on the end table where it belonged. She turned around and started walking out of the room. Her mother ran into her at the doorway of the bedroom.19

'What are you doing in here?', Shouted her mother.20

'Well, I-I-I was looking for my backpack, Did I leave it in here?', Alicia asked.21

'No you didn't, Now get out of my room!', Yelled her mother.22

Alicia walked back to her bedroom relieved. She pulled out the envelope underneath her pillow and placed a stamp on the upper right hand corner. She slid her extra stamp into her lock box without having to open it. She walked outside and placed Brandon's letter into the mailbox. Alicia walked back into the house and started running bath water in her bathroom. She was going to take a bubble bath. Once she was done, she put on her pajamas and brushed her hair. She stayed in her room the whole day until bedtime. She ended up falling asleep around 9:30 P.M. 23

The next morning, Alicia was awoken by her alarm clock. It displayed 6:25 A.M. She threw some clothes on and put her hair up. She said goodbye to her mom, as she ran out the door, just making it to the bus stop in time. When she arrived at school, Brandon was waiting for her at her locker. He approached her with a big hug.24

'Did you get my letter?', Brandon said.25

'Yes I did, and I wrote you back! I sent it out in the mail yesterday!', Alicia replied.26

'Okay, good!', Said Brandon.27

The first bell rang to go to class, as they kissed on the lips and said goodbye, they both went to their first period classrooms. When first period was over, they went to second, third, fourth, and then lunch. Normally, Brandon would wait for her outside of her fourth period class to go to lunch with her, but this time he wasn't there. Alicia thought that maybe he would be waiting for her at the lunch table, but when she walked into the lunch room, he was not there.28

Alicia started to worry, Brandon had never missed a day of school. Fifth and sixth period came around, Alicia could not concentrate on any school work, she was too worried about Brandon.29

Where could he be? She thought to herself.30

When the last bell rang for school to be out, Alicia ran to Brandon's bus to see if he was on it.31

'Excuse me! Is Brandon on this bus?', Alicia asked the driver.32

'Yes, but I haven't seen him.', Said the bus driver.33

Alicia walked to her bus and sat in her seat, she was in tears. She was so worried about Brandon. When she got home after what seemed like an hour bus ride, she went into the house.34

As she walked in the house, her first question was if she had any mail, her mother told her she did and that she had placed it on her bed for her. Alicia quickly ran to her room and locked her bedroom door behind her. The letter was addressed from her pretend friend in Ireland, she knew it was Brandon. She opened it quickly, realizing that this letter had no decoration on it. She began to read it:35

My beautiful princess,36

I know you're probably wondering why I left early from school today. I've had it planned for a week now. There is something I need to tell you. I have been thinking about it ever since we began to date. We love each other so much, right? Well, I was thinking, and I know this seems out of the ordinary, But I want to runaway with you, and finally be together on our own. I stole some money from my dad, and I have my own car, we can stay in the car temporarily until I can find a job and move us into somewhere nice. I know this is a hard decision, and I know you would need time to think about it, But you don't have time, I need to know now. Please meet me at the pizza place on the corner of Mc Mullen Booth and Roosevelt. I will be waiting for you. I Love You!37

Alicia shoved her letter into her lock box and got dressed. She already knew what she wanted to do. She wanted to live with Brandon and be with him, no matter what it took. She packed her clothes into a backpack and went out her window quietly. She ran as fast as she could until she got tired. The pizza place was only about fifteen minutes from her place. She walked to the pizza place, and saw Brandon standing next to his car, waiting for her. She ran up to him and jumped on him. They wrapped their arms around each other and kissed. They jumped into the car, and drove off.40

Two months later in Miami, Florida. Alicia is homeless, and left with nothing. She is living in a car, and has not been able to reach her mom for about a month now...41
