In the time before the dawn of civilization a war began, a war between two clans spanning generations.
As in all conflicts, both sides blame the other for the war.
The struggle began in the hills upon which an empire was founded. In the two and a half thousand years of the great metropolitan’s history, this battle, this war, has been waged in secrecy right under mankind’s nose, but now it was spilling out into the open and nothing less than the future of civilization, as we know it, is at stake. 3
I am the teller of this tale. Call me Darius. I pen this tale so if something were to happen to me, those who follow can carry on the history of this conflict.
It started in the time of the two brothers who pitted their prowess against each other and, thus from this struggle, one of the greatest empires in man’s history emerged called Rome. 4
They have battled down through the ages, neither side giving or asking quarter. The Darkling’s against the Bright’s. They spawned from the two brothers and cared for little else except the complete annihilation of each other. 5
Let me first, before I go any further, tell you about myself. I am first among my kind.
I was born in the mists around the shining lakes and dark pine forests of Finland. I am the world’s oldest and first maker of magic. I am a Wizard.

Our sect has been the keepers of history. We each have those we watch and keep record of. Mine are the participants of this conflict. At times I have had to take a hand in it but, for the most part, I have let it play out on its own accord. 7
We, the keepers, have always been here recording the ebb and flow of life.
We are the compilers of this world’s true history. In the land of Symrind, kept in the towers of Belfureo, are the records of all we have seen and recorded, and a vast amount it is indeed.
But it is here you will find, among all the pages of history, the beginning of this conflict and eventually the end.
The beginning we will, at some point, get to, but it is this moment in time, right now, that is our story. For you cannot change yesterday; you can only make the most of today, and look with hope toward tomorrow.
And so we move toward tomorrow with hope, for the chosen one is about to come into his heritage. 8
