The brook was flowing with great anger as if the sky had betrayed it. It almost seemed as if the sea were reaching up to it. Then only to fall back into the tide. Not soon after it stopped two on lookers had began approaching. They walked cautiously as to make sure the sea didn't flare up again and whisk them away. Her name was Katie. And his Joshua. By today's standards they've been long gone for years. taken away by a gust of wind on a mountains peak. Some say they jumped in a fit of love and desperation. Others stick to the basics of them merely falling. 1
Joshua and Katie believed in true love and love at first sight, all the basic teenager in love sort of things. They were always talking about true destiny and how theirs contained the other. They weren't really boyfriend and girlfriend but instead best friends. Where ever one went the other was soon to follow. If Josh was invited with his buddies not ten minutes later Katie would arrive. Or if Katie went shopping with her friends he would appear to her surprise lunging out from behind a clothing rack. Their friends may not have enjoyed it but they did regardless. 2
On several occasions their friends would pipe up and say “ Did you invite them because we sure didn't” or “I thought this was our night out” . No one expected that those times would be the only ones they'd have to cherish. 3
Every day they would meet by a large oak tree. There it had rested weathered and worn for years on end. It always seemed to sway only when they weren't their. When ever they met under it, it would be still. As if listening to ever word they said so that it may always stay updated on the world it would never see in its lifetime. They had met under the tree ever since they were in pre school. Katie's mom was an alcoholic and his had split up so they were relatively on their own. Neither told each other about it but they both knew . Ever since around 5th grade they'd spent nearly all their time together. They would make sure they were in the same classes, weather they would fight with kids to be switched out or complained to the principle until they caved with sympathy. Everyone knew of their horrible life, but as long as they had each other they would always make it threw with a smile on their faces, together. 4
At their school no one ever made a move toward a friendship to them. They were alone aside from the kids they had accidental met. One of Katie's friends was name was Gunther, he was a foreign exchange student that came from Germany. He spoke perfect English although he was never taught. She never understood how he had learned such impeccable English in such a short time, no one knew for sure. One of Joshua's friends was a little boy he called Kip. Kip was homeless and stayed with Joshua. His aunt never even noticed some little stranger kid wandering around her house. Kip never attended a day of school in his life. He'd been asked if he wanted to start but he always said no, so no one made him. Kip was another mystery. He knew enough to be in high school at age eleven. Katie and Josh never asked how he knew so much. Because of his intelligence no one asked about him, so no one knew.5
It was Kip's first day of school. They'd insisted on him enrolling and so he finally gave in. They gave him fake addresses and phone numbers. They knew the school would never need to call or go to the address so they had little to no worries. Parent visiting night would come and go without questions. Teachers would send report cards and Kip would pick them up every time at the post office. Teachers called him a delight to have had as a student, so no worries about them ever calling the faulty number. 6
Then an unexpected problem arose.7
Their was this night they called ''Bring your parent to school day''. None of them had thought they still did that. Who would guess in 7th grade a bring in your parent day. So when no one came questions arose. Peoples stares were everywhere. Teacher asked why his mother or father hadn't come and the only answer Kip could come up with in such short notice was a weak mutter " Their busy. You know, working.". Little to say they didn't buy it. They sent him to the office and by the time he got their he could hear the principle on the phone saying ''...alright. I understand. Sorry to have bothered you Mrs. Freedman. It wont happen again." She then stiffly turned to look at him. She looked down on him with disgust in her eyes. She said in a stern aggravated voice "Do you know who I just had a little chat with?" Her expression was screaming don't mess with me. All he could muster was a whisper. "no" . "That was the number you submitted to the school. An old widowed woman lives alone their. I just got off the phone apologising for you." She turned around and grabbed a small bundle of papers that the secretary and clearly placed their earlier and turned around. Her face was a bright blood red. Se gutted the papers into Kip's gut and said " I've gathered your papers and called the police. They'll be here shortly to take you away." 8
Kip was nearly at tears. He knew his fate would be shortly coming. A foster home. A new family. A family. Strangers. Words began pouring, "Why don't you give whats due to those who deserve it?" Even Kip was surprised he said it. She stopped in her march to her office across the room. She turned softly as if to signal he'd pushed her too far. She walked back into his face and opened her mouth as if to say something. Her burning breath stung Kips eyes. It was like a wall of fire in the air conditioned room. When the secretary piped up "Hes right and you know it. You've abused all of us here with your temper. Hes only seen you once and he has enough courage to admit it. I quit!" Then she suddenly grabbed her jacket, then like mimes the rest in the small office grabbed their jackets and stormed out with their chins in the air. This only enraged her more. Kip ran out. 9
He ran to the oke tree and waited for the others to come.10
