Mirrors

At night, ignoring the song is hardest. It's a hollow tune, you know. It's hollow and breaks in parts, letting an eerie silence take over for a moment, until it rises up again. 1

It begins after the sun sets, when the only people awake are the ones who never sleep. 2

They hear it too, even when you tell yourself you're alone.3

They sing it, too, even when you cover your mouth and cry out inside that you aren't the one, you aren't the one!4

When the sun rises, it takes maybe an hour for all hints of the lingering song to dimish. Maybe an hour for everything to turn back to how we were before ~ to who we were before.5

And as much as you want to desire, you can never turn your back on the hate, on the deceit. It lives in you, dances in your heart and soul, so much so that if anyone were to turn their gaze into your eyes, they would shatter like every mirror you threatened to break before.6

Every mirror.7

Author notes

Again, it started off as a horror/dark write, but somehow turned into a sort of angsty thing. Gah. I miss writing dark things so much... ;_;
