You know that I haven't really thought of why I live, only that I do, but thinking on it, I would have to give these reasons:1
10. To see tomorrow.2
I want to see what tomorrow will bring. Having a new day means that anything and everything can happen. From movie stars dying (rest in peace, Heath Ledger) to the closing of the Olympics (if you didn't see it, it was frickin spectacular!)3
That would be my tenth reason for living.4
9. To feel the sun on my skin.5
I think that there is nothing more filling than having the sun hit you on a cold day. Every month that we have winter in Wisconsin, we pray to our gods (some of us are pagan and some are not) to have the sun come back and warm our bodies and hearts. On a spring day when the earth is thawing and the sun hits you, there is no feeling like the sun permeating throughout your body.6
8. To feel the thunderstorms7
When I was a kid, the one thing that used to scare me was thunderstorms, however, I remember that my Uncle Ned took me out in the middle of the worst thunderstorm that I can remember and sat out there with me in it. I remember that storm in all its fury and even though the wind and the rain pelted against me, I felt the first peace that I ever had in the longest time and I relished letting go of my youthful wrath at the world in the middle of those fierce storms. Now, when I see the forecast call for those thunderstorms, I wait for the telling sound of a crackle from the thunder and I run out to embrace it like a lover.8
7. To achieve status in my life9
When I grew up, my father went from job to job and it wasn’t that grand. Growing up, I realized that I had a lot to offer the world in terms of perspective and intelligence. I’m currently trying to get a degree as an Administrative Assistant in the technical college of my city so that I can get better paid and not have to worry about the money problem that seems to plague everyone these days.10
6. To watch the new episodes of my favorite shows11
I love watching the Stargate Atlantis series and Heroes, which is a really cool series, like bringing to life a comic book superhero story. I can’t tell you how many times I feel joy in watching the episodes and the longing that I feel when the episode ends and they give a teaser for the next one… it leaves me on the edge of my seat sometimes.12
5. To play the new video games that I really enjoy13
I love playing the games of Titan Quest and Assassin’s Creed, because it helps me enjoy a great masterpiece from my fellow geeks. Every game gets better and better every year and I find myself astonished as to what the human creativity can achieve with our hearts and minds. It makes me feel connected to my fellow man.14
4. To see the full moon low on the horizon15
Recently, I saw the full moon low on the horizon and it was a harvest moon. For those who don’t know what a harvest moon is, the color is orange and it signifies a good harvest for the farmers. I love the way that the moon makes my skin tingle and the way that it hangs in the clouds partially shrouded by it. It’s a scene straight out of a horror or a good romance novel and it looks magnificent.16
3. To live for my dead family members17
During the course of my life, I’ve lost my Aunt Kathy, my Uncle David, and most recently my grandfather Dave, the father of both my Aunt and my Uncle. I miss them terribly, but I know that they would want me to succeed in my life and truly experience it like they did. They want me to leave my impression on the world and for the world to show me its wonders like it did to them. That’s one of the reasons why I live.18
2. To write19
Every time that I come up with an idea, I write it down and then make a story around it. I count my blessing for the lives that I’ve touched with my work and I hope that one day I will be able to make a true masterpiece that will touch the lives and change them for the better. The world gone really crappy and I hope that my writing will bring life and spirit back into the world that’s gone down the gutter.20
And last, but most certainty not least….21
To love22
There are days where I wouldn’t go on without the love that I feel from my friends and my loves in my life. The feeling that you get when you hold them close is indescribable, but you know that you’d rather stay in their arms for just a bit longer so that you know that you are wanted, cared for, and cherished. I think that everyone would want this feeling as well. It’s only human nature.23
Anyway, that’s the reason why I live… what’s yours?24
Sincerely,25

I love thunderstorms too. Lightning is enthralling! Your reasons are somewhat serious, somewhat funny, and very much you. Thanks for sharing; I loved them all!
My one critique would be, in your final reason, you switch from "I" to "you": "The feeling that you get when you hold them close is indescribable, but you know that you’d rather stay in their arms for just a bit longer so that you know that you are wanted, cared for, and cherished." Of all sentences in your work, I think this one deserves to be from your perspective, not mine. It's also one of my pet peeves, how people don't own their feelings or reactions, but put it out there for everyone, as if it's not actually related to them at all.
Great list; I like your story about the thunderstorm and about enjoying new geeky games!

Oh this was extremely spectacular! I agreed with so many of the things you wrote. Like you, when I was a kid, thunderstorms terrified me. But now that I'm older, I don't mind them too much. In fact, sometimes I will sit by the window and watch the lightning shoot across the sky. But to live so as to love is by far number one on my list as well - to love my family, friends, hopefully one day someone I will marry, and most importantly, God. Thanks for reminding us that there is so much to live for. A round of applause for you. Take a bow!

Thank you for that.
It was quite good.
I really enjoyed it!
Thanks again for your entry.

Bravo. Bravo. Oh, yes, the list of reasons to live. I enjoyed reading this because some of it applies to me...except for the thunderstorm bit. I don't think I'd go out. I get sick too easily. Well done, Ben. I think you hit this contest right where it needed to be hit. Well done.
