Destiny: Chapter 2

1

Arissa was silent as she moved through the house. It seemed like the whole world had fallen silent, slowed down and was listning in on what was about to come. Oriel sat at the table, eyes folling Arissa's movements. Arissa was tall and slender. Her warm brown eyes scanning the bookshelf for something. Her long fingers dragging along the bindings and then stopped. The binding on the book read Destiny's Beginning . She gently lifted the book from its place and sat down across from Oriel at the table. Arissa, taking her time, blew the dust from the book and opened it. Slowly turning the stiff pages, Arissa scanned her eyes back and forth across the pages. Suddenly she stopped and she began to read:2

"All throughout time the Children of Maige were an elite magic core of the King's forces. They forced the evil Lord Nartacuss back to his down-world realm and protected the kingdom from further darkness. In a shack on the edge of the villiage, a child shall be born. The new leader of the Children of Maige. At the age of change, her powers will start to show and spread through her body. But at any time, her powers could be drained and given to someone else."4

Arissa closed the book and set it on the counter. She let a sigh and looked over to Oriel. Oriel had just sat there, trying very hard to comprehend what was just said. It was short, but a lot to digest. Oriel stood up, her curly black hair bobbing as she did so. Brown eyes looked over at Arissa, searching for the answer to her burning question. Was this true? It all didn't seem possible. Her, Oriel, leader of the infamous Children of Maige. The kings greates power. Oriel needed time to think. She gathered her light cloak and headed outside. In the middle of the yard, next to the barn was a large oak tree. It had been there for as long as she could remember. With grace, she grabbed onto the first branch and swung herself up into the branches. Like a cat, she moved and climbed her way to the top. Blue sky streched far out to the edge of the kingdom. Beyond that lay dark, infamous mountains full of the dark power of Lord Nartacuss. Oriel heard the door shut quietly and a shuffling of feet. Arissa walked calmly over to the bottom of the tree and looked up, craining her neck as far back as possible.6

"Oriel. This is your destiny. I couldnt tell you before. I swore not to until the time of change. You understand dont you?" Arissa, see no answer comming from the girl, turned and went back into the house.7
