Chapter 1 - Northridge in May

He never liked that nanny anyway, so it was a good thing she was quitting .This house no matter how huge could not contain the young lad.He was spoiled and mean to everyone.Nanny after nanny came and went.None of them would work with the 12yr. old. 'How could something so horrible, come from someone so sweet?' they would say.Davis's Mother was loved by all.Though she was very rich, she was very humble. In a town like Northridge, word got round and gossip filled the air, but Mrs. Eian was never spoken harshly of. Mrs. Eian had raised Davis with the silver spoon in his mouth and a satin diaper to boot. Many many men wanted Mrs. Eian's attention but she was never interested.Mrs. Eian had only loved one man in her life though she never spoke of him.He had been Davis's father. He had died in the colonial wars in 1902.1

Northridge was famous town you know.It was the center of the widespread pirate massacre.Of course Northridge being a coastal town was bound to see a few pirates and the pirates were greeted with anger and hostility by the nobles.Davis had spent his entire life here, and found his large home to be warm and inviting.Though he hated the town because of the slums. He often enjoyed walking the streets with his escort 'RoRo' Tom, and kicking helpless beggars.2

April had come and gone and it was slightly warmer across Northridge. The Docks were once again open and this blacksmiths were once again hammering away in street shops. Flowers were blooming and the city felt alive.Mrs. Eian slowly awoke Davis as he slept in his bedroom, just down the hall from hers.3

'Wake up dear, shall we have a morning stroll before Cindy makes breakfast?' she spoke softly.4

'Can we buy some new swords, I want to add them to my collection?' Davis said innocently.5

'we will see, prepare for our departure by 8:30, any later and you will be left my young child.'6

'yes mother.' Davis replied.7

And so Davis, Mrs. Eian, and 'RoRo' Tom started their walk down the hill into the town. The Eian family lived on Catter Hill which was overlooking the entire town of Northridge.Mrs. Eian had been born into a very wealthy family.Jonas Eian the third had owned the docks which had been bought by the government as a naval Dock, so naturally he had been paid a large sum.But tragically he died of pneumonia and the money and mansion was passed to Lillian; his only daughter.Lillian in turn met a man and had Davis. And now Davis and Mrs. Lillian Eian reside on Catter hill.8

While Mrs. Eian shopped around, Davis spent his time nicking small daggers from a blacksmith who had noticed, but hadn't said anything. While the whole town had hated Davis, they loved Lillian and knew Davis would lie to cover his own butt.Even though Mrs. Davis was a young and a very beautiful brunette mother, she had enemies. There were many people who though the docks should belong to the town. Most of which were pirates who were often caught unloading stolen goods. Those pirates were willing to do anything for the docks.9

After Mrs. Eian had finished browsing she gathered up 'RoRo' and Davis and headed back home.Cindy had prepared an excellent breakfast of Grits, Pancakes, and sausages.Mrs. Eian was very different then most nobles. She had her whole staff, cooks, gardeners, nannies, and Butlers, all sit down and have meals.'We have such a large table and very little family to fill it.' she had always said. But she considered these people who served her day and night her family and treated them as just that; family. 10

'Tom could you please pass the sausage?' Cindy said softly while batting her eyes at Tom.Cindy unlike the others was very young and pretty. She wore maids clothes but she mostly cooked, and everyone knew she had a crush on RoRo.She had always called him Tom and stared at him very dreamily.RoRo was a large man, who was a former soldier.Very tall and well built with a black goatee and a ponytail.Tall, dark, and handsome, she had once told Mrs. Eian. Of course Tom passed the sausages as they ate chattily.Small conversations kept breakfast interesting.Mrs. Eian looked across the table seeing everyone smiling and happy and noticed David the gardener. He wasn't eating but taking his fork and poking his sausages softly. He had a look of stress and concern on his face.Mrs. Eian however just thought it merely an upset stomach or something simple and let it go.11

After breakfast Mrs. Eian did her usual business with Dock managers and Trade Captains while Davis did his studies with Martha Artridge.Martha was a kind old retired school teacher, and even though she was kind and a very good teacher, Davis found ways of driving her nuts. After his studies, Davis went down to the docks to play and maybe cause some damage. He scurried along the vast docks and noticed a large ship coming in.The flag on the ships crows nest was very odd.He had never seen one like it before. It appeared to be a white Scithe on top of a black background. Very odd indeed. He just shook it off and went about his thieving from traders.Soon nightfall came and Davis headed home.He ate a little chicken Cindy had made him since he had missed dinner and went straight to bed.12

It was a very warm night and the smell of salt lingered throughout the  town. The warm air blew into Davis's open balcony as he slept somberly. But soon Davis awoke very startled.A large Crack had rung out but he wasn't sure if it was dream or for real but soon he heard footsteps run past his door and down the hall.He could hear David the Gardner sobbing and saying 'I'm sorry misses I'm sorry misses' but soon Davis heard the worst thing that had ever struck his ears. His mothers cry of pain.13

Whoa, now I understand the poem a little better, and my goodness, where did you learn to write? Could you give me some lessons? Wow, I'd definitely buy this if it was a book. I love it! I love the way you made Lillian Eian talk, "Wake up, dear, shall we have a morning stroll before Cindy makes breakfast?" I could picture her standing over the bed, polite and proper, and pretty I'm sure, by the way you've explained her, wow, I love it. Your writing has made such an impression on me. I can't stop! I hope you have the next chapter posted soon! I can't wait!
