Strange Day

Today must have been one of the most extraordinary days I’ve ever experienced. It all started this morning. I woke up, got dressed and went downstairs for breakfast like usual. Everything seemed in place, well so I thought. Grandma was making me pancakes in the kitchen, I could smell them. My grandma was quite a plump person; she didn’t care about what she ate and always fed me junk food. I didn’t mind though, it suited me just fine. I’ve put on a bit of weight since grandma moved in. I used to be quite skinny. Sometimes I wonder if she does it on purpose and is trying to make me fatter. I don’t care though, I like having her here, and she always makes my life a lot of fun.1

When I arrived at the kitchen I saw the strangest thing. The pancakes were cooking like I thought, but grandma was busy hopping about on one leg, throwing cutlery into the air. To be quite honest, I wasn’t that surprised. I mean, grandma can get a bit barmy at times. But still, she never does anything this peculiar. Our new knifes and forks were being chucked randomly onto the floor and I had not the slightest idea why.2

“Grandma! Grandma!” I cried. 3

I picked up the things she had dropped and placed them back in the drawer. 4

She stopped suddenly. 5

“Put a coat on, darling! The weather outside is awful!”6

At this remark, I was completely confused. Peering outside the window, I saw the sun shining down and making the whole of the back garden glow a beautiful gold. The weather was lovely, even better than usual. Something was wrong. 7

All of a sudden, I smelt something burning. The pancakes! Grandma didn’t seem to notice; she was too busy trying to turn on the television with a jar of pickles. I quickly pulled out the fire extinguisher and made sure everything was fine. Having no idea what to do with Grandma, I took hold of her hand and marched down the street to the nearest hospital. 8

“I’m not ill!” she shouted, making everybody in the street stop and look at us. 9

I scowled at her. She was making a big fool of herself.
