The Cement Wall- Chapter Nineteen

Chapter Nineteen 1

This seemed familiar to Roxanne, almost as if her past self had predicted such an event but never cared to warn her ahead of time. She would dwell on that later right now she had to deal with Connor and her rising anger.2

“I am here simply because I wish to make a truce with you, and to see how Eddie is doing. I don’t believe it’s a crime for me to be here.” He straightened out his hair and his shirt, only to be annoyed at the fact that Roxy grabbed his shirt again. She clutched the front of his shirt in her left hand and fisted her right hand ready to punch him in his annoyingly smirk looking face.3

“I don’t want you here, so get the hell out!” Roxanne nearly spat the words at him.4

Connor went to grab a hold of her shoulder but his hand happened to slip and land on her breast. Roxanne’s anger surged over the walls she put up to lock it in. She plowed her fist into his right cheek, then brought her knee up and drove it into his stomach. 5

Connor bent over gasping for air. Roxy leaned back and planted a nice round kick to the left side of his head. Lefay cheered from an arms length away from Connor.6

Eddie had slipped out of bed to see what was going on, he saw the fast round kick to the head that Roxanne delivered. And winced when he heard the loud crack that followed the blow. He knew he had to get them into the room before they drew anymore-unwanted attention. 7

He hooked his arm around Roxanne’s waist and pulled her back into the room. Lefay followed understanding immediately; Connor on the other hand just lay there motionless on the floor. Eddie took a small ounce of pity on the fool, at least temporarily; once he finds out what happened he decided he might just beat the idiot into the ground. 8

Grabbing Connor’s arm Eddie hoisted him up and dragged him into the room. He closed the door gently behind him, hoping to make the nurses who saw what happened believe they were at least at peace for now. He couldn’t help but smile at the fact that most of the nurses probably thought he dragged Connor’s sorry ass into the room to finish him off.9

Roxanne leaned against the wall near the window, while Lefay sat down on the cot that was set out for Roxy the night before. Connor looked dazed and completely lost, but he was at least moving. What Roxanne did fascinated him; he had always been attracted to the darker side that Roxanne harbored. But her nicer side was just as attractive; it was the intensity that grew in her when she embraced her darker side that made it so arousing.10

“Who would like to explain first?” Eddie asked as he looked around at the faces of the three other people.11

Of course Lefay had to be the first to get her word in “Connor decided to start something by coming here. That scum should be beaten even more to a bloody pulp then he already is.”12

It is extremely funny how immature a grown adult could be at times, Roxanne thought to herself. Suddenly she felt childish for letting her anger get the better of her. She decided it was time to be the mature adult in this situation.13

“I’m sorry I lost my temper.” She made sure her voice stayed calm, although she was not completely sure whom she was apologizing to. When no one said anything she added “It is surprising that no one has busted into this room to make sure we didn’t kill him, or to arrest me for assault.”14

That lightened the tension in the room immensely; Eddie had to cough to cover up his laughter. “Well I suppose no one really saw what happened, maybe that was because the next karate kid over here” Eddie pointed to Roxanne before continuing, “ happened to kick his ass so fast no one could grasp what had happened”15

Lefay smiled as Roxanne playfully shot Eddie a look. Connor finally stood on his own two feet; obviously his daze was over with. He stormed over to Roxanne and came close to punching her in the face. Instead he leaned forward and whispered in her ear, “I will get you back for this”16

Eddie didn’t like how close Connor was to Roxanne. The minute Connor whispered the threat to Roxanne Eddie had him by the back of the shirt and dragged him out of the hospital room and slammed the door in Connor’s face. He was lucky I didn’t kill him for threatening Roxanne, Eddie screamed in his head.17

Connor left the hospital without slowing down; when he hit the sidewalk after storming out of the front door of the hospital he took in a breath of fresh air to calm himself down. His car was only a few feet away, but it seemed like a mile. His head was pounding and his stomach felt like it was bleeding on the inside. Getting annoyed with himself, he shrugged off the pain and headed off.18

Roxanne and Lefay both were still angry due to Connor showing up at the hospital but they both managed to suppress the unwanted feeling. Eddie checked out of the hospital, he never told Roxanne why they let him out so early. He knew she would have flipped out if she found out that he refused to stay any longer and would not let them keep him there. Besides all he had to do was make sure the stitches stayed in for the next ten days and then get them removed and he would be fine. In his head he plotted out the days, “Today is Thursday, July 10th right?” Lefay nodded as they continued to walk towards to doors that would finally let them at least leave some of this horror behind.19

As the door closed behind them, Roxanne sighed in relief. The weight of all her worry seemed to evaporate, at least temporarily. “Eddie, since your staying over anyway. I can just drop you off at your house so you can get a few things ready meanwhile Lefay and I will go grocery shopping because we are low on food supplies anyway. Then I can come back and pick you up and bring you over. How does that sound?” Roxanne thought it over after she said it, it sounded reasonable enough.20

“Sure, I was thinking the same thing actually.” He replied. Lefay bit her lip and both Eddie and Roxanne gave her the spill what you have to say look. “Well Roxanne, you know how you owed me a favor for the…you know..” she paused for emphasis, “Well I met a guy the other day, and I invited him over to watch movies and to just you know. Hang out and get drunk and shit. So I kind of want the apartment.” Before Roxanne could reply she added, “you do owe me, big time”21

Roxanne did know she owed Lefay, she had saved her ass thousands of times, if not more. All she had in her was to nod her head in agreement. Eddie looked from Lefay to Roxanne trying to figure out the women mind, giving up he said, “Well then, I have a new plan. Roxanne we stop at your place and you drop Lefay off and get a few things. And we can both sleep at my apartment. And no its not a mess so don't worry about that.”22

She did not know what exactly to say, she stopped trying to lie to herself about loving Eddie. Clearly her emotion for him was back, but now she felt like a giddy schoolgirl, and that was something she was not going to allow. “Alright, that sounds reasonable”, was all she said before opening the driver’s side door and sliding into the seat. Lefay hopped into the passenger’s side and Eddie took the back behind Roxanne. 23
