Don't Answer The Door - Ch. 10

Eva sat down on the bed with Alex. 1

"Are you feeling better?" She asked, worried about Alex.2

"Yeah. Sorry about that. I don't know what came over me. It's just..." Alex's sentence faded as he stared at the sky through the window.3

Eva wrapped her arm around his neck. The expression on her face changed as she felt his neck.4

"Alex! You're burning up! Take your shirt off!" She yelled, worried because his body temperature is so high.5

"It's okay Eva, I don't want to take it off." Alex said, getting out of Eva's hold. 6

They argued about his health, and he stated he was okay. He stormed out of the bedroom because he grew angry that Eva wouldn't drop the subject. Eva just sat on the bed, staring at the open doorway. 7

"What the hell?!" Eva screamed behind Alex. 8

All she was trying to do is be caring, and she was just worried about him. She didn't understand why he didn't take his shirt off, why he had to make a big deal about it. She began to get up, wanting to leave,  when she thought she heard something outside. Eva got up and went to look out the window when she saw headlights that belong to a car. When she looked, they belonged to Alex's car! The black car was driving away on the sandy dirt road. Eva gasped, her mouth gaping open at what she saw.9

Alex was leaving her there! She couldn't believe it. She had no phone, no car, no way of getting out of this place. Eva was stranded, and tears began to come down. Her father was the only one who knew she was there, and Alex kicked him out. Eva crumbled to the floor and cried loudly to herself. She couldn't believe Alex was doing this to her, just when she was starting to really like him.10

Eva screamed into the dark night, as she wrapped her arms around her head and rocked herself. She began to breathe hard, as she grew afraid. She was alone in this house, she felt alone in the world. Eva got up after a while and ran out of the room. She ran down the stairs and to the front door, opening it and running onto the porch. Her eyes searched the area around the house. She had no such luck of finding anything, because it was much too dark for her to see anything. 11

She contemplated the idea of walking back into town, but she was afraid of what she would run into. She took a deep breath and decided to go for it. Eva locked the door behind her and headed out. She couldn't see ahead of her much, and she kept tripping over things on the ground. Tears kept running down her cheeks. 12

"Why would he do this to me? I thought he liked me... Why would he leave me here?" She asked out loud, not expecting a reply.13

Eva stopped dead in her tracks. She heard something, what was it? She thought. She looked around and didn't see anyone, but she heard it again. Was that a cough? Someone was near her but she couldn't see who. Eva's legs trembled, but stood solid in that one spot. She wanted to run, but she wasn't able to get her legs to move. 14

"C'mon damn it, move, move!" She whispered angrily. Her voice was trembling as well. 15

Eva finally moved her legs, she decided to run back to the house where Alex took her. She forgot which way it was. 16

"Damn it. God..." She began to cry again. 17

Eva was walking fast, in the direction she thought the house was. She began to run quickly, and she saw a light. The light of the bedroom! She hadn't turned it off, or did she? She couldn't remember whether or not she did, and she didn't care. Eva just wanted to get somewhere safe, and the house was the only place she knew she could be alone. Running quickly, she fell face down. Her chin scraped the ground, and it stung. 18

The fall didn't stop her, fear kept her running. She ran to the porch and tried to open the door.19

"Shit!" She screamed out loud.20

Eva locked the door behind her when she left earlier. She rammed her body into the door, and it still wouldn't budge. She ran off the porch and into the back of the house. Noticing a rock on the back porch, she picked it up and threw it through the window that was in the back door. It had made a loud noise in the quiet night. She reached into the broken window and her hand searched for the door knob. Bingo, she unlocked the door and entered the house. 21

It had seemed different to her, it's probably because she didn't enter the back of the house before. She pulled out a chair and sat at the breakfast table in the kitchen. Eva ran her hands through her hair, and put her head on the table as she sobbed. She felt a sting on her chin, and she remembered she was bleeding. She got up and turned on the light. 22

"Now, where is a towel or something?" She asked herself. 23

Eva found one, and she went to the sink to put water on it. 24

"Oh My God! What the hell is that?!" Eva screamed when she saw something red coming out of the faucet, instead of clear water. 25

"Oh God, that better not be what I think it is.. Oh dear God." She whispered, horrified.26

Eva threw the towel into the sink, and ran out of the kitchen. She heard a noise outside, doors slamming shut. Eva became worried again. She ran to the front and made sure the door was locked. She peeked out of the window, and thought she saw a black car, with two men coming out. 27

Eva ran upstairs into the bedroom, and locked that door too. She locked herself in the bedroom and hid in the corner. The overweight Eva was breathing hard, trembling all over. There was a loud knocking on the door downstairs. Eva didn't even dare to go downstairs to answer it. She didn't know who it was.28

"Could it be Alex?" She whispered to herself.29

"If it's Alex, he's got the key..." She tried to make sense of everything going on lately, but she couldn't.30

All Eva did was sit in the corner crying, holding her trembling body. The door downstairs, she heard it unlock. She felt at ease, now thinking it's Alex. She was about to get up and unlock the bedroom door to go meet him when she heard two pairs of footsteps coming up the stairs. 31

"Two men? Of course.. there were two men coming out of the car.." Eva whispered, tears forming in her eyes again.32

Horrified, she heard the noise she was afraid of hearing. The sound of the doorknob being turned. It was locked, and she heard cursing from the other side of the door. She let out a gasp, terrified of who she will see at the other end when they forcefully open the door. She began praying to God. Eva didn't feel at ease, even though no one could enter. 33

"They couldn't enter." She said to herself, her voice trembling.34

Not yet anyway.35

I want to know why there were two men coming out of the car, and why did she leave, those are the people who always get killed in the movies, the ones who leave the safety of their hiding place, and/or run upstairs. But I guess she is safe foro now....
