Occam's Razor: Love is the Simplest of Answers

It was love.1

He would tie her up to the bedposts, eagle-spread and he would ram an object up her.2

His fists aimed at her body.3

Passion, that’s what it was.4

Infatuation was shown by the carvings on her body…the sweet red blood that he forced from her skin.5

He loved the sound of her voice. It was why he forced her into screaming.6

Love, this is what it is. It was simply love.7

When she would cry, he would stifle her tears – with his hands twisting her neck.8

This could not be love, right?9

No, this was simply love…10

Author notes

Occam's Razor is basically a notion that the answer to most problems is the simplest explanation, unless known otherwise. In this case, the narrator believes that the reason she is being tortured is because it is love - a 'simple' explanation, and the only explanation she really wants to think.

I am aware that there are women in relationships like this, and I do not support it. Just in case you wanted to know. My friend's mom runs a house for women who have been abused at home and I honestly enjoy volunteering there and helping them out as best as I can.

On another note, I didn't like my other entry. So I gave another. =]

A thought-provoking piece. There is such truth in what you've written - and across the world women in abusive relationships continue to think exactly that. It's not a delusion but a belief - that he loved them and must continue to love them irrespective of what their actions really say.

Thank you for your entry and good luck.
