Curse of Mercy

I have sat on on tombstones like this all around the world for a hundred years tonight. For a hundred years I have waited like the angel of death for life beaten children like you, so desperate for escape that my scent of death drew you like the aroma of pie brings a fat boy. You could feel my power drawing you here tonight. I know what you want, be patient, i have a story to tell you.1

One hundred years ago I was seventeen just like you my life had been nothing but one long string of blows until by my seventeenth birthday I was so broken that my spirit had all but died. I needed an end but thanks to the damn counsellors I could not get hold of any means of my own demise. So for weeks I lay awake at night wishing that the ceiling would fall and crush me or that my heart would just stop beating. Then one night I felt the strongest desire I had felt for anything in nearly five years. I found myself climbing out of my bedroom window and walking determined to walk until I found death. I walked ten miles and when I stopped I was in a small cemetery so old that no relatives now lived to visit the dead. Vined and dying weeds shrouded the weather-worn tombstones the trees so large that they cast massive shadows. I stopped in front of one such shadow. 2

I stood there for a couple minuted before he came into my weak mortal veiw, His long blond hair beautifully cascading over his shoulders, framing his snow white face in which were set the coldest blue eyes. He watched me with vague amusement, and stood nonchalantly waiting for me to voice my request. I didn't know who he was nor did I care I just knew somehow he could kill me.3

"What do you want little girl?" He asked with the slightest hint of inpatients. But then he seamed slightly surprised that I stepped closer to him. "You aren't running little girl?" He asked amused again.4

"Im not afraid of you." I said my voice dead.5

"Oh," he said lavishly "you should be." He then smiled showing a set of ivory fangs. My eyes widened in disbelief, a real vampire! But my interest in his species soon faded back to my purpose. " I am ever so thirsty" He went on taking a menacing step towards me. My heart thundered in my chest and adrenaline coursed through my veins but I held my ground.6

Then he chuckled a deep evil yet seducing sound. Then he started circling me like a piece of art, his feet made no sound in the dried leaves. 7

"So my beauty," He said dragging a long fingered hand through my hair his cold hand stealing heat from my neck sending a shiver down my spine. "Since you are not afraid of me, what is it you want? Do you ave a stake somewhere in that silky nighty?" To emphasise his point he drew his other hand just over my skin in an almost sensual way reminding me of how my step father had done the same. "Do you plan on shoving a stake through my heart?" With that he tugged my hair just enough to hurt. Then he stood behind me and drew his unnatural hands underneath my jaw8

"Or is it that you want to join me and never lose your beauty?" I whimpered as he did caress my body. But not because he touched me. The thought of living one more hour was far worse than I could bear much-less eternity. "Speak up child." He said coldly rubbing my skin harder than needed.9

"Kill me." I moaned. His hand s flew off of me so quickly that I fell into the Autumn leaves. I sat and waited for a violent attack waited for his teeth to tear into my flesh waited for his hands to break my bones. Waited but nothing happened. I began to cry and muttered to what I thought was empty air please.10

Then I felt a gentle hand on my back I looked towards the cold that I felt through my nightgown. I saw the vampire kneeling next to me. I looked up into his face and saw it very sober.11

"I will do as you ask child what is your name?" He replied sounding very old and worn out.12

I didnt answer but drew my long hair aside baring my neck to him.
His eyes flickered with something I couldnt recognise.13

"As you wish Beauty." He said almost sadly then pulled me to him like a lover might and began sucking at my neck like my boyfriend used to it felt good to have his cold lips sucking at my skin. Then I felt his fangs pierce my skin in four small spots. Then he returned to sucking but this time I could feel my blood leaving my skin it felt good physically and was emotionally comforting knowing that I would slip into death. I could feel myself dying, my strength fading. Then he pulled away gently I assumed because I was about to die. I used the last of my strength to whisper:14

"Thank you"15

"Thank you." he said correctivly. I felt him shift and thought he was going to start sucking my blood again. But instead he kissed me. His lips were warmer and wet and I could taste the Iron in my blood as his tongue passionately entered my mouth. I didnt have the strength to resist him nor did I want to, yet. He pulled his tongue back and I felt a three jerking motions then his lips returned to mine they were wet still but a new taste mingled with my blood growing stronger seeping from his lips and tongue. It tasted of rosewater a scent I had always associated with death. By the time I realized that it was his blood that could turn me it was too late, my body already craved it i couldnt stop drinking his blood I didnt want to.16

I drank and drank until he had nothing left. I pulled back and looked at him hating him. He looked at me with gratitude n his eyes. He handed me this key and pointed towards a vinecovered mausoleum. I knew what he meant, the sun was coming up. I had to run. So I did and left him there to whatever fate was waiting for him in those golden rays. I listened safe behind the stone  of the mausoleum and heard a soft sound like that of sugar being poured onto a counter.17

I looked around the mausoleum and saw a scroll looking thing laying on the top of a coffin. I walked over and opened it. it read:18

If you are reading this thank you. I was just like you once and met my fate just as you did. Destroying my maker. you are a vampire yes and you will feed on hundreds. We are not like the others though wich is why our line has survived so long. our family as some have called it was started when a boy fell in love with Victoria a vampire who had long wished for death. she promised him eternity but tricked him and made him destryoy her as I made you destroy me. thet is the only way to die you must have someone drink the blood from your veins then be burned in the sun. our father, Gregory discovered that victoria had been cursed by her bloodlust to end the lives of those who have no hope and we fall nto her curse for being so selfish as to leave our lives. Here are our rules only feed on those who run. for we draw all of those whose lives are never going to get better. it is our curse of mercy. But after you have brought mercy to your number of souls there will be one who doesn't run but begs for death. He will be the chosen one just as you were my chosen one. Go and bring peace to the world.19

So I have. And so will you.
