Chapter 41
As Anelle awoke from her slumber her eyes were droopy and barely open, her breath had such a horrible smell that was like old cheese, and her mouth was dry and lips were chapped. She drearily got up to wash her face and brush her teeth and as she did so she heard her mother talking to Anthony. She quickly finished, thinking of what she and Anthony talked about the night before, about her best friend Natalie. 2
She headed toward the stairs and then she heard her mother scream she ran down to the kitchen with her sabers in her hand and as she approached the kitchen breathing in and smelling the fried eggs and cinnamon rolls she braced herself of what she might see. She peeked through to see Anthony’s older brothers’ friend with a wedding ring in his hand. She peered at the ring thinking about her older sister René and she walked in still holding the sabers in her hand. She snatched the wedding ring from him and tears filled her eyes. “What are you doing? You know she will say NO! Just give up Peter. You and I both know you don’t love her you just need something from her, back off Peter!”3
Peter stared at her, not with hatred but with sadness. He once was an archer for the town lookout but quit when he met Rene.4
“ANELLE! He does love her and he will do anything for her even die! He probably loves her more than you ever would” her mother yelled angrily with hatred. Anelle looked at her tears now gone with anger replacing it. She then looked at Peter and when she met eye contact with him he then quickly looked away afraid to meet her eyes of hatred for him. 5
“Fine I’m leaving! Don’t bother looking for me it’s a big town don’t want you to die in the next attack” Anelle said simply walking away as if she didn’t say one of the cruelest thing you could say to a person besides I hate you.6
She didn’t look back and she never did beyond that point. Her family didn’t ignore her but they didn’t pay attention to her either, they just acted as if nothing happened with her as if she didn’t almost die two days ago.7
