Gavin1

What a nice name. It fit my dream boy well. He smiled a heartbreaking smile and moved to sit next to me on the sofa, still keeping my hands in his.2

"I'm glad you like it." he mused.3

I tried to smile back but my face was frozen together in a look of shock.4

He can hear me.5

"Yes Anna, I can hear you. I can hear everyone." he chuckled.6

Okay, you can hear me...am I dreaming?7

His flawless face turned serious. "No." he answered promptly.8

Then how are you real?9

Gavin sighed and I felt the coolness of his breath against my face. It made me dizzy and I felt my head spin. I closed my eyes trying to come back into focus.10

"I'm sorry, Anna. I keep forgetting how much more sensitive your senses are outside of your dreams." He smiled a half smile. "Do you want me to leave?"11

My hands clenched into fist in his. The thought of him leaving me now was unbearable. I never wanted him to leave.12

"Very well then." His fingers caressed the skin of my palm and my dizziness came on stronger. That and his voice was not helping me focus.13

I'm sorry.14

My eyes snapped up to his in shock and he bit his bottom lip to keep from laughing. "You said my voice was distracting. I thought maybe it would be less so in your head. Seeing as that's were you hear it most of the time."15

This was true. I had heard his voice in my head many times during the day. I hear him humming, sometimes he'll tell me how much he loved me. But that was when I knew I was crazy. I knew no normal person heard voices in their head. Mine were just to nice to give up. So I kept it to myself.16

I took a big deep breath and cleared my throat. "You can read my mind and speak in it." I stated, almost running out of breath from saying just one sentence.17

Yes, as I can with everyone else.18

"Stop that." I snapped. "It's to confusing."19

Gavin's face twisted in hurt. "Forgive me, I'm trying to get a handle on this as well."20

I had to look away before it broke my heart into a million pieces. "No, it's just hard right now. It's not your fault. I'm not upset."21

I heard him release the breath he had been holding and his cold hands tightened around mine. "You weren't suppose to find everything out like this. Not until you turned eighteen. And not all at once." I looked up into his bright eyes and he smiled at me. "But it is nice in some ways. To have you know everything. To not have to hide in front of you."22

"What do you mean hide in front of me?" I asked. This was all just to weird.23

"Haven't you ever wondered why your mother always keeps the curtains open? Or why you have so many windows in your room?"24

I shook my head. This was making no sense.25

He chuckled and it made me feel a little better. "You can't see me in the sun. No one can."26

"Your invisible?" I blurted out in shock.27

Gavin laughed again. He was way to happy about all of this. I however was not smiling.28

"I guess you could say that. But only in the sun. And you love the sun, so it all worked out just fine. You liked to go outside all the time, which meant I could be there with you. Only on those wretched cloudy days was I forced to stay away from you. But I always have your mind with me where ever I go. Your never in any danger. I promise."29

What? None of this is making any sense. I'm still going on my I'm dreaming theory.30

"Your not dreaming Anna." He touched my face and it made me shiver. His hand was so cold. Yet smooth. Like satin. White satin. "I'm real. Please believe me. I've wanted this for so long. Please don't take it away from me."31

His voice sounded so sincere, how could I not believe him. All the sudden there was no doubt in my mind I was not dreaming. My dream boy was real.32

"Okay." I said slowly. "Why are your eyes white?"33

He smirked. "Why are your eyes blue?"34

I almost cracked a smile. "Okay then. How are you invisible in the sun?"35

"Truthfully, I have no idea. The same reason your solid, I suppose."36

This time I did smile. "Why are you so pale?"37

"The sun can't touch my skin, Anna. Wouldn't you be pale as well?"38

I sighed. He was evading all my questions. But this one he could not. "What are you?"39

This caused him to stare off to the side, as if he was thinking. "I'm..." He looked back up to my eyes. "Well, I'm something very old. Let's just put it at that."40

"But-"41

"In time, I suppose I will tell you. But not now. That's a much longer story for a different time." He smiled softly.42

"One more question?" I asked innocently and he gave me a look but nodded anyway.43

"Were my dreams really dreams?"44

"Yes, of course. You didn't think I'd wait all the way until you were eighteen to talk to you, now did you? I've been putting dreams in your head since the day you were born. I wanted you to know me and I wanted to know you. Everything conversation we've had has been real. Just in your head." He tapped my temple lightly as he said this and I smiled.45

"So everything you've told me in my dreams is true then? I really was made for you?" I asked, still confused even though I had heard this story tons of times before. I wanted to hear it in person though. Real person.46

"Yes. Everyone one of my kind needs a mate. They are made for us especially. Right down to the very freckles on your cheeks. Your everything I'll ever want because you were made for me and me only."47

"Why?"48

"It has to do with bloodlines. I'll explain everything when we have more time to ourselves."49

"Why don't we have time now?"50

He laughed. "This is just not the place. I'll have to show you everything as well. It's not so easily explained. Besides, don't you want to go off and tell Gabby of everything? I would hate for her to be left out of this."51

My brows furred in confusion. "Gabby? You know Gabby?"52

"Of course I do. I know everything about you Anna. And Gabby as well. She is your best friend after all. I would never want to take anything away from you. I don't think friend's should keep secrets."53

"Do you watch Gabby to? Like you watch me?"54

He laughed. "Of course not. But she's got more than enough others do just that. If something happened to her you'd be devastated. If something's important to you, then it's important to me. I care for her as much as you do. As odd as that sounds."55

"She's gonna flip. You know that right? She's gonna go psycho and just scream all over the place when she sees you. I haven't talked about you to her since I was little. I don't even know if she's gonna remember."56

His face seemed a bit...nervous.57

"Unfortunately, I know. She is a bit...odd, isn't she? And I've seen some odd things in my day." He almost seemed reluctant to meet her personally. I'd be afraid of her too.58

I laughed. "Be prepared."59

He gave a nervous smile. "I'm not to good with meeting new humans."60

I stopped dead in my tracks. "Humans?"61

He shrugged his broad shoulders. "Later."62

Gavin wouldn't explain anything else to me so I went to the phone and called Gabby. I explained to her that there was someone who I wanted her to meet and asked if she remembered that guy that was always in my dreams when I was little.63

She hung up on me.64

Gabby believes in a lot of weird things and I knew she would have no trouble believing me when I told her about all of this. This is a girl who is convinced unicorns and aliens are real and names just about everything she owns and comes up with full background stories for each one. Gabby is my best friend solely because of her imagination and how mine clicks with hers. We understand each other in a way no one else can. If Gavin told me he didn't want me to tell her about him, I would have told her anyway. Nobody comes between us.65

So while we waited for her to arrive Gavin sat next to me on the couch, his arm laying across the back behind my head. It felt normal to sit so close to him and I felt oddly content. It's almost as if I've knew he was always there. That's why I felt lonely in the dark. Because he wasn't there.66

But Nolan, what about him? Why did Gavin hate him so much? He seemed perfect to me. I wouldn't mind spending more time with him actually. He had an odd pull on me. Like a rope was connecting me to him. I could feel where he was at this very moment.67

Somewhere crowded. Somewhere loud. He was anxious. I could just feel it. I wonder if he did something to me. I wonder if Gavin knew.68

"Yes he did something to you and yes I know." he suddenly said in a harsh low voice. "I intend on taking care of that later too." He looked down and his eyes where a dark gray.69

"I'll need you to help me with that. If you don't mind."70

I nodded automatically, fearing the look in his eyes. I don't like when they're dark.71

They suddenly flashed back to bright white. "I'm sorry. They get darker when I'm angry. I don't like to hear you think about him. I'm sad to admit it makes me extremely jealous. You like him so much."72

I was about to counter that when there was a frantic knocking on the front door.73

.:Gabby's POV:.74

By the third knock I got very aggravated. What is happening? I told her when we were little that imaginary friends aren't real, she needed to get her head out of the clouds and help me find a smurf.. . . I'm still looking for one of them. . . devious little stinkers.75

"Open the darn door! Don't make me go Chuck Norris on your booty!" I lost count of the knocks, my fingers were getting sore, "Let me in! I know where you live! And I will hunt you down, stalk you, leave dead cats, and flaming bags of poop on your-"76

Anna opened the door as I made my threats and I wrapped my arms around her in a bone crushing hug. Then I spotted the man standing near the sofa.77

"Oh my gosh Anna I told you not to take unwrapped candy from strangers!" This was the only conclusion. This boy must have drugged her. My poor Anna!78

I turned to him, fire shooting out of my eyes.79

His eyebrows creased. He best be looking out, on my mama if he touched her I will go all Jackie Chan and he wont know what hit him.80

He chuckled softy. "Anna, I think you should introduce us." he said in sweetly, like he just knew everything, I glared again at him and turned back to Anna, who had filled the space between me and that intruder. What, that sissy cant fight his own battles? She can do better...81

WAIT! What is even happening?82

"Gabs calm down, everything's okay." Anna said sweetly like she just knew everything too, yeah, ecstasy will do that to you. I ran forward, grabbing her fiercely in a tight embrace.83

"What?!" She squeaked as I squeezed harder.84

"Hugs, Anna, not drugs." I patted her hair, letting go.85

"Gabby. Your jumping to conclusions, he's-"86

"No you dont, I know already, why do you always succumb to peer pressure. I try to lead you in the right path, but your gullible ways always pull you back, its like a two year old with something shiny..." I sighed, shaking my head.87

Anna sighed and looked at the man pervert. "Gabby, this is Gavin." she said, looking back at me and biting her lip. "This is the guy I tried to tell you about a long time ago. Don't you remember? I told you he had white eyes and pale skin. I used to tease you all the time. Saying he was prettier than your stupid Barbie doll with the bendable legs."88

I gasped then glared at Gavin standing behind her, arms crossed, looking like the perv he was. "You were the cause of all our fights when we were six. All she did was talk about you! And that Barbie was the shiznit!"89

Anna went on to explain how he's been in her dreams since she can remember and how he just showed up today out of nowhere. Then she told me about some boy named Nolan and how he asked her to come with him. Ugh, it was all so confusing. Especially the part where she said that this Gavin guy could read my thoughts and talk in my head. Now this was a little harder to believe. I mean come on, the eyes could be contacts and the skin could be make-up.90

I starred at him intently. So he would know what color underwear I'm wearing.91

He scoffed a chuckle. "I can read thoughts, I don't have x-ray vision."92

My eyes widened, oh no he did not.93

"YOUR READING MY MIND!94

"You kind of scream you thoughts...it's hard to ignore." Anna stared at him for a second and they smiled at each other. They're sharing secrets. I don't like this.95

"Stop it with the eye texting, your grossing me out guys." I gagged. Waving away to 'mushiness' with my hands. Horny teenagers.96

Gavin snorted, then Anna's eyes widened as she blushed.97

"Gabby!"98

"Wha-? Your reading my mind again! Anna make him stop!" I whined pouting with my arms crossed.99

"I'm sorry." he stated formally.100

Oh well at least he apologized, forgive and forget, I am such a kind person.101

"Sooooo...how old are you?" I asked.102

He just smiled politely. "Old enough."103

"How old?" I pushed.104

"Older than you'd think."105

"Which is?"106

"Which is old." he said a bit impatiently.107

I gasped. "Well if your so old how do you do that, and with still such a nice complexion, my grandma, she seventy six and her skin is like decaying off of her as we speak, I'm like Grams, get some freezer bags, you look like your gonna die. And then she bakes cookies, of all the things, COOKIES! The woman has a cookie fetish, chocolate chip, peanut butter, oatmeal, you name it! My Grammies got it, you know what I'm saying?" I tried to give him a high five, but he just stared at it blankly.108

"Fine, its cool, a lot of white fish can't do it." I grin, hiding the obvious snub I had just been served.109

"You don't make any sense." Gavin reprimanded me. Woah man, feel the wrath, I feel like I'm in Sunday school. Eww, sweaty nuns.110

Gavin wrinkled his nose, clearly getting the mental image of my old Sunday school with the mustache and yellow teeth. Feel my suffering man, every week.111

"Why are you so pale?" I asked randomly, just to throw him off guard.112

He sighed. "I have no form in the sun. It's almost as if I'm invisible."113

"In the sun. . ." I whipped out my bag and pulled out a post card of sunny California, "BE GONE!" I yelled holding it up, peeking from behind the tattered edges.114

There he still stood.115

LIAR116

Anna started laughing and Gavin gave me a look as if to say what does your mother feed you? If he did voice that I would reply simply- pudding.117

"The sun rays, light, not a picture." He specified.118

Yeah right, liar.119

"So. . . if your invisible, and Anna's blinds are always open. . . pervert" I sneezed oh so convincingly into my hand.120

He stared at me in confusion. Then he scowled. "No,"121

I raised my eyebrows.122

"I would never invade her privacy like that."123

"What?" I said oh so innocently.124

"What you. . inferred."125

"I inferred nothing, maybe if you got your freaky little mind out of my head you wouldn't think those things." I smiled.126

I stood up, "Well nice meeting you Gavin." I scrutinized him with a look, "If that is your real name. But me and Anna don't like visiting the men in white coats, their hands are not gentle, so we'll be off, so you cannot further dilute our minds, have a nice day." I grabbed Anna's hand, "Come child, we shall go play hopscotch, and not act like a child!" I glanced pointedly at Gavin, "Pretending we're invisible, and invading peoples bubbles," I went to walk out with dignity, but Anna being the worrisome child she is, stayed put. Staring at that hobo Gavin.127

"Why do you have such a problem with me?" He asked.128

"STAY OUT!" I whined covering my ears and effectively blocking any entrance to my mind. HE rolled his eyes at ME.129

"Anna come."130

She bit her lip looking back at him.131

"Leave this hobo here, come now, chop chop." I said, holding out my hand for her to take it.132

She gave me a sympathetic look. "I know this is hard Gabby. Come on, stay here."133

Anna gave me the darn puppy dogs eyes and my shoulders slumped forward and I drug my feet over to the couch, defeated. She smiled happily and closed the front door.

I about fell outta my chair I was laughing so hard when you wrote in Gabby's point of view. This added a lot more to her character while adding some more to Anna and Gavin too. Great job and I can't wait to read more!
