She Promised To Return

“Are you sure you have to go?” I asked.1

She smiled at me. Then she came towards me and gave me a hug. Her wrinkled face showed love and tender, decorated with delicate wrinkles.2

“Yes, dear.”3

“But why?”4

She put her hands on my face and pulled me forward and kissed my forehead. She was a little shorter than me and she couldn’t stand on her toes. But I had never cared. Why should I? She is my grandmother and nothing can stop me from loving her.5

“I can’t leave your grandfather alone, can I? He is old and can’t look after himself. I have to go. But I’ll return, I promise.”6

With that, she sat down in the car and waved goodbye from the window. My father backed the car out of the drive, waved at us, and then drove my grandmother to the bus station. I waved till they were out of sight.7

Back inside the house, I felt sad and empty. My heart ached. But a little hope comforted me. At least, she promised she will return….

so, what do you think?
