Living with the Enemy.(A room mate story)Part 1

I sat on the windowsill of my apartment and watched my roommate kiss and toy with yet another boy toy.My eyes glared down at her.Alice was beautiful.Short, auburn hair and striking blue eyes. She was slim and short but well formed for such a small girl. Her vegan lifestyle kept her that way.Alice had a boyfriend named Richy that I found interesting, to say the least. He was greasy and smelled sour like pot and piss. She claimed to love him but almost every night I'd be at my window and she was with another man.Alice was a whore.I never really liked her.In fact, I hated her and may still hate her.How we came to living together is a story that is a bit more interesting to tell than watching Alice whore herself to random men.I'll begin with the basics. How we met.1

My boyfriend and I barely saw each other at the time and to have an excuse to hang out long and late nights we'd go to a church group and listen to the pastor, a young yet older man who was a friend of ours, give sermons for only about 30 minutes and then we'd be free to talk to our friends and hang out with one another. My boyfriend, Adam, was good friends with another boy named Jack who he knew from school and had introduced us to each other.Jack was having problems with his girlfriend at the time and brought another girl with him in an attempt to make his former girlfriend jealous. This girl was Alice. From the moment I set eyes on her I originally thought she was ugly and skinny and young.Still a vegan at the time I was right about the skinny and young but she became more appealing later.2

Alice was a very open, and opinionated person.Boy, I hated her.Everyone around me loved her though.Including my boyfriend.Adam was my pride and joy.Not only was he an upper class man but he was gorgeous.Shaggy black hair that he almost always covered with a black beanie. He was pale with the most stunning blue/green eyes you will ever see.He was tall and well built. Not too skinny and not too thin. His personality is easy to fall in love with because he's a people pleaser. He will do anything to get you to like him and think he's cool if he liked you.At first, his reaction to Alice was that of mine.He was displeased by her existence in the group and often ignored her.Later though, after she pressed herself on him he began to like her and spent ungodly amounts of time with her.3

She lived extremely close to him.Only a few blocks at the time in a small house with her mother. The mother being a lenient women allowed her young daughter to be out much past her bedtime and go out with whom she pleased.I had a curfew at the time.Alice began asking Adam for rides home after church and Adam agreed.I was vexed but I felt there was nothing I could do.For Adams sake I stared to be friends with Alice so that our late night fights about him being with her would stop. For a while they did. He'd take her out to wal-mart and book stores and other places open at night to hang out with her before he dropped her off. He'd buy her things and she'd steal him thing and they became too good of friends. My relationship with Alice changed to hatred and jealousy while my relationship with Adam turned sour.It felt as if they were spending more and more time together and I was left in the dust.4

When I confronted Adam about my concerns about their relationship world war three erupted and I was left sobbing because Adam refused to give up his friendship with the whore. He even refused to give up his late nights with her.I felt like Alice was trying to win over my boyfriend by being everything to him that I wasn't!By this point Alice became more beautiful and I hated what I saw when I passed a mirror. One day my pastor called to my warn me about Alice flirting with Adam.Alice and I exchanged heated words and my 1 year relationship began to crumble.5

Eventually Alice treated Adam the way she treaded everyone, like someone she only keeps around for the money and rides.Once Adam got this treatment in great doses he began to distant himself from Alice and six months later our relationship was mostly back to normal but because of the way he treated me when Alice came into our lives I never trusted or saw him with the same eyes again.Loving him is the only thing that kept me from ending it.6

My last encounter with Alice before we met again was two years ago.Adam and I were still growing in out relationship and everything was going well.My faith in God was iffy but I believed in doing the right thing and one night I was greatly tested. Now living on my own I was driving to my two bedroom apartment on a rainy spring night.Still a bit chilly the rain hit hard on the ground showing no sign of lightening up tonight. As I drove down a road in a woods like area a small, frail figure came into view.A girl was stumbling alone in the rain.As I watched her heels sink into the mud and her struggling just to move in the conditions I couldn't help but pull up and get out of the car to help her."Hey!Do you need help? Are you lost?"I asked as held my thin jacket close and ran up to her.The closer I came the more I could feel my heart beating in my chest."A-Alice?"She looked like she was crying but I couldn't tell.I was so enraged I was just about to turn around and leave her there when I saw the only real tear streak down her face and the genuine look of helplessness."My boyfriend and I got into a fight and he threw me out of the car."7

I couldn't leave her there.I found myself helping her to the car and then sitting next to girl that I believed tried to get with my boyfriend just a few years ago."Where do you live?"Alice didn't look at me."With him."I had sympathy for her.She looked so frail."Who can I leave you with?"This time she looked at me."I don't have anyone...I know this sounds crazy but could I stay with you for a while?"There she was.The Alice I was used to.A girl who imposes herself on everyone.I sighed and began driving, annoyed."Fine."The drive home was awkward."Marla..."I rolled my eyes."What?""I'm really sorry about how things ended when we were younger."I didn't answer her.I knew she wasn't sorry.I wanted her away from my boyfriend and out of my house as soon as possible.8

Once we got home I gave her a towel and some clothing to sleep in.I opened up the sofa bed for her and told her to help herself to anything in the fridge.Even though I would rather she just left and not touched any of my things.Alice pointed to a closed door."Who's room is that?"I walked to the door and opened it.A plain white room with one window and nothing in it."I put out an add in the paper.I can afford the rent but it would be easier to have a room mate.I can try pulling the mattress in here for you if you want."Alice shrugged and gave a fake half smile."No, this is fine."I went to my room and picked up my phone dialing Adam's number. He was out of town visiting relatives and won't be back at his place till late that week.I was eager to tell him what happened."You'll never guess what I found."Adam sounded amused."What?""Alice."The phone went silent."Uh huh..."Adam sounded less enthusiastic. After telling him the story he was relieved I didn't fight her or anything of the sort but still sounded a bit worried."That was nice of you, I guess."After that he basically told me he was tired and immediately got off the phone with me.
