His alarm went off at 7:00. He rolled over to turn it off, then rolled over and pulled me close to him. 1
“Morning Sunshine.” He whispered into my ear. 2
“Morning” I replied.3
“How was your night?”4
I looked into his eyes. “Wonderful.” I replied. And I kissed him.5
When we broke from the kiss we sat entangled in the sheets taking in the morning sunshine coming in from his bedroom window. “Would you like in the shower first?” he asked.6
“Sure, do you have anything to do today?”7
“It’s my mothers birthday, I thought I should run by her house. Would you like to come along?” 8
Great, his mother, she just loves me…not! “That sounds fun. I’ll be out of the shower in 10 min. I can make breakfast. What would you like?”9
He laughed. “Eggs are fine. Over easy. When did you start cooking?” he asked.10
I stood up and wrapped his robe around me. “Who said I couldn’t?” I left at that. I figured that was as good a time as any to get the day started. I finished my shower in 10 minutes flat. I towel dried my hair, walked to the bedroom and got my yellow sundress out of his closet. I don’t know why, but I’ve always kept a second wardrobe at his place. After I was dressed I went out to the kitchen and put coffee on. I poked around in the fridge till I found the eggs, and then I got a pan out. 11
I had just finished the eggs when the phone rang and Taylor came into the room and snatched the phone from me. “Hello?” He said to the person on the other end of the line. 12
“Oh! Hey Nick, What’s up?” he listened for what seemed like a lifetime. He said “ahuh” a couple of times. Then they said their good-byes and hung up.13
“What was that all about?” I asked14
“That was nick. He was telling me how his brother got a new job and he was wondering if I was interested in joining. We’re going to go to lunch tomorrow to talk about it a little more.”15
“Sounds interesting. What kind of job is it?” I asked.16
“O, just some public safety stuff. Nothing big.” He replied. 17
“Alright. Your eggs are at the bar.”18
He went and sat down. I wasn’t hungry so I didn’t eat. I sat and watched him. He was hiding something; I just couldn’t figure out what it was. But I’ve learned over the years, if he doesn’t tell me upfront then I’m not going to know until he’s ready to tell me. That’s just the way things worked. Can’t say I liked it but how was I supposed to change it?19
After he finished his eggs he rinsed off his dishes and put them in the dishwasher. We walked out the door together, holding hands. Now off to his mothers…can't wait…20
