Friday night came quicker than I expected. Jai continued to be… well, not his usual self, which struck me odd. He was on the outside still the same good brother, but on the inside… well, something had changed. And I didn’t know what. Layla and Chance were still happily together, even though my dream said otherwise. I still talked to him however, and he treated me just as nicely as he did to anyone else. I also strangely found myself hanging around Dario and Orion a lot (or was it the other way around?) and because of that, Chance, and sometimes Layla, would also join. So, we kind of had our own little group, which I thought was pretty cool, but on the other hand… well, I just wasn’t used to groups. It wasn’t that I didn’t like them hanging with me and stuff, but I had become so used to hanging and eating by myself, so… I just needed to adjust.1
Anyways, that Friday afternoon, Dario and I were sitting in our usual area, a nice shady and secluded area which was surrounded by a bunch of trees and bushes. It was located right behind the main office, and that allowed us a perfect view of the office staffrooms, as well as the traffic that was happening outside the school. 2
As we started to talk about the party that night, Chance walked over, his shoulder sports bag slung over his right shoulder, his tanned skin and golden blonde hair glistening with water. It was obvious that he had just finished doing sports, or footy, or whatever. He just stood there, looking down at Dario and I, and I couldn’t help but tune out and just admire his body. He was wearing a school singlet which allowed his tanned muscles to shine in the afternoon sun. As he raised his arm to ruffle his hair, I saw a small patch of dark brown hair underneath his arm, which was also sweaty. As my eyes traveled down further, I saw that his chest was extremely smooth, and I could almost visualize a six pack underneath the singlet. His thighs and legs were also well defined, most obviously from all the training he did during footy, plus his legs were shaved, and although it might’ve seemed gay, it just seemed to suit him. But the most shocking and stunning body feature that caught my eye was his package. Yeah, I know what you’re thinking, ‘Of course you’d notice that, it’s what all girls see in a guy!’, but not this time. When I looked at him, my eyes immediately went for his crotch. It was so huge! Obviously, he was wearing tight footy shorts, so you know, it might’ve accentuated his package, but in general; it looked big. It was scrunched up, like they usually were when guys wore jocks and stuff, but you could notice it. And my eyes hit my hairline as I saw it. 3
“Melody.”4
I wonder what it looks like? Ok, that was weird, but honestly…5
“Mel…?”6
That lucky bitch… what was her name? Lynette? Damn… why can’t I ever remember her name? She’s probably been pounded with it so-7
“Oi!”8
“Huh? Yeah, what?”9
“Are you alright?”10
“Um…” my eyes flickered over to Chance and his crotch, who was sitting down next to Dario, before back flicking back to him. “Yeah. Just… zoned out for a minute. Thinking ‘bout stuff.”11
Hoped no one noticed me… I thought, but when I looked at Chance, his ocean blue eyes caught my silver grey ones, and a flicker of amusement appeared in his eyes, but when I got distracted by a large truck that roared past, I quickly looked back at Chance, but he was already in deep conversation with Dario about his footy game that night. 12
“So, you guys gonna come to our match, and the party tonight?” Chance asked casually, his eyes flicking over to me. 13
“I definitely will be. Orion will be expecting it from me,” Dario chuckled. “How about you Mel? You thinking of going too, or nah?”14
I shrugged. “Maybe. I didn’t really plan on going to anything at all really. Footy’s not really my thing and I’ve got no one to go with to the party… ‘Sides,” I added, shooting a look over at Dario, “It brings back memories.”15
Dario flushed. Chance looked momentarily confused, but I continued on. “But yeah, I’ve got nothing planned anyways for tonight… might as well go. I’ll be able to get bored in a different location this time.”16
They both laughed. I was being serious. I hate sports.17
Even though the match started around 6-ish, I decided to go home, get changed for the match and party, then see if I could get Jai to give me a lift over back to school. If he didn’t (for whatever absurd reason), I’d probably take the bus into town and walk the rest. 18
As six rolled around, I asked Jai if he could drop me off at school. He looked at me, and although he said he’d gladly do it, his silver grey eyes, so much like my own, seemed to have been dulled, so that it was a cloudy grey. What was wrong with him? I asked him, again, but he just shook off the question and said that ‘he was fine’. I narrowed my eyes at him, but he said nothing more. 19
We arrived at the sports oval, and I could see it was already three quarters full with spectators. I thanked Jai, and he said that he’d come back for me around 7:30 or 8. I screwed up my face like I always did whenever I forgot to important things, and said,20
“Jai… um I’m gonna be going over to a friend’s place tonight, is that alright?”21
Jai narrowed his eyes as soon as he heard the hesitation in my voice.22
“A friend? Who?”23
“Um… you know Dario?”24
He narrowed his eyes even further when he heard that. “Yes. I thought you dumped him?”25
“I did… but now, he’s going out with a different… person now, and he invited me to come to a party… so is that alright?”26
Jai pondered the question for a bit, but then agreed in the end.27
“But I’m picking you up around 11, 11:30 ok?28
“Yeah, yeah, that’s fine”29
“Where am I finding this place though?”30
I was about to answer, when I realised that I didn’t know where Chance lived. I asked for Jai to wait in his car, while I searched for Dario and Chance. He reluctantly agreed. I walked over to the bleachers that had been set up for that night’s game. People had already begun to file in, and it was very crowded and noisy. I had no idea where I’d find Dario, but I had a sudden brainwave: the football team. He’d obviously be somewhere near there, offering his good luck and whatever else to Orion. 31
As I made my way through the crowds, I spotted a rather attractive brunette guy, with spiked hair, lounging around the bleachers, looking bored, but handsomely so. Staring at him for a few seconds, I figured that he mightn’t have been from our school, or he would’ve at least looked familiar to me. As he surveyed the crowd and the football teams, I saw him glance at me, look away, than do a double take. His eyes rose, as I raised an eyebrow in amusement. He seemed interested in me. However, my amusement was short lived as a rather large man moved in front of me, drawing me back to the task at hand: finding Dario. Moving past the bleachers, I eventually found the football team huddled in their own little area a few meters away. Doing a quick search of the team, I found no messy brown haired guy. I frowned in confusion.32
Where the hell is he? I thought. And as if this thought had floated out of my head, Dario’s voice, which was coming from behind me, reached my ears. Turning around, I saw he was walking towards me with Layla (yes, I got the name right, even though I did blank out for a few seconds), chatting animatedly.33
“Hey, Dario,”34
Dario stopped talking, and glanced over at me. He gave me a smile and walked over to me, while Layla just stared at me, giving me no signs of greeting. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: what a bitch.35
“Hey Melody, what’s happening? You are still coming tonight, right?”36
“Yeah of course, but what’s the address of Chance’s place? I need to tell Jai so that he can pick me up,”37
“Oh yeah. Um… it’s 18 Crescent Close, Gatton Court. Would Jai know where that is?”38
“Probably. He’s been around a lot, so it wouldn’t surprise me if he did know.”39
Laughing, Dario replied, “True… well anyways, I gotta give Orion my luck… as well as giving him a little taste of what might happen if he wins…I’ll save you a seat at the bleachers okay?”40
I nodded and laughed at his response, and he waved as he walked off with Layla, resuming their conversation. With 10 minutes to go before they started the match, I ran back over to Jai’s car, told him the address, and after repeating myself over seven times that I would be fine at the party, he drove off in a cloud of dust. 41
Making my way over to the bleachers, I immediately found Dario seated up near the top, and surprise, surprise, he was seated right behind the handsome, brown spiky haired guy. I frowned. 42
That was a tongue twister… I thought, as I walked up the bleachers, towards Dario. The spiky haired guy followed me with his eyes, looking uninterestedly at me, before turning his attention back to the game. I sat down next to Dario and he instantly began to strike up a conversation with me, which was nice of him. I forgot that quality of his. 43
However, as our team, the Coastal High Panthers, ran onto the field, three quarters of the bleachers started to cheer for the team, while Dario whistled and cheered for Orion. I couldn’t help but notice Chance’s tight footy shorts and his strong, muscular legs… 44
I couldn’t help but smile, and I started to cheer the rest of the team on.45
Everyone had said that it was obvious that the Panthers were gonna win, and they did, 34-19. I couldn’t help but notice that Orion was an exceptionally gifted player, and Chance was not too far behind him, in terms of ability. Orion had scored numerous tries, while Chance had only scored three, but he did make several good saves. As the team headed back to their little spot to gather their bags and clothes, Dario and I waited by the end of the bleachers with a few other people, including the brown spiky haired guy. He casually lay against the bleacher’s pole, observing the team, and I think, myself. Trying not to draw too much attention to myself, I asked Dario indifferently, 46
“Who’s that guy over near the pole?”47
“The bleacher’s pole you mean?”48
“Yeah,”49
Dario looked over for a second, before turning back.50
“That’s C.J King.”51
“Is that his real name?”52
“Nah, not really. That’s his nickname. His real, full name is Cave Johnson King, but everyone calls him C.J. He goes to Bay Waters High. I’ve seen him around at a few of Chance’s parties. Why?”53
I shrugged. “Just wondering.”54
Dario smirked and replied, “Oh really? I heard he’s single though…”55
I slapped Dario in the shoulder as he continued to laugh. Orion and Chance wandered over with no shirts on, the sweat running down their faces and chests, with their bags slung over their shoulders. I lost all interest in C.J as I saw these two hunks walking up towards me. Dario walked over to Orion, and they shared a passionate kiss, leaving me and Chance standing around awkwardly. I looked up at Chance and said, rather quietly,56
“You did good Chance,”57
Chance smiled and replied equally quietly, “Thanks.”58
I didn’t know why we were whispering, but it just seemed better to not interrupt Dario and Orion with their little session. However, I became equally awkward when Layla arrived and flew herself into Chance’s arms, which he did so willingly. From what I could see, Layla had said something funny or witty to Chance, as he was now smiling and quietly laughing to themselves. So now, I was surrounded by two couples, one of whom was my ex, and the other who was a guy that liked, but was taken. Life sure does suck.59
Thankfully, a distraction in the handsome form of C.J arrived. Taking any kind of distraction a welcome sign, I immediately turned towards him and said, 60
“Hi,”61
“Hey…?” C.J looked rather confused, but who wouldn’t? I was the only person surrounded by kissing couples. “I see that you’re left out,” he said jokingly. I noticed immediately that he had some sort of accent… American? It wasn’t very strong, but it was there. And it made him sound hot. I smiled sheepishly and replied,62
“Yeah, well, that’s what happens when you’re single,”63
“Single? You’re single?”64
“Does it seem that bad?” I asked, laughing.65
“Not at all. I personally think that’s a good thing…” 66
I looked at him quizzically, but he was spared an answer when Chance said,67
“C’mon Cave, enough with the flirting. Are you still coming tonight?”68
C.J looked over at him and replied, “Yeah course, wouldn’t miss it for the world mate. What time is it again?”69
“Ah, around 8:30, 9 at least,”70
“Ok, cool. I’ll see you over at yours then.”71
He said goodbye to everyone else except for me, but he raised his eyebrows at me, before walking off to the other side of the oval. 72
“Right then, Dario are you guys gonna come over now?”73
“Nah, we’re gonna cruise over to mine for a bit, then we’re gonna head over,” Orion replied. God knows what they were gonna do within that time…74
“What about you Mel? You gonna join the ride with ‘em, or you gonna come over to mine?”75
I looked over at Dario and Orion. I was kinda hoping that they’d go over Chance’s place so that I’d have someone to talk to. They, however, were too busy playfully wrestling each other. I looked back to Chance and Layla, and reluctantly said, 76
“Yeah, I guess. Jai kinda left me here on my own, so…”77
Chance grinned and replied, “Sweet. Layla’s gonna be going home for a bit, but she’ll be over mine within half an hour, an hour tops. Hopefully,” he added, playfully narrowing his eyes at her. She just giggled.78
Slut.79
“So then, it’ll just be me and you then for a while if that’s all good with you?” Chance asked. I shrugged and said that would be alright. He smiled, and suddenly shouted at the top of his lungs,80
“WOOOO! PAARRTAAYY!”81
He continued to chant, and I shook my head at this, while Layla laughed. It even caught Orion and Dario off guard, but Orion eventually joined in the chant. Men.82
Chapter 883
The car trip was short, but eventful. Although I had to ride in the backseat for half of the ride, as Layla sat in the front, when she left, Chance offered me to sit up the front. I modestly accepted. I found that not only was Chance a hot looking guy, but his personality was so genuine, it seemed as if he could make any situation a laughing matter. He made me smile and laugh numerous times during the trip, and while we talked about both of our lives and other boring stuff, I started to feel connected to him. Well, on a friend basis. 84
We reached his house, which was just on the corner of the street, and I saw that it was a rather nice looking two storey house on raised grounds, complete with garage, pool (I expected) and, what Chance called it, a ‘mini-jungle’ in his backyard. Apparently, his dad loved plants and gardening, so he had a mixture of all sorts of plants, trees, flowers, or anything his dad thought was exotic. Chance said that it was quite a beautiful and peaceful place to have a wander around in, and he promised to take me into the ‘jungle’. I laughed when he said that. He drove up to driveway, and holding a small remote in his hand, he pushed a button, making the roller doors slide up. Chance drove in, parked the car, and got out. I followed suit. 85
We entered a rather nice kitchen and dining room, with the walls completely covered in teak wood, and the floors with marble. Their appliances seemed to be extremely high tech, but it just made everything look… nicer somehow. It just coincided with each other. 86
Chance walked over to the fridge, got out a carton of orange juice, and poured it into two glasses. I smiled at his generosity. He seemed to be a good guy. As I drunk the orange juice, I couldn’t help but not hate Layla; after all, she was there in the first place plus she deserved to have him. I would think that to anyone, like I said, he was a good guy.87
“Well, I’m gonna go and have a shower. Just make yourself at home Mel. Watch some telly, play a few games on my Xbox 360, whatever,” Chance said. I nodded gratefully. He stood there for a second, as if he forgot what he was supposed to be doing, but soon walked off through the living room, disappearing from sight, but not before taking his shirt off as he did so. I raised an eyebrow. That was weird. Shaking my head, I walked over to the soft, leathery couch and turned on the T.V. the first thing I saw was a movie of some sort, but I couldn’t tell which one it was. However, I found out that it was ‘2Fast2Furious’ that was being played on channel ten. I lay back, and admired Vin Diesel’s physique, unconsciously making comparisons between him and Chance.88
Very muscular. I think that Chance might become like that later on… I thought. Suddenly, Chance’s voice boomed through the living room. Obviously he heard the high speed car chase that was happening on the movie.89
“You can turn that up more if you want Mel,” he said, his voice rather muffled from the shower.90
“Nah, thanks, I’ll be alright,” I shouted back. He said nothing more. After a few minutes, I got pretty bored with the whole car chase thing, so I flicked through the other channels, but I found nothing. Leaving the T.V. on, I started to wander around the living room, staring at all the ornaments, and the pictures littered everywhere. There was Chance wearing his sports uniform, when he was around 5 or 6 years old, his smile blinding the camera. Then there was another one when he was around 11, with him holding a small footy trophy. He was also smiling in this picture. In fact, as I looked around at all the pictures, I realised that he was smiling in all of them. I wasn’t saying that it was unusual, but Chance’s smile seemed to, well, it was always bright. And happy. I sighed. Damn that Layla…91
There was one picture that caught my eye though. Picking it up, I saw that it was Chance, and I figured that it must have been taken not too long ago, as he looked older and more mature in the photo. His hair seemed to be glinting in the sunlight, as it always did, which made me smile. Everything about him was perfect…92
Yet, there was another person in the picture, someone who looked vaguely familiar. I frowned and stared at the guy. He seemed to be just a tad shorter than Chance, yet his hair was the shade of chocolate brown, and it was flattened down with what appeared to be gel or wax. They seemed to be related, considering that their hair both had that little shiny golden aspect. 93
“How’s everything in here Mel? Did you burn down the place yet?” Chance asked jokingly. I gently put the picture down, turned around and replied mockingly,94
“No, I’m just trying to find the perfect place to set the light,”95
He just laughed. I didn’t realise that Chance was already half dressed for the party. He was wearing three quarter denim jeans that hung slightly off of his waist. His t-shirt was slung over his shoulder, exposing his chest. 96
Well, I was right about the six pack…97
He leaned against the corner of the wall, looking at me. I stared back at him. There was definite tension in the room. He finally looked down, with an air of awkwardness. He walked off down the hall without saying anything else. I stared after him. What was that all about? I didn’t have much time to think about it however, as I heard someone walking up to the door via the garage. As I heard the screen door opening, I turned around, and I saw Layla standing there wearing a nice and simple, yet somehow elegant silk top with ruffled edges, and long jeans. She was also wearing a frown.98
“Hi,” I said, rather uncertainly.99
“Hi,” she greeted back, with less enthusiasm. She suddenly walked off towards the hall, and what I thought led to Chance’s room. I raised my eyebrows and leaned backwards into the couch. I resumed my channel surfing, when I suddenly heard my name being called out. I immediately sat straight up, and I was just about to answer, when I heard the low rumble of an argument starting up in one of the rooms. Frowning, I strained my ears to listen in to the conversation without moving from my place. Although difficult, I managed to receive bits and pieces of their argument, and that made me frown even more: they were talking about me. I wasn’t so sure though; I might’ve just imagined those words, but I did definitely hear my name being yelled out a few times. But what on earth could I have to do with them arguing? Maybe Layla thought that Chance would cheat on her, or maybe that Layla is just super jealous, or maybe she thinks that Chance sleeps with other girls and that seeing me was the evidence she needed to launch the attack…100
Or maybe she thinks that Chance likes you and she feels threatened by this a small voice in the back of my head said. I shook my head vigorously, almost as if to wipe out that whole thought completely. It was just ludicrous, him liking me. It was Chance I was talking about…101
Layla stormed into the living room, and into the garage, startling me out of my precious thoughts. Confused, I made to get up from the couch, but Chance had followed her out of the room, saying to me rather heatedly, 102
“Just back off Mel.”103
Wow. That hurt. A lot. Uncertain, and rather insulted, I sunk back into the couch, and once again, resumed my channel surfing. Everything was silent for a while; Chance had remained in his same spot, standing diagonally across from me, giving him perfect vision of the garage, as well as the front of the house, while I just held the remote and pressed random buttons. I needed something for my fingers to do. Finally sighing, Chance walked over to an armchair opposite be, and sat himself down. Head in his hands, he started talking.104
“Look, I’m sorry. There’s just a lot of… tension between us lately, and… it’s kinda messing up our relationship a bit.”105
I nodded and didn’t say anything more. It wasn’t my place to ask him why they were fighting, let alone bring myself into this fight, even though my lust for Chance started to scratch up to the surface again when he said it was messing their relationship up. I fought it down however; it wasn’t right that I was thinking like that in the first place anyway. Looking over at Chance, he sighed again, and wistfully looked outside.106
“I still love her… and she loves me, but sometimes, someone- uh, something- usually messes everything up. Not that it’s their fault. When you think about it, it’s our own fault, but we still do it anyway.” Chance started to smile a bit as he continued to talk. “She’s bound to be in the garden somewhere. She loves that little pond.”107
I nodded again. So, their little argument was based around something- or someone perhaps? No need for guesses there: they only said my name, what three or four times? After thinking for around a minute, a loud rumble broke my out of stupor. I was hungry, and I realised that I didn’t have any dinner before I went to the footy match, let alone anything at the match itself. 108
“Do you have any food? I’m pretty hungry,” I asked Chance. 109
“Oh yeah, food,” he said rather distractedly, “Well, there’s like snacks and shit downstairs in the basement. Do whatever. I’ll be outside trying to find Layla…” 110
And with that, he ran outside into the garden. Usually, I’d be rather intrigued at what was happening between the two, but considering that my stomach was now the main priority, I put Chance and Layla at the back of my head, and food and the coming party at the front. Suddenly, my mood drastically changed from being confused and curious to just… well, excited. You know, one of those jitterbug thingies that you get moments before you know you’re going to have fun? I smiled. I knew I was going to have fun tonight.111
Chapter 9112
“You look hot tonight.”113
I smiled amusedly at my unknown flatterer. He was obviously either tipsy, or drunk. I figured the latter.114
“Um, thanks?”115
“Why do you look so shocked babe? I’m just saying the truth…” he slurred, putting an arm around me, while stumbling at the same time. I laughed, rather uncertainly. It was only a few hours into the party, and there were a few people who were drunk, or on the verge of doing so. 116
It was only a few minutes after I had eaten a few biscuits and little cocktail sausages before Chance’s first guest arrived: C.J, the handsome, brown haired guy from the match. He just stared at me, not a cold stare though, a rather curious stare, and asked me,117
“Where’s Chance?”118
“Um… trying to find Layla somewhere in the garden somewhere.”119
He just nodded. I nodded in response, and then came those awful awkward silences. Sighing, I turned back to the basement that was being used as the party. It was a rather spacious room, with a few sofas littered around the sides of the room. One table, a rather small one, was propped up in the middle. This was filled with various plates of snack foods, including chips, lollies, and some other snacks I couldn’t name, while an esky full with Coke, Sprite and Fanta was underneath the table. Located in the far corner was a rather large stereo with the same size speakers to match, with a stack of CDs on top of it. I hadn’t turned on the stereo yet, figuring that Chance would do that when he’d get back. 120
“So, is that all you do? Eat?”121
Taking a few strawberries and cream lollies, I popped it into my mouth. 122
“No, not really,” I said, my voice muffled because of the lollies. He raised an eyebrow at me. I screwed my face up in confusion.123
“What?” I asked, accidentally spitting out some bits of food from my mouth as I spoke. “Whoops, sorry.”124
After looking at me weirdly for a few seconds, he just started to laugh. I started to laugh too, and eventually, after I choked a bit at first, we started to casually get along. We sat there talking on the sofa, for a bit, when Chance walked downstairs, with Layla by his side. They looked more cheerful then they had before, so I figured they sorted out their little ‘problem’. 125
“Why isn’t there any goddamn music in here?” he cried, walking over to the stereo. 126
“Mainly because I don’t like your choice of music Chance,” C.J retorted. Chance just snorted, and hit the play button. A loud, resonating voice saying something that sounded like ‘Shannon Bot’, or whatever it was, echoed throughout the basement. I could actually feel the music pumping all around me. it sounded a lot like techno, and although I never really listened to it, I liked the bass that was happening, and I started to unconsciously nod my head to the music, while C.J just rolled his eyes and tried his best to not listen to the music.127
Eventually, people started to arrive and they started making the basement, which seemed extremely spacious at the start, very cramped and hard to move through. Boys and girls, all older than me, even some that had finished high school, all milled around, drinking and talking animatedly towards one another. I, on the other hand, felt particularly isolated, considering that I hardly knew anyone in the senior levels, except for Chance, Layla and C.J. thankfully, Chance kept reasonably close to me, even if I was just sitting down on the sofas. Every ten minutes or so, he’d casually excuse himself from his large group of friends, and make his way over to me, asking if everything was alright. 128
“Yes, I’m fine,” was the answer he always received. However, his company was nothing like C.J’s. Not only was he funny, but he was insightful with various topics, including love, which I found rather intriguing. He never even left my side, which although may be a bit weird, I actually found it rather comforting. Instead, his friends came over to him, and after he introduced me to them, he and his friends talked briefly before they left to find someone else. But he did walk off, only either to go to the toilet, or to get some food (in which he did a rather gentlemanly thing: he asked if I wanted anything, whenever he wanted food), but that wasn’t often. Most of the night we just sat and talked, which I liked. He made me feel comfortable.129
“So… do you live, *hiccough* like ‘round here?” he asked, as he leaned onto me. I winced. I didn’t like alcohol that much. Although I do drink, I don’t tend to overdo it, unlike some people.130
“Yes, I do live around here. Maybe you should sit down.”131
He waved off my offer, looking angry at this request.132
“Sit? I can *hiccough* stand well, see?” and he stood for a few seconds, or stumbled for a few seconds, before losing balance and falling into the sofa. I couldn’t help but laugh, and the other girls and guys who were watching laughed as well.133
“Alright Samson, I think you’ve freaked out Mel quite enough,” said a voice. C.J had finally turned up after a lengthy toilet trip, and I inwardly sighed with relief. This guy was making me feel weird and rather uncomfortable. Even though I was rather discontented considering I had one or two drinks, he still made me feel out of place somehow. 134
“Aw, c’mon Kings, lemme talk to her for a while… you’ve *hiccough* had ‘er all night,” he pleaded. C.J just shook his head, grabbed him underneath both arms, and hauled him up.135
“I’ll be back,” he said, and with that, he walked off with Samson leaning on hi shoulder, complaining about how he should share. Awkwardly, I got some food from the table, as people went back to their groups, talking. Sitting back down, I heard that strong, familiar accent of C.J’s. That was something that I noticed with him. Although he sounded quite… I guess, normal, there were times when he let slip his American accent.136
“You alright Mel?”137
Looking up, I saw him walking towards me, the dim lights of the basement making the features of his face seem softer somehow. 138
“Yeah… nothing to worry about,” I replied, giving him a warm smile. He returned it, and sat down next to me, drink in hand. Offering me a drink, I eyed it cautiously for a moment. His bark of laughter startled me.139
“Do you really think I’d put something in this drink Mel?”140
Rolling my eyes, I took it, and a sweet flavour entered my mouth, followed by a rather bitter aftertaste which made me screw my face up and made C.J laugh.141
“Shut up, I’m still not used to it,” I protested. He shrugged, and continued drinking. 142
Four more drinks later, and I was between tipsy and drunk. Obviously, I couldn’t remember a whole lot of what happened the rest of that night, except for the fact that C.J seemed genuinely interested in me, and how Chance kept on looking at me. Although there are still some things that that I can’t forget, things that have now etched a permanent place in the back of my head…143
“Where we going?” I slurred, my drink slopping over my hand and clothes. I would have fallen over, if it wasn’t for C.J who was holding me up as we walked. I couldn’t make out where he was taking me, but I eventually figured that it was Chance’s backyard. I ‘ooohed’ and ‘ahhhed’ at the fairy lights that were situated throughout the trees, making it seem as if millions of fireflies littered the trees. The sound of the pebbles crunching underneath my feet eventually became a background noise, and the soft sound of the bugs chittering away became more pronounced and loud. 144
I didn’t care much for the noises honestly. All I could feel was C.J’s body heat emanating from his hand as he held it in mine. Sometimes he would squeeze it gently, and I looked at him rather stupidly; he just smiled back, laughing as he saw my face. The rest of what happened was a little blurry; I remember I took another sip of my drink (no doubt it was an alcohol related drink) and that C.J had sat me down in front of something that resembled a pond. He had started to talk to me, something irrelevant (I think). But it was my foolishness and drunkenness that would make this night unforgettable.145
“I think you’re hot,” I slurred, with a strong emphasis on ‘hot’. C.J was in the middle of saying something, but he left his mouth hanging open I surprise. Closing it, the corner of his mouth curved upwards into a slight smile, which made me blush. Quietly laughing to himself, he leaned in closer, the sweet smell of alcohol on his breath washing over me like a wave. He placed a finger underneath my chin, lifted it up, and brought his mouth close to mine. My eyes had widened in shock, embarrassment and to some extent, lust. 146
“I think the feeling’s mutual Mel…” he said rather huskily, and his rather soft lips finally touched mine. A soft, romantic kiss eventually turned into a rather fierce and passionate make out session, with C.J quietly moaning at the back of his throat. Our lips reluctantly breaking apart, C.J pulled me up, his face beaming.147
Leading me back to the house, I remembered that I passed a clock which read “12:45”. Although I Knew that I would be in so much trouble with mum and Jai, I ignored the wave of guilt that was washing over me, as I stumbled up the stairs, C.J in the lead. I noticed that not once did he let go of my hand. 148
We stumbled into the room, our lips locked together. I must ashamedly admit that I was driven by the greed for lust, and for himself as well, (but I was also drunk) but… there was something that took me away whenever I saw him. And this wasn’t the alcohol talking. Although he wasn’t like Chance, C.J had a unique quality about him, something that wasn’t present within Chance… C.J was the turning point for me.149
He laid me softly down on the bed, and I watched him take of his black sleeveless t-shirt. Lying down on top of me, I could hear his heavy breathing, washing me over with the faint, sweet smell of alcohol, while feeling his heart, which beat arrhythmically to mine. 150
As the night faded away on our moans and whimpering, it was the first time, since I had known Chance, that all my feelings for him had fled, only to be replaced with the passion and desire I had for C.J. 151
