The Love Story - Chapter Six

~Chapter Six~1

“What are you so happy about?” Alex asked me the next morning. I shrugged.2

“Life.” I smiled to myself, anxiously awaiting seeing Cliff. Our kiss or kisses, whichever, kept me awake all night, and I really wanted to see him. We got closer to ‘the group’ and I saw Cliff, looking at me. I smiled and walked a little faster.3

“Hey Cliff.” I smiled.4

“Hey!” He greeted, and then lowered his voice to a whisper, “Do you reckon we could talk?” I smiled and nodded, taking his hand, and leading him away.5

“Mel, I really like you okay. Like so much.” He said, going a little red. “You are beautiful, nice, funny…” I took his hand again. 6

“Cliff. I think I like you too. And I was wondering, would you go out with me?” I asked him. I had been planning it all night, how to ask, if I wanted to ask, and what he would say. 7

“What?” He asked. “I mean, Yes! Definitely yes!” He answered, smiling, then reaching in and hugging me so tightly. Then he looked in my eyes, leant forward and kissed me, just like he did yesterday. And it felt amazing; I still got goose bumps and tingles. When the kiss was over, we looked at the group to see everyone looking at us. I guess he must have yelled ‘yes’ louder than I thought. Me and him both started laughing, stood up and smiled at everyone.8

“Are you two…?” Alex asked. I nodded at her. She smiled. 9

The rest of the day was amazing, me and Cliff having sweet embraces and kisses between classes, and spending all of lunch just us two. I was so comfortable with him. It was amazing. Until after school. We were standing together, holding hands, and Cliff was busy explaining about what happened in his science class. Then someone tapped me on the shoulder, I turned to see James. I had almost forgotten all about him. Cliff turned and when he saw James, his face dropped. 10

“Mel. We need to talk.” James stated. I could tell he wasn’t going to take no for an answer.11

“Okay. Cliff, I’ll be back okay honey?” I leant in and gave him a small kiss on the cheek, let go of his hand and followed James. When we got to a seat, we sat down.12

“Mel. What the hell? Since when are you and that asshole an item?” James asked. I rolled my eyes.13

“I love him heaps, Last night we talked a lot, and I realised that. I asked him out this morning.” I explained. James looked at me in disbelief.14

“I can’t believe you are doing this. You were so upset about me…” He started.15

“Yeah. Was. Past tense.” I stated. 16

“Oh I get it.” He smiled slyly. “You’re doing this to make me jealous. You love me so much your willing to even do this to get me back.”17

“You don’t seriously think that do you?” I asked. “I love Cliff. He’s sweet, gorgeous, funny, nice, and he would never cheat on me. And you know what else? He loves me too.” And with that I stood up and walked back to Cliff, who had been watching the whole thing, probably trying to imagine what we were saying. 18

“What’s happening?” Cliff asked. I shrugged.19

“Only James. Being a loser, like usual.” I explained, laughing. Then I put my arms around my boyfriend’s neck and looked into his gorgeous piercing green eyes.20

“You’re the guy I want to be with.” I told him, and he smiled. 21

“I love you Mel.” He said, leaning in to kiss me. Just before our lips met, in the corner of my eye, I saw James. He was standing with his girlfriend, giving Cliff a look that could kill. But then our lips met, and James disappeared, as well as the rest of the school. All that was there, was me and Cliff.22
