Aedion and Oasis (A love story Part 2)

The next couple days Aedion was in another world; she wouldn’t pay attention to anyone or anything. She was powerless against the emotions Oasis has stirred up inside of her. Her family seemed to notice this change. She may have normally not been interested in princess-type activities but normally she just pretended to make things alright with the other royals. But now she seemed to busy in dreamland to even chance a care about the world going on around her. 1

More than once her father and mother approached her to try and find out what was wrong. But each time she would merely bat her big eyelashes, smile and say, “Oh nothing’s wrong, I am merely thinking.” But no one was buying that at all. 2

So when a week had passed and Aedion told her father and mother she was going for a little trip to clear her mind, they were a little less than extremely suspicious. Her father told his guards after she had left to follow her to find out what she was really up to.3

Aedion was hoping as she emerged from the dark blue waters and into the fresh April air that Oasis would come and see her. She didn’t exactly know why she wanted him too though. Maybe it’s because she couldn’t get his eyes out of her head, or because his body and figure and amazing smile haunted her very dreams. She wasn’t totally convinced that he wasn’t the same as all the other guys but she was easing up.  Maybe them meeting was really not a coincidence, maybe it was made to be. 5

Just then a hand landed on her shoulder, not forcefully mind you but soft and more to get her attention. She turned around to be nose to nose with Oasis’s beautiful flawless face standing behind her smiling. And all she could say was, “EEP! Hi…”6

How sexy he looks standing there, she thought as she gazed upon his standing with the sun behind his head, his big eyes sparkling in the sunlight. 7

He laughed, “Well hello to you too. That wasn’t exactly the reaction I was expecting.” 8

Blushing Aedion put her head in her hands trying not to let him see her red face. “I’m sorry you scared me.” 9

“Oh I’m sorry,” he replied pretending to be sympathetic of her situation.10

She punched him in the shoulder, “You are so not funny, you are a mean person.”11

He just stood there staring at her.12

They spent that whole day together, talking more about each other’s worlds, their families and things they both loved to do. When the night ended Aedion went home to her sea house and Oasis parted to his home in Elysium. 13

When Oasis got home it was not pretty. He heard from his sister Iris that their father was in a very bad mood and wanted to talk to Oasis in the great hall right away. 14

When he entered the great hall he saw his father sitting high and mighty at the other end of the hall, he was sitting on his golden throne. But he did not look happy.15

“Approach the throne.” His father bellowed in his deep monotonous voice, his anger seeping through his words. 16

“What is this about father?” asked Oasis kneeling, looking confused as he stood up. 17

“The girl…who is she? What does she want?” he asked standing up and walking towards Oasis, his long evening robe dragging behind him.18

“Who Aedion? Oh she’s just this friend I met. She is King Poseidon’s daughter. I met her about a week or so ago.” He replied not finding anything wrong with his situation; as opposed to his father. Zeus was a very short-tempered man and just about anything could tip him off. He was very mad if people kept secrets from him. Just like Oasis, in his opinion, had. 19

“Poseidon? What are you doing hanging out with Poseidon’s daughter? I absolutely forbid it.” He yelled back at Oasis obviously a little taken back by his father’s words.20

“Why Father? What is wrong with her?” He demanded. “What if I like her and want to continue seeing her?”21

“You may not. Do not disobey me! If you do you will be sorry.” 22

“Are you even going to tell me why you don’t want me seeing her?”23

“Fine…I guess you deserve that much.” He sighed heavily letting his anger drain so he could speak calmly. “Poseidon and I are brothers!”24

“Brothers?” he asked questionably.25

“Yes it’s a very long story that I cannot possibly explain to you. But let’s just say since we parted as a children we are not good friends, I hate him so.” He explained.26

“Doesn’t that make Aedion my like cousin?” He looked at his father. “Is this why I have never heard about her before or about her whole family and underwater kingdom?”27

“Yes…I didn’t want you to get involved in this, neither of us did. We swore we wouldn’t let our offspring ever meet. We didn’t want anything to disturb what we had going.”28

“Oh? So because Aedion and I met we have disturbed something?”29

“Yes Oasis and this is why I absolutely forbid you from seeing her ever again. Understood?” 30

“But I wanna see her again, I need to. I just have to. You can’t forbid me from seeing her!” Oasis yelled.31

“Silence boy!” Zeus yelled back louder, his voice deep and angry. “Don’t question my authority. This decision is final. Now go! Get out of here I need to think.” 32

Meanwhile Aedion was also in trouble with her father. As I told you before the king sent his guards to follow her and see what she was up to. Well they had just left the kings palace with their report when Aedion came strolling in with a huge love-sick smile on her beautiful tanned face. But that smile was soon wiped away as her father called her into his throne room. “Aedion we need to talk.”34

“About what father?” Aedion asked innocently. She like Oasis had no idea either were going to get lectures about seeing each other, because neither found anything wrong with what they were doing. 35

“It’s about this boy you are seeing, Oasis?” He replied eyeing her intently. He didn’t seem pleased.36

Curious to know what he meant and how he knew Aedion asked, “What about Oasis and how do you know about him and I?”37

“Aedion you need to listen when I say you can’t see that boy anymore, alright? He’s not a good person to be involved with.” Her father explained, “Him and his family are bad people, they are dishonest, backstabbing mean people who care nothing for other’s feelings. I just don’t want you getting hurt.”38

“How would you know what he is like? And what his family is like? How do you even know who he is? And you can’t tell me something like that about Oasis. Oasis is the best and sweetest guy ever. And I can see whom ever I please.” She cried and stormed out of the room. She was in utter disbelief of her father. 39

Aedion didn’t leave her room for the next three days. All she could think about was why or what could her father have against Oasis’s family. She lied in her bed wondering all too many thoughts at some points she really convinced herself if she thought anymore her head would burst. But oh course it didn’t; much to her dismay. Maybe if it did explode she would have something else besides Oasis to think about. 40

Back in Elysium our friend Oasis was feeling the same way as the young Aedion. He couldn’t get what his father had said out of his head. Aedion had been the perfect girl; she had perfect beauty and the greatest personality of any girl he had ever known. There was no way he could just stop talking and seeing her cold turkey. Even after only seeing her two times he was hooked on her. And though he knew so much about her, he seemed in those moments to know nothing at all in all the things he could know. And he wanted to know everything he could. Continuously he wondered if Aedion knew anything about what his father had said. She seemed to have no problem being with him so she must not have known. In order to figure out and satisfy his longing to see her all he had to think of was a way to get to Aedion without his father knowing. 41

Another three days passed before either Aedion or Oasis could figure out anything about how to see each other. On the evening of the fourth following night, Aedion decided to sneak out of her room and sneak away to see if she could find Oasis. No matter what her father said, she could not go on not being able to Oasis. The thought was utterly killing her. So she set her plan to action. She snuck out. 42

Soon she was on the once so lovely shore waiting and watching for a man she knew would surely never come to her side. She remembered the first time she had laid eyes on him; his figure, his smile and that laugh. How she loved his laugh, it was loud but not obnoxious, sensitive but not cynical. He had actually been the best guy she had ever known. He was different than every other guy. He seemed to truthfully like her for more than her beauty. He was interested in her dreams, hopes, and hobbies. And when she told him things he didn’t laugh like her other friends and other guys had. He seemed to have the same kinds of plans. But like hers, his were being smashed by the reality of the lives they were living. When you were royalty you couldn’t just go around having adventures and travel and do interesting things. When you were royalty you were expected to grow up, take on the responsibilities and lead a pretty much uninteresting, boring life until you had kids and passed the same fate to them. Aedion and Oasis both were sure they never wanted to be subjected to this torture. When Aedion had talked to Oasis it was the first time she had met someone who didn’t think like all the parents and nobles. He was like her; free spirited and adventurous. He was fun. He was willing to take risks and live life on the edge just like her. Oh how she wished there were more people like him. She suddenly felt this huge wave of loneliness sweep over her. She had to see Oasis again or she would surely die.43

Just as she was about to start crying she heard a familiar voice behind her. “Hey you…”44

She turned around and was overwhelmed by the figure of Oasis, standing in his white robe and golden sandals smiling at her and holding his arms out for her to jump into. And that’s what she did; she ran over and leaped into his arms. They both fell backwards into the sand. They laughed for a long time. “Wow I didn’t think I was going to see you again.” Aedion finally said looking deep into Oasis’s eyes.45

“I thought exactly the same thing. Wait why did you think that?” He asked suspiciously, wondering if he was not the only one who had heard about the terribleness of their encounters. 46

“Well actually when I went home last week my father told me I could never see you again. He said you and your family were dishonest, disloyal people. I didn’t and don’t know what he was talking about. Do you know what he meant?” She explained.47

“My father told me the same thing about you and your family. He forbid me to see again and said if I did I would regret it. He said we both would. But I couldn’t let some stupid fight between our fathers get in the way of us being together. Aedion I love you. I couldn’t stop thinking of you. Even though I don’t know you too well and you don’t know me so well I want to get to know you. I want to know everything I can about you. I can’t get you out of my head.” He turned his head away, waiting for her reply.48

He heard her let out a silent squeal of he was hoping joy. He turned around to be met by her face upon his. They laid there kissing for a long while, both not wanting to stop. For the thought passed through each of their minds that if their fathers got their ways this could be the only time they would ever see each other. When they finally stopped they both noticed two things. First it was very late and the sun was coming up and they were not alone on the beach. Aedion was the first to notice a dark figure looming about in the water about sis feet out. She knew immediately who it was. It was her father. No sooner had she noticed him there, she felt Oasis tense up and turned to meet his gaze, which was fixed on a tall, strong man hovering above them about five feet away. Neither father looked happy one little bit. Both Aedion and Oasis looked at each other and stood up, their hands together; both for comfort and because neither wanted to go through anything alone.49

Zeus was the first to speak and when he did he spoke with rage and utter disgust. “Oasis how dare you disobey me?! I thought I told you never to see this girl again.” 50

“Dad Aedion is not just any girl. Don’t do that don’t call her something less than what she is, which is the most beautiful, smart and creative girl in the whole world; the best thing which has ever happened to me and the love of my life. And I don’t care what you say you cannot keep me from her.” He stared at his father with anger and passion in his eyes. His grip tightened on Aedion’s hand. She could tell he was scared even after having just stood up and defended her against his father.51

She gripped his hand in return as her father, Poseidon emerged from the water where he had been wading watching the whole conversation. He immediately told Aedion to let go of Oasis and come to him, they were going home. He assured Zeus that he would never have to worry about his daughter bothering his son. Zeus sighed and told Oasis to come. So the two, Oasis and Aedion parted. 52

A couple weeks passed with torturing consequences in both youth’s lives. The possibility that lingered in Aedion’s mind that she would get to see Oasis again was slowly slipping with each new day. 53

It had been about four weeks since that one dreadful day when Aedion was able to escape her father’s watchful eye and steal away to the surface. She knew she didn’t have long before her father would realize where she was but she needed to find Oasis. It had been too long since she had seen him and couldn’t bare it anymore. As she walked about it began to rain. This lifted her spirits, she thought for sure that Oasis would have to come out and supply a rainbow. But she was wrong. When the rain stopped a new face appeared in the sky it was a girl, Aedion thought it must be Oasis’s twin sister. She began calling to her until she got her attention. She came down and stood in front of her. Aedion began asking her about Oasis, as it seems Iris was expecting. She told her immediately in the middle of Aedion’s pleading and worrying that Oasis was never going to get to see Aedion again, because her father, Zeus had banished Oasis to the underworld, to be with Zeus’s brother Hades God of the Underworld. He had banished Oasis when he had tried to escape to see Aedion. 54

After hearing this Aedion was absolutely nothing less than furious with Zeus and pleaded with Iris to take her to see him. She had a couple things on her mind that she wanted to get out in the open. Finally Iris agreed. She took her up to the Elysium, which was much larger and more magnificent than Oasis had ever described. She was struck with awe at the huge castles and arenas and palaces. Iris took her directly to the king’s throne room where she was brought in immediately.55

Aedion had originally on the way to the palace been planning her speech but once she was actually standing in front of Zeus her mind went completely blank. All she knew was her purpose and that was to get Oasis back. Of course this was easier said than done as she soon figured out. For Zeus was not one to take into consideration other people’s feelings and was very firm and never broke past decisions. 56

When Aedion began to plead her case to Zeus he wanted nothing to do with her. He didn’t seem to care the least bit that her world was falling apart without Oasis. And that she didn’t see anything wrong with what they had been doing. This lasted about one hour before Aedion began to realize what a hopeless cause this was proving to be. She finally began using a different method and that was screaming like a child and throwing the largest temper-tantrum that anyone in that kingdom had ever seen. This was when Zeus reacted. But not exactly at all in the way that Aedion had hoped. For not long after she had begun this wild affair did she notice something, Zeus and herself were not the only people in the room. Although she couldn’t see anyone else she could sense someone behind her. She turned around and saw something that would stay in her mind forever. It was the image of that same boy she had thought so beautiful, so handsome, now so different and horrible. She tried to turn away but felt a pressure around her not allowing her to move. All she could do was stare; stare at this horrible image. It was the image of Oasis being tortured by his uncle Hades; they were in the fiery pits of hell. She could see him screaming for mercy but Hades provided none. She began to cry. This is when Zeus spoke. “You now see what his punishment has been for disobeying…I now will give you yours. I am placing a curse on you that since you cried at the sight of Oasis, you will always cry at the sight of any man, you will weep uncontrollably. You will never fall in love again. No one will ever love you. I shall take away your beauty, for it has been nothing but your downfall. And as your last punishment you shall stay here in Elysium as my wife’s handmade. You will never leave this place. And anytime you try to escape or maneuver a way out of this punishment, Oasis will be tortured seven times as much as he is already. I want you to see what happens when you go against rules set thousands of years ago.”57

Aedion began to weep again. This time she cried not only for Oasis but for herself. All she had ever wanted was someone to love her for who she was. She wanted to have some adventure and live an exciting life. Was that too much to ask? She was so close to finding her perfect part, but by the time she realized what her persistence had caused it was too late. Her perfect man had been subjected to endless torture and she would live as an ugly, talent less handmade for the rest of her days.58

So now when you see the sky’s burst into rain you will know that it is not just one of life’s normal happenings, the rain is one girl’s tears. A girl so lovely, yet so cursed. Sitting and weeping for a love she will never find and a life she will never lead. 59
