running darkness intro and chapter 1

This is a tragic story. A teenage boy taking care of his brother while his mom is immobilized. Tragedy faces them and no one see it coming. The signs are there but will someone catch them in time, or will their lives be changed forever. Love and lost all combined into one heart felt story.1

Alex Starks stretched before her morning run. The sun barely peeked over the mountains. She had about thirty minutes to get the kids off to school. She checked her watch and took off in a run. Cars zoomed passed her. Soon the sweat beaded off her neck. Passing houses after houses she was about ten minutes away from her destination JoAnn's Tavern. She kept the pace as her breathing grew heavier. Sweat now poured down her face. The sun began to peek over the mountains. Then JoAnn's Tavern came into view. She quicken her pace. Cars passed her still. She reached the Tavern with a couple minutes to spare. She sat on the bench. The noise camae from behind her. She quickly jumped up to be greeted by nothing. 3

"Must've been my imagination."4

She stretched to head back to home to wake the kids and get them ready for school. She was bent over when someone came from behind hand knocked her over.5

The strong hand clasped over her mouth tightly. Then darkness began to call for her. She tried to remain awake. She struggled with her attacker. Then she felt the metal. Oh my it was a bat. The attacker swung it back and right into the side of her waist. She trembled with pain and let out a scream. Then the darkness completely enveloped her.
