We Write - A Sonnet by Grace

We Read, trying to impress our mothers.
We Read, entering neatly cut pages.
We Read, drinking in the work of others.
We Read, wandering through future ages.1

We Think, immersing ourselves in a dream.
We Think, storing ideas in our minds.
We Think, trying to decide on a theme.
We Think, breaking imagination's binds.2

We Write, grouping sentences into herds.
We Write, slashing characters in cold blood.
We Write, trying to breathe life to cold words.
We Write, waiting for our stories to bud.3

We Write, searching through garbage for rare gems.
We Write, hoping that someone will read them.

Author notes

I hadn't written sonnets for a long time, and I missed them. So I wrote one.
