Prologue2
Years ago the era where Greece was widely known, before the birth of Christ, there lived a young girl. She was known as the Night Seer. She had a mark of a Goddess, given to her by those upon Mount Olympia. They were the same mark given to her great ancestor, Pandora; the first female ever created. Though something else ran through her blood, filling her heart before it was pumped away to travel her body once again. It was the blood of evil, a power that consumed her heart every night when the moon wasn’t full -- this curse was given to her by Hekate, a goddess who turned dark, moving to live within Tartarus, a world were souls would become forever imprisoned. This place was evil laid even deeper thank Hades kingdom of the Underworld. 3
This young Goddess who’s heritage mixed to create a Night Seer, one who saw good, normally, but was only able to see at night, when her powers were on rampage against all. She was unable to control herself; she would do anything then wake up in the morning and not know she did it. Her name was Aradia, which in Greece meant Goddess of the Witch, and Arcadia surely was that.4
Through out her life she sought to find Hekate, a user of dark magic. Also the holder of Pandora’s Box, the box she sought to find so she could imprison all evil that had escaped with her ancestor had left them escape out of curiosity. Thought she had the blood of Hekate, she had to destroy her; this would destroy herself, her soul entwined with those of the Gods and Goddess that blessed her with the marks, the powers, all that was given to her.5
Before her life had ever ended, she had made it down to Tartarus, though she never escaped. She never was able to destroy the power of Hekate, nor find the box. Her mentor she had her whole life, the lady who was like her mother had done everything in her power to find her. Nothing ever came up. The only thing that no one had known was that Aradia had a daughter, one that kept the family blood line running. The blood line of Pandora, the gods, and Hekate, for centuries each member kept the duty to try to defeat the power of evil’s that roamed the world. The evil that consumed many souls to do Hekate’s bidding; the family was able to save the souls of the misfortunes, but never that of the soul of their own. Always their fates leaded them to Tartarus, where they would stay imprisoned for eternity. 6
-- End prologue --7
Aurora Dezel sat at her kitchen table, sighing softly to herself. She had been trying for the last few hours to under stand the Tarot cards her mother had given to her last year. She never felt the need to use them, but something within her heart lured her to them.8
“Ah! These don’t make sense!” She yelled at herself, in audible inside voice though. Though no one was home, she still tried to remain silent. Her father didn’t get home till later, and her mother had died 2 years ago. At least that’s what she and her father had been told. Though Aurora knew better, she had found out about the blood line that lay in her past. What allowed the powers she had to be used. It was all because of the ancestors she knew had been imprisoned down within Tartarus, the realm of Hekate, the evil which ran through her blood, giving her the ability of dark magic.9
She put the picked up the paper which had crease lines in it from the way it was folded into the small purple box. She began to read the direction one last time: 10
Directions:11
1. Holds the deck of cards face down and shuffle through them for about fifteen seconds. Don’t think of anything in particular. Keep your mind clear focus on the shuffling and nothing else.12
2. Using you left hand, cut the deck into four piles, moving from left to right as show below.13
3. Take the card from the far left, place it on letter A on the board14
4. Take the top card from the second card closest to the left, place it on letter B.15
5. Take the top card from the third card closest to the left, place it on letter C.16
6. Finally take the last top card from the last pile and place it on letter D.17
(A normally hints to something happening right now within your life.)18
(B refers to past problems or things that have happened in your life)19
(C often is to point things you should think about out.)20
(D suggests answers or courses of actions.)21
As she read she would stop at the end of each direction. At one she shuffled the cards face down, the purple florescent patterns on the back was all the watched, and she did this for the next fifteen seconds. Reading part two then putting the paper back down then put her left hand upon the back of the deck, thinking of nothing, her mind blank. Slowly she separated it into four smaller piles. 22
She then turned the paper over, and used the board on the back. Picking up a card on the left, using her left hand still, and then putting it on the letter A upon the board. She continued with this, moving down the line of cards, putting each card onto the letter she was told to from the directions. When she placed the last card down she looked over them, before taking out a small book that read “Tarot” on the front. Slowly she began to flip through the pages before she came to the first card which rested on the letter A, the Page of Cups. Then she began to read it out loud.23
“Page of cups:24
Now is the time to be independent. Friends and coworkers may not understand your feelings. Don’t let emotions over power you and don’t judge others too harshly. Patience wins in the end.” 25
She stared at the words for a second. This is what referred to something happening in her life right now. She rubbed her head some as she looked at it. “It’s completely true…. My friends don’t understand what I’m going through right now, and I can’t let my emotions take over me, they may be my demise if I do.” She whispered to herself. She never thought they worked, but her mother had always used them and they were what told her to do what she did. They told her to act now upon her emotions, to kill the evil of death.26
Then she looked to the second card, Death. She licked the tip of her finger than began to skim through the book slowly, reading over what it said, once again out loud:27
“Death:28
You are entering a growing phase. Acknowledgment comes slowly. No one will offer a helping hand unless you beg for it. Don’t take ‘no’ as a final answer. Avoid self-pity. Get rid of some old habits. Stop doing anything that doesn’t feel right to you.”29
A soft gasp escaped her lips at that, a breath flowing under her soft words. “Death…. I can’t self-pity myself over my mother’s death! I won’t let anyone take me down. I have to do this. I have to be the one to finally save this earth of the evil that floats around, and save the souls of my ancestors, so they can finally rest in peace in the Underworld. Not forever be tortured in Tartarus!” Though her voice was soft, she said it enthusiastically, she had to keep telling herself she would be the last, and that was her final resolution.30
She did this for the next card, one which should point out something she needs to think about: 31
“VII of swords:32
Pressures are on the rise. Don’t take on too much. Learn from the successes and failures of others.”33
This was something she knew she had to look at, she had to learn from the failures of her ancestors, of how they never made it out of Tartarus, and she had to find a way that would allow her to do this. Finally she looked at the last card, once again beginning to flip the pages of the small purple book, until she found the card she was looking at:34
“V of cups:35
Things are not what they seem. Keep your emotions in check. Beware of deception and illusion. Reinforce your beliefs with facts and demand the same of others. Take care of unfinished business”36
She nodded her head to this one, it referred to a course of action she had to take, “Oh I will finish the unfinished business I know of, I don’t care if it takes years, it will be done.” With one movement of her hand she moved all the cards into a pile, then picking them up and putting them back into the box they came from.37
Aurora got up from the stole she sat on, beginning to walk back to her room. Long black-blue hair she brushed off her shoulder, allowing it to cascade down to her center back. Then brushing the shorter sections of hair from her eyes, the icy blue eyes she had. Ones which gave her a look of darkness, almost as if she was a fallen angel; her beauty was unmistakable, angel or goddess like, yet the evil that flowed behind her eyes was like the river of souls in Hades realm.38
Entering her room, she looked around. The dark blue color of the walls seeming to make it look smaller than it was. A small sigh slipped through her parted lips, the soft pink lines which rested on her face. Going over to her bed she put the Tarot cards on the side-stand, then falling back onto her back closing her eyes. 39
Few moments passed of silence, before the phone in the kitchen began to ring. She made an almost growling noise as she got up, running down the short all to the kitchen, coming to stop, but sliding a few inches in the socks she had on. Quickly she moved to the counter her fragile hand rushing and grabbing the phone, holding it to her ear, “Hello, this is Aurora speaking.” 40
“Aurora, hey its Ryan, we have a problem, hurry up to my place fast!” The deep voice on the other-line was no doubt, Ryan, one of her closest friends, one of the few who knew about her heritage. 41
“Okay okay, what is it?” She asked him, a slight bit of nervousness could be hinted in her soft-gentle voice.42
“No time for that now, just hurry over here!” His voice on the other hand had the tone of panic in it.43
“Okay okay, I’ll be right there.” With that she hung up the phone and went over to the door, slipping the black Airwalk shoes of hers on. Then grabbing the door handle and opening it quickly and rushing out, her hand pulling the door as she did, a loud “thud!” echoed down the empty street she lived on as the door slammed shut. The air was thick with humidity, the normal weather for Californian day at that time, with it being spring, and all the spring showers that were falling around her. 44
She began to run down the road, Ryan only lived around two streets ahead of her. Slowly though she slipped into the forest, her body turning to a million particles, looking as dust in the wind. She began to fly through the shadows the trees, wondering what would make Ryan panic, he was normally the cool collective person in her group of friends. Something bad must have happened. 45
