The Swing Chapter Seventeen

Ace opened the door and looked confused at me and Clark standing there. "What are you - "2

"Good news, Chalice got Tom to come down here for spring break."3

"Thats in two weeks."4

"Yeah." Clark looked him like he should have said no duh, but left it alone. He pushed Ace a side and went in. Ace still looked confused. He stared at me for a moment and then like he completely forgot I was standing there he turned around and went up to Clark leaving the door to come right back at me. I pushed it open and stepped inside to find them talking a little louder then what I would consider talking level.5

"Clark, we havent trained her for anything. All we've done is get her to read the notebook. She's not ready. She cant act, her emotions show right through her, she doesnt know how to fight, I doubt shes ever touched a gun in her life." Gun? No, I wasnt touching a gun. Clark looked over at me and Ace stopped. I think he could tell I was questioning the gun, but then again he did say my emotions show right through me. "No, we dont use guns I was just trying to make a piont. My dads generation were the last ones to use guns." Yes, give me some type of relief, but thats not big enough. 6

"So all we do is train her in two weeks." 7

"eh." Ace was mad, he had his head in his hands again. I was beginning to learn that that was him thinking. "We have to, we dont have a choice on that." He looked over at me, I was just standing there confused, lost, unsure, wanting to back out.8

Ace's mom came in, "Whats all the fuss about?" her accent was so deep, some times I couldnt make out what she said.9

"Chalice has to learn how to do everything that took us a couple of years in two weeks, thanks to Clark over here." Ace gave Clark a mad look.10

Clark just looked back at him, "What you said take every chance we can get."11

"After Clark, after we trained her."12

"We take this as good as any, just train her." His mom was sweet, even under pressure.13

"Come with me." He started heading towards the basement door. I hadnt been down there, and I wasnt sure I wanted to be down there. The steps led down and turned to the left and then I saw it, the training area. I would be spending more time in here then I would be sleeping for the next two weeks.14
