Running From A Demon

Guenivive could only run.1

She ran as if being chased by some demon, a beautiful demon with a conflicted heart, that refused to stop chasing her. The sand under her feet flew behind her with enough force to crash a train, but she took no notice.2

"Guenivive..." 3

Came the voice from the demon, calling her name. In spite of the warning in her mind, her heart was trying to make her stop, trying to force an immediate pause, just long enough to make her feel her vulnerability. Suddenly, instead of being behind where he had been before, Armand was in front of her, arms open, grabbing Guenivive and capturing her from what she had so desperatly fled from.4

"Let me go..." 5

"NOOO!!! Listen to me..."6

"I have heard enough..."7

"You have heard nothing."8

Armand's voice reined over Guenivives. Guenivive stopped her struggle at the pleading look she saw in Armand's eyes. His hands had her upper arms in a tight grip, that he loosened quickly.9

"Guenivive, I..." Hesitating, he looked at the ocean. "Need you." He finished, his eyes hidden in the shadow cast by his hair. Guenivive tried to hide the surprise and confusion that threatened to burst onto her face, but Armand's confession wasn't finished yet.10

"I was a fool, an idiot to have ever cast you away. Your worth so much more to me."11

"What are you saying Armand?"12

"I am saying come back to me, allow me to care for you." Guenivive took a step away from Armand, and he made no move to stop her, as if for once he would not force her to be anything.13

"Armand, you said yourself that vampires are solitary creatures, and how can you care for someone who doesn't even know how to care for herself?"14

Armand was still hidden partly in the shadow of the moonless night.15

"I was wrong. Vampires cannot be solitary when the only thing they have to live for is there children, or in my case," the shadow across his face moved when he looked to Guenivive, "child." Guenivive felt herself drained. It was as if someone had pricked a needle into a bag full of her emotions, and they were all spilling out at once. She didn't know whether to be frustrated, happy, or sad. All she was, was confused. Armand could see this and he walked closer to her, but didn't dare touch her. 16

"'Your love is your healing.' Marius told me that." Armand smiled at the humor in the sentence.17

" That does sound like Marius." Guenivive said, adding to the chalkiness of the humor.18

"Well, here is what I say. Listen to what I have told you, and answer me this, what does your heart tell you?"19

Guenivive thought for a moment and looked into Armand's deep set eyes.20

"That is doesn't want to be hurt again."21
