The Little Black Case

Ben had a beautiful girlfriend named Jessica Waters. They had been going out for about three months and Ben was really happy. But Jessica wanted Oscar Gomez, Ben’s best friend. So she dumped Ben and got with Oscar two days later. Oscar was the most popular guy at Sea Pines High. But even though he seemed so happy, he wasn’t. He was traumatized because he had been beaten as a kid. So ever since then he had always been fake to the world.1

But something was odd about Oscar; he always carried a black case with him. No one knew what was in the black case. Some people thought it was expensive jewelry or some kind of drug. Most likely not drugs. The other thing was every now and then he would take it to the bathroom and come back looking like everything was perfect in the world. This had been going on since Junior High. No one thought much about it. 2

He’s not the only one who was troubled. Ben was miserable without Jessica. He told Oscar it was okay, but to Ben it was like Oscar stabbed him in the back. Ben became friends with Oscar’s half sister Crystal Crow. They hung out in and after school everyday. Everyone thinks they are going out but they are just friends, for now. A couple of days later Ben asks out Crystal. He doesn’t really like her like that but he just wants to know what is in that case Oscar carries around. 3

Ben didn’t really notice Oscar had that case as much but now he does. When Crystal invited him over, he found the black case in Oscar’s room, so he grabbed it. Ben took it into the bathroom and opened it. He saw a shiny black razor. Ben got really jealous or Oscar because he had Jessica. He thought that if Oscar had that razor maybe he was going to slit his wrists. Ben had very strange feelings and thoughts after that day. He wanted to kill Oscar with his own razor.4

He thought maybe Oscar wants to kill himself but was too afraid to. Three days after Ben went to Oscars and Crystal’s house he broke up with Crystal. His thoughts got stronger and stronger every time he saw or heard him. Ben knew the combination to Oscar’s locker, so one day he got into Oscar’s locker and got his black case and went to class. After school that day he saw Oscar go into the bathroom before his basketball practice. Ben walked in and waited for Oscar to get done.5

When he walked out of the stall Ben grabbed him, covered his mouth, and took Oscar’s razor and slit his throat. He dragged Oscar into the stall and bent him over the toilet and let him bleed. Ben washed Oscar’s blood off his hands and walked out of the bathroom. Leaving the little black box next to him, people thought he had committed suicide. No one knows if it was a murder or a suicide.6
