I'm running.1
It's clear, all clear. Everything's more in tuned to me than usual.
I can count the number of leaves on the tree to my right in a second, millisecond. I don’t even have to think about it, I just know.2
Ahhh, I'm dreaming. 3
I tell myself to keep calm, it's the only way I can keep from waking, and I definitely don't want to wake.4
"Tony, quick, we need to get up there!" yelled the dream figure of my friend.
I looked to him, then at the place he was pointing.
"why do we have to go up there?" I ask, wondering what we were supposed to be doing.
"Ahhh, you know why, quick!" He replied agitatedly, then set of running in the direction of the stairs leading to the sky.5
I smile to myself. What would make me dream this? I wonder whether or not to go along, or just change the dream entirely.6
I shrug my shoulders. I might as well see where this is leading.7
There's no need to take the stairs, this I know. So I crouch down, telling myself that when I jump, I will go all the way to the top of those stairs.8
Everything passes a blur. As soon as my feet leave the ground, I get a brief look at the shining white stairs before I'm standing at the top.9
As is the way with dreams. The streets I was just running down where disappeared, replaced instead with a lush greenland and forest.
I take a breath, and a sense of well being fills me. It's like I'm connected to the tree's. I can see them, smell them, taste them.10
Anything I need to know is there for me to take, because this is my dream, and in my dream, I control everything.11
A noise from beside me makes me turn.12
Standing tall at the exit from the stairs is a large, masculine figure holding a sword.
"And who are you?" I asked amused. "My executioner?"13
The only reply was a deft swivel and swerve, the sword biting deeply.14
Stupid dream man, who does he think he is, this is my dream.15
Even though it's a dream, the lancing strike from the sword felt real enough. I told myself there was no pain, and there was not.16
"Now you listen to me, this is my dream, and your ruining it."17
I made a dismissive gesture with my hand, thinking the medieval warrior gone.18
But he was more persistent than i gave him credit for, or I was losing my touch at dream control.
Seeing the large bearded man still staring menacingly made me feel uncomfortable. Always before I've had total control.19
He moves quick, but this time I'm ready. I can see him coming as if in slow motion, and toss him negligently into the corner.20
"Now will you bloody leave me alone? I haven’t got much longer left, and as I said before, your ruining it."21
Both our heads turn to the sound of footsteps.22
My friends come up the last flight of stairs, now four instead of one.23
"You took your time." I said. "You could have just jumped you know."24
All four nod in unison. It's then that I notice the four metallic black blades held in their hands.25
"And what do you need those for?" I asked confused.26
"To make you jump." Came the reply from four recognisable voices.27
Knew I should have changed it at the beginning.28
"Your meant to be on my side. But it doesn't matter, this is my dream, not yours."29
I use a technique long since learned for helping me to change things.30
I close my eyes. Picture a black room, and add light, a door.
Then move forward and through the door, to the road that my house is on, then close the door.31
I think to myself what a weird little episode that was.
But it doesn't matter, I've still got time, and there's other things I want to do.
