In the stillness of winter, a cry rang through the trees. Leaves rustled as heavy footfalls made echoes of their own. A figure ran clumsily out of the darkness. With fear overpowering her will, she would never be able to win this race. Focus, Audrey, she quietly instructed herself. Focus! Finally, she reached her destination. Bursting through the door, she winced as shattered pieces of wood clouded her vision. With a swift flick of the wrist, she turned on a light.1
"JAKE?!"2
"What?"3
"We need to leave...now."4
"Now?"5
"NOW!"6
"Okay!"7
"Get the bags, kid." They were already packed in case this might happen.8
"What about mommy?"9
Damn, she thought.10
"Lets go, Jacob."11
"What...about...mommy?"12
"Lets go."13
"BUT WHAT ABOUT..." He never finished his sentence because they heard whispers and her hands closed over his ears as the screaming began.14
Audrey and Jacob were alone.
