Looking for my Life- George Harrison

I am writing about the song "Looking For My Life" from the 2002 George Harrison album Brainwashed. It is my favourite song because it does something that no other song can do...It gives me a true smile when I think of a dear friend who is no longer with us. She loved the song also...I understand it more now. "Oh boy, you've no idea what I've been through." I get it now, I understand every word, although the second verse never fails to remind me of the ending: "Had no idea that I was heading, toward a state of emergency, I had no fear where I was treading, I only found it out when I was down upon my knees, looking for my life."
This song speaks to me in a way that no other song does, and describes the difficulties which I have faced and overcome in learning to accept that manure happens, people come into our lives, people leave...often when we don't want them to. From the opening notes of the guitar riff, I recognise the song, and I smile. That's got to be what life's about, right? That's what this song is about for me- smiling and remembering.
The ending I wrote of was difficult, not because of any particular part of it, but because it was an ending. Unless it's a fairytale, endings can be overwhelmingly sad...this song makes that ending less so.
The lessons that this song taught me reinforce those which Chris taught me, and remain a source of inspiration, and a reminder that I must continue to learn about what this journey takes, so far, I've learned that it takes guts to avoid turning and running, even when the worst is obviously going to happen. "Looking for My Life" is about trying to find some normality in chaos...and that's what it's helped me to do. Therefore, it's my favourite song.
