"A hundred years its been, a hundred years since the land has last seen the light of day. I was just a pup at the time when it happened, but I remember it like it was just last year. I remember the ground being soaked in the blood of thousands who howled up to the moon pleading the gods and goddesses to end the madness, but the battle continued for days on end. My father was one of them, he was one of the wolves in the pack that took on the duty to protect our land and lost his life to the ones who served Phantom in the battle." Conal sighed as he looked down at the pups that were gathered around him and then he raised his head to the moon in the sky. His gleaming white coat making him show up easily as his blue patch of fur shaped like a lightning bolt on his left shoulder slightly glowed.
"You were there? What was the sunlight like? Did we win the war?" A little female pup named Shynii asked in a squeaky tone of voice. "What was the war even about? Tell me more Mr. Conal please please please!"
"Heh, little one don't you think you have had enough for the night? It is way past your bed time you know, also I do not think that your parents would want me to be telling you about the war until you are older. You are still young after all, and the war is not something I can just explain to you," Conal nudged Shynii and smiled softly. "Now off to bed, you best not stay up too late."
Shynii whimpered as she wanted to hear more about the great battle that went on years ago between the gods and goddesses along with the rest of the land. She how ever did not argue with Conal. Conal after all was the alpha of the pack she and her family were in and it would probably bring them trouble if she did argue with him. Shynii looked over at the other pups that were there too and they all started to slink off back into their dens with there parents watching them carefully. Shynii smirked as she looked around and saw her family up ahead. She raised her tail high and pinned her ears back as she walked into her den.
"I will one day be a great warrior," She remarked to herself as he parents just shook their heads. Shynii tripped on a rock causing her to roll into her den like a little ball until she hit the back wall of the den and she just lied there for a moment and she sighed loudly. "I am OK!"
Conal shook his head with a little laugh as he had been watching from a distance away from the den. He pinned his ears back as he slowly began to walk off away from them with a smile on his face. He was in a really cheery mood. He sat down and looked up at the moon and his smile vanished just as fast as it had appeared on his face. He stared up at the moon as he sighed and then began to howl up loudly at the stars and moon above. Within minutes the entire pack land had joined in the howl with their echoing songs surrounding the lands. The mountains that surrounded the valley kept their noise within the valley only except for the south of the land where there was no mountains, nothing was there at all except vast lands of desert. Many miles out threw the desert far off there is a cave that has been there for thousands of years. It was created by the goddess Shakti as a hide out and soon became the resting place of the gods and goddesses when the battle was finally to an end between them.
Conal growled silently to himself as he lowered his head and turned his right ear to the side as he heard the sound of nearing footsteps growing ever so close to him. He sat down and watched in the direction they were coming from awaiting to see the source of the noise unsure if it was friend or foe. An all black wolf stepped out of the shadows and into the moonlight he too had a blue lightning bolt shaped patch of fur, though his was on his right shoulder and it was faintly glowing in the light the closer he stepped toward Conal. Conal sighed out of relief as he was happy to see it was only his brother Akil. Akil had a slight grin on his face as he stepped to one side of Conal and sat down with his head held high and his ears pinned back. Conal tilted his head and slightly growled as he did the same.
"Conal, you should not be out here alone. Its dangerous for you out here. What would the pack do if they were to loose you?" Akil growled slightly at his brother. "You best be going back now, you know father would not like to find out that you left the pack like this."
"Well father is not alpha now is he.?." Conal stood up and turned his back to Akil and started to slowly walk away from him. "I am alpha, I can do as I wish!"
"You are such a foolish alpha! Your attitude would drive the pack into the ground!" Akil argued.
"I will not drive the pack into the ground, and its not like you are alpha. You don't have the right to order me around now do you brother?" Conal stood his ground as he turned his head a little gazing at Akil from the corner of his eye.
"Brother? You call me brother, but you treat me as your enemy! I don't have the slightest clue as to why I am even in this pack!"
"Ha! You seem as though you think you could beat me in a fight!" Conal smirked with a growl.
"I could beat you with my eyes closed... Brother." Akil stood up and growled at him with a smirk on his face too.
"Gather the pack," Conal demanded Akil. "It is on!"
Conal stared directly into Akil's eyes as Akil just slowly turned and ran off to gather the pack. Conal sighed as he looked down at the ground and closed his eyes as many thoughts just flooded his head. What am I doing... Fighting my own brother in a battle to be alpha? Maybe he's right, maybe I am just driving my pack into a grave? He just thought to himself for a moment and then shook his head and ran off back to his pack. He growled as he saw that Akil had the pack already gathering around him. Half the pack was cheering Akil on, while the other half looked upset and you could see the fear in their eyes as they did not want Conal to loose to Akil.
"Ok, I got the pack gathered. Now are you ready to loose your pack?" Akil smirked evily with rage in his eyes.
"Ready as I will ever be!" Conal said with a shaking tone of voice.
Akil ran at his brother and slammed right into his chest throwing him backwards. Conal stumbled to the ground, but jumped up as fast as he could and he jumped at Akil. Akil dodged his attempt to slam into him and then jumped at Conal's side and grabbed a hold of his neck. Blood spilling from his neck as Akil would not let go and just tried to apply more pressure as he held onto him. Conal howled out in pain as he tried to wiggle his way out of Akil's grip though he could not get him to let go.
Shynii was standing back away from the fight with her mother and father watching the dreadful fight over the alpha position. She did not want to see Conal loose the pack, and seeing the fight brought tears to her eyes that ran down her face onto the ground below her. She hated seeing them fight, and feared the worst could happen. Shynii lowered her head and she rushed out right up to Akil smack in the middle of the fight. She bite down on Akil's back leg hard as she could.
Akil's eyes widened as he slamed Conal into the ground and then knocked Shynii off of his leg and he looked at her carefully as he slowly walked toward her snarling loudly at her. Shynii was just low to the ground as she possibly could get with terror in her eyes she placed her tail between her legs and backed up slowly. Akil did not seem to care and he opened his jaw and snatched her up in his mouth as he threw her across the ground and Shynii's head slammed into a rock hard as blood quickly started to cover the ground around where she lay motionless.
"Shynii!!! No!!!" Shouted her mother in a horrified voice.
Conal lifted his head slowly off the ground as his vision was going blurry, but he could make out the shapes and noises to notice Shynii laying on the ground and members of the pack gathering around the small pup with horrified and unharmonious looks on their faces. He turned his head to Akil who seemed to have little care that he had severely injured the pup badly and that she was drifting off into a deep sleep to never wake again.
"Brother.... What have you... Done?" Conal growled frustratingly at him. "She was just a pup!"
"She should have known better then to rush out into the middle of a fight. She got what she deserved!"
"She was a pup! You can not just go around killing pups or anyone else for that matter! You are just like father!"
"I am nothing like father..." Akil snarled as he fur was covered in sweat and smoke was coming off of him.
"Yes you are! You are a cold blooded killer!" Conal protested. The pack continued to try and help Shynii best they could and tried to comfort the mother as part of them kept their eyes on Akil and Conal while growling angrily at Akil.
"I am leaving now. Those that agree with me come now or be stuck with Conal and his pack. Which would be a mistake." Akil snorted at Conal and then turned around holding his tail and head high as he slowly walked off with pride for who he was.
Conal looked around as his jaw dropped and his eyes were big as part of his pack was leaving. They were following Akil off into the forest on their own. Conal could not believe that part of the pack would actually agree with Akil. Akil was just one to worship Phantom, the god of all evil who was but a mere murderer all evil without even a passion of caring if anyone died, family even. A sharp pain shot threw Conal as his lightning bolt patch of fur started to glow and he fell to the ground growling in pain. He shook his head as he tried to get his mind off the pain and he forced himself back up onto his feet with blood rushing from his wounds. He slowly walked over to Shynii and he looked down at her.
"How is she doing?" Conal asked the wolves gathered around her.
"Not too good, if she is not healed soon she might never heal... She will be lost like all the others end up..." Exclaimed a member of the pack named Tao. Tao was well known for his ability to be able to read minds and thoughts of others that are within the distance of five miles. He was an all white wolf, there was not one other color to his fur. During winter time he blends in perfectly making him almost impossible to see.
"Alright..." Conal nodded to Tao and the others as his eyes glowed brightly and so did Shynii as her wounds quickly healed that she had and they started to reappear on Conal. Conal dropped to the ground instantly as his eyes stopped glowing and so did Shynii. Shynii opened her eyes slowly as she saw Conal laying their by her on the ground soaked in blood as his breathing was fading.
"Conal!" Shouted Shynii in a terrified voice as she crawled over to him and huddled next to him best she could while tears were falling from her eyes fast. "I am sorry.... I am sorry please don't leave me..."
Shynii's mother walked up behind Shynii with tear filled eyes. She picked up Shynii and started to carry her back to her den to give Conal some alone time so that he could heal his wounds and get some rest. Shynii struggled in her mothers jaw trying to get down so that she could stay with Conal, but her mother would not let her go she just placed her in the den and kept her from running out there on her own.
Conal just lay there motionless on the ground as he stared at his pack with tear filled eyes of fear. He could not believe that he almost let Akil just kill Shynii, when he thought of Shynii as his daughter though she was not. I am falling apart. My life, my friends... Everything is not as what I thought it out to be. What am I to do? Conal sighed as he closed his eyes and slowly drifted off into a deep sleep. Rain starting to pour down from the sky around him though he slept threw it.
Conal slowly awoke to the sound of lightning striking down a tree near by the pack. He forced himself to stand up as his wounds had almost fully healed themselves thanks to his ability to heal any kind of wound as long as he had enough time for it to do so. He looked around as the pack all gathered round and started to panic trying to find out what they should do. The tree had caught on fire and the fire was starting to spread fast. The pack let out howls and growls as they all started to run off. Conal howled up to the sky telling his pack to head south away from the fire fast as they could not knowing what else to do. The pack members all took off running and Conal kept his eyes on them all making sure that they all were out for sure.
"Help! Help please, some one!" Cried out Shynii's mother from her den she was in trying to get out but another tree had fallen down over the den blocking her and Shynii both in the den. She whimpered as she tried to push the tree off of the door of the den, but it was no use. Shynii tried to cover her muzzle as the smoke was coming into the den and it made it hard for her to breath as well as see.
Conal's ears went straight up as he looked over and saw the fallen down tree and heard the screams and coughs from inside it. He ran straight over and tried to avoid the fire best he could as he tried to dig a way out of the den for them but could not it was too difficult to get around the fire and smoke.
"Do not worry I will find a way to get you out of there!" Conal shouted over the crackling fire as he looked around trying to figure out something though he had no idea what he could even do. He dug a hole in the doorway that was big enough for Shynii to fit threw. "Hand me Shynii, she should be able to get outa there threw the hole!"
Shynii's mother shoved her threw the hole and Conal ran her over away from the fire and then ran back as he tried to widen the hole best he could so that the mother could get out also. Shynii just stood back and watched as she kept coughing taking in all the smoke made her stomach ache and it was hard for her to breath. She lied down as she felt so weak from it that she felt she could just drift off to sleep. Conal looked back at Shynii and growled as he did not know what to do he went back to digging and struggled to dig it any wider. He barked to the mother to try and fit her way threw the hole, and the mother tried best she could but she could not fit. She made it half way threw and ended up caught underneath. Conal's eyes widened as he tried to pull her threw but she could not me moved out any farther. A bolt of lightning struck another tree near them that started to fall. Conal's eyes widened as the tree was falling down right atop him and the stuck mother.
The mother's eyes widened also and she tried to force Conal to get back away from her or he would find himself severely injured or worse if he just stay there. Conal refused to move though and he stayed right by her as the tree grows a few inches away from decapitating him he found himself thrust backwards away from the tree by another wolf. As he slammed into the ground he felt his leg snap and he whimpered out in pain loudly, his eyes wide like an owl.
Conal whimpered as he struggled to stand up and it hurt to put any pressure on his front right leg, he knew that his fall had broken it from the way he had landed when he was thrown back. He looked over at the fallen down tree and saw the paw from the mother sticking out from under the tree, but that wasn't all he saw. There was another wolf pinned under the tree. A male wolf, he seemed to be about 2 years of age by the way he looked and he had brown fur, but his chest and legs were black and the tip of his tail was red. Conal limped over to the tree while he let out low growls of pain as he moved. He sniffed the male trying to figure out who he was though he had no idea who the wolf was, knowing he was not a member of his pack Conal did not know if he should leave or try to help the pour male after all the male had saved him.
The male slowly opened his eyes and looking up at Conal he let out a low growl as he went to stand the heavy tree was on him though and the male did not seem to notice the weight of the tree. Conal took a step back watching the male carefully studying him as though he was unsure if the wolf was friend or foe. The male slowly pushed up on the tree and the tree seemed to move off of him very easily as the male held it up and then jumped out from underneath it. The tree slammed back down on the ground causing the ground to faintly vibrate under their paws. Conal just stood there watching the male in astonishment.
"Best not stand around here eh?" The male said as he ran over to Shynii and picked her up and placed her on his back as he took off running. Shynii held on best she could while she tried to remain conscious. "Hurry up old man!" He shouted back at Conal.
Conal shook his head and growled as he tried to run, but it was hard putting pressure on his broken leg. The bone was trying to push its way threw the skin with every step he took. He growled out in pain as he shook his head trying to keep up with Shynii and the unknown male that had came out of nowhere it seemed. The male seemed unaware of how hurt Conal was though Conal was just pretty sure that the male had little care that he was. Conal slowed down as they came to the edge of the mountains to the west of the land. Conal laughed slightly to himself at the thought that the male could be so foolish to think that Conal could make it up the mountains with a broken leg. The male just started to walk up with Shynii still holding onto him best she could, he looked back at Conal.
"Well come on old man, can not stop now! We will be safer up atop the mountains!" The male said to Conal in a sure tone.
"You foolish pup! How the hell am I supposed to climb with my broken leg? The bone is about to punch threw as it is!" Conal growled.
"uh...?" The male had no idea what to say back.
"That's what I thought. Also my name is not 'old man' its Conal, I am not even that old." He had mumbled that last part to himself as he lied down growling as he tried to place his leg on the ground.
"If we stay here the fire will claim you! We must keep going. We can find some where to rest when we are at the top! You can not just give up and stay here!" The male protested.
"What do you expect me to do? Fly to the top?" He asked sarcastically.
"I will carry you if I half too, but you are not staying here. Now get up!"
Conal looked at the male with amazement in his eyes, not believing the male would just talk to him like that. He growled as he tried to stand up and he limped up the mountain, but it was too steep for one with a broken leg to climb. He kept slipping back down. The other male just went behind him though and tried to help him climb best he could as he tried to talk him threw it in a bossy tone like he was ordering him to go though he was not.
"Come on, you can do it! You can not stay back there, the fire will claim you as its own if you do! You must keep moving!" The male shouted at him repeatedly. Hours seemed to half past by them as they slowly made their way up the mountain though the male did not leave Conal behind. He remained by his side trying to help him to safety. Feeling that it was the right thing for him to do. When they finally did make it to the top the male led Conal into a cave where Conal lied down against the wall and growled in pain again as he then tried to clean his leg.
"Why did you help us?" Conal asked as the male placed Shynii down next to him and walked over to the door of the cave and sat down.
"I was around the land when the fire started and I saw everyone running out of there, as I was trying to go in this direction, but I saw you trying to help that female and the tree falling down upon you. I just did not think that I should just leave you to die when you could not save the one you were trying. That was just suicide you were attempting you know.?." The male answered as he lied down.
"Suicide? She was a member of my pack, and it is my job to protect the pack!"
"Your job is not to kill yourself trying to save some one that can not be saved!"
"Its-" Conal found himself cut off.
"I do not know this pack, but I doubt that the pack wants you dead like that! You saved the pup and the mother had no way of being saved, what were you supposed to do!?!"
"I could have found a way!"
"I am going to sleep good night." The male said as he curled up in a ball and closed his eyes. "Also, one more thing my name is Cranenii."
"Whatever..." Conal said as he looked at Shynii and sighed happy to at least have her by his side right now. He missed having the rest of his pack near him and hoped that some where out there his pack was safe with Tao.
