Drama at West High; Chapter 3: Assembly

Narrator: You can be sure that there was more mean girls and boys at the school. There were many more. But there were some other nice kids at the school. Some of the boys even liked Marissa, secretly of course.2

Haliry: Okay girls let’s show them what we’ve got so we can try to get some people to come to the cheerleading tryouts today.3

Tara: Okay!4

Stella: One Sec. (Fluffs hair and touches up make-up.)5

Brenda: Okay we’re all ready Hilary.6

Hilary: Okay come on. (Walks out onto ball court.) (Perkily.) Rah, rah, rah! Go, go, go team! Oh, oh, oh team! Give me a Z! Give me an E! Give me a B! Give me an R! Give me an A! What’s that spell? ZEBRA! Go ZEBRA’S!!7

Marissa: Why do we have to watch this every stinking day at assembly?!8

Nick: I don’t know but I think it stinks!9

Alyssa: I know!10

Joe: Well at least it’s over.11

Lucas: I wouldn’t be to sure about that. Look. It looks like the Hilary has an announcement.12

Marissa: (Sarcastically) Goodie, goodie gum drops!13

Hilary: As you all know the cheerleading tryouts are today! Please come try out during free period! The rules are on the poster outside the gym! The results will be posted on the bulletin board on Friday!14

Alyssa: Wouldn’t it be funny if we tried out and then actually got in?!15

Marissa: Want to try? Just for a prank of course!16

Alyssa: Sure! You guys want to come watch?17

Dylan: Sure. But what happens if you 2 actually make it in?18

Marissa: Are you kidding there’s no way they’d even consider even letting me on the team!19

Alyssa: And they won’t let me on since I’m her friend.20

Micha: But what if they do let you on as prank?21

Alyssa: We won’t actually go on even if we get accepted!22

Marissa: Well…23

Joe: What do mean well?! They make fun of you! You wouldn’t actually want to hang out with them would you?24

Marissa: Well the way I see it no except us ever makes fun of the cheerleaders and you guys wouldn’t make fun of me. Would you? I mean I would stay my old self, I would just have stay after school for a little while each day. I would still hang out with you guy like we do now. I’m just so tired of being made fun of. It hurts.25

Zander: Of course we wouldn’t make fun of you! I can understand how you feel. I’m tired of being made fun of just because I’m you’re friend to!26

Marissa: That’s not the same as being made of just because your you Zander and if your so tired of it maybe you should just stop being my friend! (Gets up and runs away trying her best not to cry.)27

Zander: Marissa wait!! I didn’t mean it like that!! Please come back!!28

Tommy: Dude she’s too far she can’t hear you.29

Zander: Uh!! I’m so stupid!! How could I just stand there right in front of her and say that?!30

Alyssa: Zander let me go talk to her. I’ll explain to her that you didn’t mean it as an insult and that you didn’t mean that you don’t want to be her friend anymore.31

Zander: Okay.32

Alyssa: (Runs after Marissa.)33

Zander: Uh!! What am I going to do if this doesn’t work?! What if Marissa doesn’t want to forgive me?! What if she doesn’t want to be my friend anymore?! (Under breath) What is she never like likes me? (Tears coming to eyes.)34

Joe: It’s going to be okay Zander! What was that last part?35

Zander: Nothing! It was nothing!!36

Tommy: Tell us now!37

Zander: I already told you it was nothing!38

Micha: Tell us! What’s so bad about it?!39

Zander: No! It’s private!! It was nothing!!40

Dylan: Tell us what it was!! We want to know!!41

Zander: For the last time it was nothing!!42

Joe: Then why won’t you tell us?!43

Tommy: Yhea! If it was nothing you wouldn’t mind telling us!44

Mich: Yhea that’s true!!45

Dylan: Don’t deny that it was something! If it wasn’t you’d tell us what it was!46

Zander: Fine it was something!! But it was private and I won’t tell you!47

Joe: Fine. You don’t have to tell us.48

Zander: Thank you.49

Joe: You’re welcome… I just thought that since you were our best friend you would be willing to tell us.50

Zander: Uh-uh guilt tripping me isn’t going to work Joe.51

Joe: Dang it! That usually works!52

Zander: Not with me, whenever you try it with me it never works!53

Joe: Oh yhea I forgot that little detail.54

(Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng!)55

Tommy: Well we better get to class!56

Narrator: So Zander escaped that one without telling his real feelings to the guys. But Marissa was having a hard time believing what Alyssa was telling her. She felt that Zander hated her! If only she knew his real feelings for her it might have saved their friendship!
