A Feather Flies On!

Mercury fell, and hit the ground with a loud BOOM! She stumbled to get up, but to no avail. Once she finally got to her feet, she tried to rush herself from out of the forest to the small village she knew was nearby. 1

“Almost there,” she breathed to herself. “Ah,” she seared, falling to her knees.2

“Are you ok?” asked a voice. 3

Mercury looked up at the person, but her vision was going black, and she fainted. 4

Mercury’s eyes fluttered open, and she jolted up. 5

“What!” she yelled, looking around.6

The sheets that had been on Mercury fell to her waist. She looked down and saw crimson red silk sheets.7

“Where am I?” she asked, looking around.8

There was a window door, leading to a balcony, and the room was full of Victorian furniture.9

“Hello,” said a voice, a person coming through the door.10

Mercury quickly looked up.11

“Who are you?” asked Mercury, getting up. 12

“My name is Devin,” answered the boy.13

He was tall, and lanky, with silver hair, and he had blue eyes.14

“Hi,” smiled Mercury, letting her guard down a little. 15

“What’s your name may I ask?” 16

“Mercury,” she answered, getting up. “Ah,” she seared, falling over again.17

“Be careful!” shouted Devin, quickly catching her.18

“Thanks,” smiled Mercury, pulling herself up. 19

Mercury took her time, and balanced herself against one of the four poster bed poles. She breathed heavy, but tried not to allow herself to faint…again. 20

“You ok?” asked Devin.21

“Yeah,” nodded Mercury.22

As she finally balanced herself, she looked both ways, and quickly made a run for the balcony. She quickly flung open the doors, and jumped onto the edge, holding her breath she jumped off. Mercury closed her eyes, and two red wings unfurled from her back. Here fifteen foot wingspan grew close to the ground, and Mercury opened her eyes.23

“Why aren’t I flying!” she shouted.24

Just as she was about to hit the ground, someone caught her. She opened her eyes and looked up to see Devin. 25

“Are you sure your ok?” he asked. 26

Mercury looked down, her face pink. 27

Devin brought her into the house, and he placed her down on the couch. 28

“Thank you,” said Mercury, smiling up at him.29

“No problem, but can I… have a favor?” asked Devin. 30

“Um…what?” Mercury asked.31

“A kiss,” said Devin, reaching down and planting his lips on hers.32

Mercury looked up at him wide eyed, but then slowly let her eyes shut.33

“NO!” shouted Mercury, jolting up.34

She wiped the dirt from her eyes, and the blood from the side of her mouth.35

“Devin!” she shouted, looking at his body hanging from the trees. 36

“Why!” she screamed up. 37

Mercury started to run, something chasing behind her. It snarled and threw down trees, as it made it’s way towards her. Mercury smiled, seeing an old abandoned house. She quickly made her way through the door. The creature tried to get through the doorway but got flung back by a curse. 38

As Mercury stumbled into the living room, she threw herself onto the couch. She smiled triumphantly and unfurled one of her wings. Hidden amongst her feathers was a little baby. 39

“Hello,” smiled Mercury.40

The little silver haired child looked up at her and smiled.41

A tear streamed down Mercury’s cheek. She was quickly disrupted when the snarling beast outside jumped at the doorway again.42

Mercury placed the child down, got up, and headed out the door. 43

“Die demon!” shouted Mercury, charging at it.44

She gave it all she got, but it gave her one hit, she hit a tree and started coughing up blood.45

“Goodbye,” she mumbled, the color from her eyes fading.46

The little baby lied on the couch crying, listening as the monster ran away, back through the forest. 47

“Through here!” said a voice. 48

A man and woman both walked through the doorway, and walked into the living room. 49

“Aw!” said the woman, looking at the child. “He looks abandoned,” she said.50

“Let’s take him back with us,” said the man.51

The woman nodded in agreement, walking out with her husband.52

“He looks like a… Devin,” she smiled.53

The child looked at the couple and giggled.
