The Green Men, Prologue.1
The men piled into the meeting room, some wearing army uniforms, some in suits, and all getting ready for the main project to be presented to the military. There was one man in a white lab coat, with a large brief case, and spidery scar on his rights side of his face. An old man with more medals on his uniform than all the other men sat down first in a large chair at one end of the long table, and then everyone else sat down, and waited.2
“Dr. Bush, could you please show us what you propose we do with this quarter’s money.” said the old man.3
“Yes sir.” said the man in the lab coat, getting up, and walking to the front of the room, he put a disk into a DVD player. The wall lit up, and Dr. Bush began: “Everyone knows that plants are good for the body.” A picture of produce flashed behind him on the wall. “The benefits of eating fruit and vegetables are longer life, more energy, and fewer wrinkles as you grow older.” A picture of two happy old people in rocking chairs flashed on the wall/screen. “But what if we were part plant? We would probably eat less, if we could achieve photosynthesis. We would consume carbon as well as oxygen, cleaning the air, and we would be stronger, image being an oak, weathering a thunder storm…”4
“Get to the point, Dr. Bush.” said the old man. 5
“I have done research, on rats that proves that this is possible, to bond animal and plant!” said Dr. Bush, pictures of greenish rats was shown. “The process is simple, combine plant and human embryos, by gene splicing, and giving the eggs to infertile mothers, then we track the children, and retrieve them for further testing. From there, you can start a breeding program, and make an army of unstoppable plant men!”6
“The Idea is too farfetched for me, you clearly have evidence of your test, by you pictures, but this will be long term, and we can’t supply you forever.” said a man in large glasses. 7
“Once I get the first funds, a portion will be put into investments to continue the project, if you can’t give money to us.” replied Bush “My plan is very sound, and I was here by the general’s request.”8
Every one gazed at him. “Most were thinking `This guy MUST have something to look at here…` while Glasses and some others were thinking `this is crazy, the general must be out of his mind`. The old man said “I think this has potential, and you would too, if you saw the rodents he made.” 9
“Thank you, General Murdock.” Said Bush, and he pulled out a cage from under the table. “These are the surviving test subjects, come take a look.” 10
The men ran up in disorder, looking like children, trying to see what was inside the cage. Inside, were three rats, each looked a little different. One looked more, woody than the others, with what appeared to be bark. Another looked like grass, bright green fur all over its body. And the last one was leafy; it didn’t have fur, but lots of little leaves all over it. 11
"Mutants, yes, unhappy mutants, absolutely not!" said Dr. Bush, with a smile he continued "The rat make their own anti-oxidants, so they live a lot longer that normal rats, and they can lift many times their own weight. They camouflage so well, that we put snakes in there cage with a bunch of plant lie, and even know they smelled the rats, they couldn't find them! These qualities can be put into mankind, too." 12
Everyone was sold. they all loved the idea, and the finance officers wanted to know when they could give him the first check, but Glasses, his name was General Dickens, was not convinced. 13
"This could really back fire, what if the public finds out! There would be a mass uproar, and we would all be out of jobs! It's just wrong, anyway." said Dickens. Dr. Bush had put the rats away, and everyone was sitting down, making the decision. 14
"But if you don't except, he might go somewhere else to do this, project, would we want china to have these super solders?" said a man across from Dickens.15
"We don't even know if this will work!" said a man farther down the table.16
"Alright," said Murdock "the only way we'll come to an agreement is if we take a vote; raise your hands if you want this project!" All most everyone at the table raised their hands.17
"Alright, we will say yes to Dr. Bush and his associates." said Murdock.18
“This is a mistake!” yelled Dickens, jumping out of his chair. “Gene splicing, especially in this manner, is WRONG!” He stormed out of the board room, and ripped of his medals, and yelled down the hall “I will not serve a government that dose sick genetic experiments!”19
“Take him out,” said Murdock. “He’ll tell the media.” Three men got up, guns in hand, and ran down the hall way. 20
“You’ll never catch me!” said Dickens, running as fast as he could, bullets barely missing him. He turned to the left; the men followed, and came to a hall with no doors, and an open window.21
“Shit!” exclaimed the leading man. “He won’t get far, alert the guards!”22
But he was long off the base when the guards came looking, and all he wanted was to help the poor victims, knowing that he wouldn’t be able to hide if he told anyone, he would do his best to keep the army of their trails. That day started a rock slide that would destroy everything, but the trees.23
