Carron had been crouched a good distance off, watching, when the battle took place and when he returned to Mistress Cougra's camp he, again, had bad news.1
"They slaughtered our men. We didn't have a chance," he informed the Mistress.2
Cougra sighed. "Then I guess we'll have to try something else.. with a different leader."3
Her eyes hardened and she glared threateningly at Carron. "You obviously cannot be trusted with the simple task of capturing these two travellers. Pack your things and depart from this place."4
The way the corners of his mouth fell slightly, the look in his eyes, was almost enough to make her reconsider her decision to get rid of him... Almost. She had as much duty to her master as Carron had to her. She must follow the Captain's orders.5
"Yes, Mistress cougra. As you wish."6
Carron bowed, as was required for a person of lower standing, and left the room.7
Once outside, heading for his own tent, he allowed his disappointment and anger to show.8
Ducking through his doorway, he began to rethink his decision to join Cougra instead of Amlach.9
"She can forget trying to assign me into her forces again," he muttered to himself. "It's time for a change."10
As soon as he had finished packing what few things he had, he departed the camping place as Cougra had instructed him to do and headed off in search of Amlach.
