While Dai went and got himself a drink from a nearby stream that Misty had discovered, Misty stood holding water for the horse.1
"I'm starting to get confused... Dai is back with me again, helping me again. I'm not sure I could leave him a second time.."2
She sighed as she aimlessly stroked Deor's neck.3
"What would you do if you were feeling like this?" she asked the horse.4
When Misty heard Dai returning from the stream, she stopped her train of thought and turned to smile at him.5
"Long time, no see, my friend!"6
"It hasn't been that long. Here," Dai traded places with Misty, taking the horse's water and handing Misty some water of her own. "I thought you might be thirsty,"7
Misty accepted the water gratefully, grinning. "You bet I am! How could a girl like me fight and not be thirsty afterwards?"8
"Good point,"9
Dai looked thoughtful as he stroked Deor's neck, much as Misty had.10
"Watcha thinkin' about?" she asked him curiously.11
"Nothing," Dai's glance fell on her for a moment, then went back to the horse. "Nothing important anyway. At least not right now it isn't..."12
"Alright," Misty shrugged and smiled. "I can tell when you don't want to tell me something. Where did you pack the food?" she asked, looking through the saddlebag. "Let me guess... It's in the bottomless pit?"13
"Oh, come off it. My organizing skills aren't that bad. It's on the left." he informed her indignantly.14
"Ah hah!" Misty exclaimed as she pulled a small package from the bag. It contained a very tasty and sustaining cross between bread and a cracker, but was rather sweet too.15
She broke off a little piece for Dai, then got one for herself and placed the package back where she'd found it, showing off that she did so.16
"See here? I'm considerate."17
Dai rolled his eyes at her as he set the horse's water container on the ground, lengthening Deor's lead so she could reach it and sat back against a tree to eat.18
"I wish we could cook up some more of that meat, but the sooner we get all this over with, the better."19
Misty nodded in agreement. "I know what you mean,"20
After they had finished eating, they packed up the few things they had gotten out, and moved on towards the enemy they would eventually have to fight. All they had to do was keep on walking.
