Both arrows hit their targets simultaneously. Within seconds, two more arrows were flying into their victims' chests.1
"That's four down, about fifteen to go," Dai announced as they layed their bows aside to be traded for melee weapons.2
Misty had her knives out already by the time Dai drew his sword.3
"Geez! Do you have to be faster at everything than me?"4
Grinning, She replied, "Yep. I do it just to annoy you."5
"I can tell,"6
Dai laughed and dodged a blow from one of the fighters who had gotten to them first. A quick turn-about, and a swing of his sword took his attacker down.7
Misty was busy with her own assailant, fighting him and slicing on-coming arrows in mid-air at the same time.8
With Dai using his strength and force, swinging and chopping, and Misty with her elven grace and speed, dancing with death, all their enemies were down in about two minutes.9
Breathing hard, Misty thrust her knives down into the last opponant, who had been knocked to the ground moments earlier, killing him swiftly, then looked around herself at the dead bodies.10
"Well, I think that's it for now," she stated wryly.11
"You don't say," came the breathless reply from Dai.12
They wiped their blades clean on the grass, then stood for a moment, evaluating their fallen attackers and catching their breath.13
"Let's get back to the horse and make sure she's still fine." Misty flipped her knives, stabbed them into their sheaths on her back and picked up her bow from where she had lain it on the ground.14
Dai also sheathed his sword and took his bow.15
"Do you think we could take a quick break before we go off into another fight?" he asked.16
"I'm sure our enemies won't mind if we hold them up a bit. After all, they're used to it," her eyes sparkled as she winked at him. "Yeah. I think they can wait for a little while."17
"Good. I need some food. Can't fight on an empty stomach," Dai shrugged good-naturedly.18
"Nope,"19
They linked arms and started walking back to where Misty had tied Deor before the battle began.
