The sun raised and hit a peak through my window and shined brightly on my face, of course it didn’t wake me up it’ll take a lot more than that to wake me up. ‘Rise and shine sleepy head’! My roommate yelled barging into my room. She shaked me and yelled but finally she did the old fashioned thing and poured ice cold water on my head. “Ok I’m up”!! Jesse (my roomie) walked out the room satisfied with her achievement of annoying me today. Today was going to be an interesting day. I thought to my self. Before I took a shower and started my day I got a text from Jaclyn asking me how my day is going so far. That’s a story she’ll be glad to hear in person.*meet me at The Den in 10.*I hopped in the shower and did my usually thing. Take a shower, get dressed well I don’t think I have to explain myself. When I was done I ran down stairs almost tripping but regaining my balance while Jesse Laughed. Well you’re a good roommate. I said sarcastically. Well thank you so happy that you think that. Jesse is like the nicest person you could ever meet she’s just not nice to me ever since I put a harmless little snake in her room … Long story short we were having prank wars. I rolled my eyes and walked out the door and drove off in my Mercedes-Benz and I was off. 1
When I arrived at the den I was greeted by Jaclyn. Hey Danny! Jaclyn exclaimed witch caused a disturbance in the room seeing as how it was practically filled with old people. Oh Sorry. She yelled again. I smiled completely stunned by the way she was acting. I pulled her outside. Dude Are you high or something, how many fingers am I holding up. I held up three. Five, She said jokingly. I’m serious. I didn’t smile or show a grin because she really must been on something she’s like the smartest girl in the world or the world I live in. No I’m not high or anything ok a little wasted maybe but high no. I sighed already knowing what’s going on. I took her by the hand and lead her to my car. Drove to the beach witch took about fifteen minutes. She walked out of the car slowly and laid on the sand making a little sand angel and smiling as if there was a real angel hovering above her. She sat up and brung her legs up and placed her chin on her knees. I came over to sit by her. You miss her, don’t you? I said while I watched three tears gently glide down her face. 2
Yea so much there isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t. She sniffles a bit. I take her in my arms while I let her cry on my shoulder. Her sister died last year. She was the only one that was actually there for Jaclyn when she needed her. Her mom and dad hasn’t stop arguing, they’ve been like this since Jaclyn was ten and it never changed and her sister was always there to take care of her no matter what. Since Lauren (Jaclyn’s sister) died she’s resort to drinking and it’s like her parents don’t care. I patted her back as if she was a baby who has had a long day and need some reassurance. Jaclyn looked at me from my shoulder and in a low whisper said thank you. I smiled feeling like a mother and said your welcome witch seemed awkward at the moment. 3
I helped her up and lead her to my car I drove her home in silence. When we got to her house Jaclyn opened the door to a surprise. There before us was her mom on the floor held hostage to her dad with a revolver pointed at her skull. It was like time had stopped and we were watching some sick and twisted play that someone had set up just for amusement, but it wasn’t real it couldn’t be real. It dawned on us that it was when we heard that shot. In tears she ran to her mom her dad shocked that she saw it. It wasn’t supposed to be like this she wasn’t supposed to see. That was running through his head you could tell. Guilt surrounded him. It suffocated him and you could see it on his face. He backed back slowly as she screamed in pain her mom lay dead in her arms. I couldn’t move I couldn’t believe what I saw memories surrounded my head screams of terror and fear. I tried to thing logical but it’s hard when you have a dead person on the floor a screaming daughter and a panicked dad. I breathed trying not to let my fears over cloud me. I clenched my fist wondering what to do. I looked around in search of something. I spotted it out of the corner of my eye. I quickly picked up the phone and Dialed 911. Hel – the woman was interrupted by another load bang and a horrified scream. Hello the woman continued. Hello! She yelled again.4
I couldn’t move I saw Jaclyn on the floor gasping for air she wasn’t dead stunned she was shot in the ribs. Her father had me at gun point. Tears raced down my eyes. I didn’t know what to do I still heard the woman on the phone. I cried out for help. Hopefully she got my message. You don’t have to do this. I said trying to sound like I knew what I was actually saying. I was slowly fading I didn’t know what to do. I couldn’t even breathe. You weren’t supposed to be here. He said in this devious voice that made me fear for my life even more, he continued, Jaclyn was suppose to come home late giving me time to clean up all the evidence but you had to bring her home didn’t you. A silence struck the room for about two seconds then he ended the silence by thrusting the gun into my head harder. Blood dripped down my head. I looked at Jaclyn while she lay on the floor half dead. Did you hear what I said? He screamed. I didn’t say anything. He said the same thing over and over. When I didn’t answer he did what I hope he wouldn’t. He was ready to fire to end my life right there. Ready for death I closed my eyes. Before he could pull the trigger the police arrived. When I thought it was over He pulled out a knife. The policeman panicked and shot him, but he wasn’t going down that easily he abruptly thrusted the knife in my stomach. The pain was killer. I couldn’t take in anything anymore my mind blanked I spaced and, I remembered me gently falling to the ground with a soft thud.
