What It Feels Like for a Girl (Part 6)

Sunlight streamed into the bedroom through the bay window and cast a ray of light over Shaun's face. She raised her head slightly and came face to face with Alex's angelic face. A small smile played upon her lips as she studied his feature while he slept. 'He looks like an angel,' she thought, lightly caressing his jaw with her fingers. 1

His lips were full, soft, and redder than the reddest rose ever created. Stray locks of his black hair fell over one eye, giving him a seductive yet innocent look. Suddenly the temptation to kiss him overwhelmed her. 'No, no, I won't do it,' she told herself. 'He's my best friend.' But those red lips looked so deliciously inviting. Shaking her head, Shaun slowly slid out of Alexander's embrace and got out of bed. Silently, she walked to the door, opening and closing it just as quietly before going down the hall to her room. 2

Once inside, she slipped off the chemise and pulled on a black t-shirt with hot pink piping and a pair of dark blue hip hugging jeans. She went over to the dresser, picked up her hairbrush, and gently began to brush her hair. She gathed her hair back into a thick ponytail, twisted it up, and placed bear claw clip to hold it in place. Her bangs hung in her eyes, soft tendrils of curls fell around her face. After she was ready to face the day, she stepped out of the room and nearly fell into a still shirtless Alex.3

"I see you're up," he said, steading her on her feet. "Hungry?"4

"Food sounds good about now," she replied, turning her face away so he couldn't see the pink flush on her face. 5

He laid an arm around her shoulders and led her downstairs to the kitchen. He motioned for her to have a seat on one of the eight barstools surrounding the island stove. "What are you hungry for, breakfast or lunch?" he asked her.6

"What time is it?" 7

Looking at the clock on the wall over the doorway, he said, "It's just after 11:30 am. So lunch?"8

"Yeah."9

Alex walked over to the fridge and opened the door, pulling out different luncheon meats, cheeses, a jar of mayo and a jar of mustard, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, black olives, and bell peppers. It took two trips for him to bring everything to the island counter. He went to back to the fridge and pulled down a loaf of seven grain wheat bread. 10

Shaun watched as Alex made her a layered sandwich. After he piled the meat, cheese, and veggies on it he cut it in half then placed on a plate for her. Going back to the fridge, he got her an ice cold coke, popping open the tab for her. "Eat up, Shaun."11

"Looks good," she said as she picked up a half then took a bite. It was indeed delicious. "This is very good," she said after swallowing her first bite. 12

Smiling at her, he made himself a sandwich and chowed down. "So what do you want to do today?"13

"I need to call my sisters to let them know I'm okay. Do you mind if I can use your phone?"14

"Sure, no problem. Shaun, you can use anything here without asking me. My house is your house, feel free to do as you please."15

"Thanks, you've done so much already."16

"I will always be there for you no matter what. Whenever you're ready to go home, just say the word and I will take you."17

She nodded slowly and took another bite of her sandwich. Perhaps she had been wrong not to date Alex. He was everything a girl could ask for: smart, funny, sensitive, drop dead gorgeous, and very attentive. Shaun never understood why he had been so fascinated with her even after she rejected him on the romantic level.18

'Maybe I need to re-think my decision about him,' she thought as she ate. Perhaps Alex coming to her aid was a sign for her to take a second look at him. Perhaps the best thing she had was right before all the time and he was now sitting beside...
