Trent Neilson

1. First Name: Trent1

2. Last Name: Neilson2

3. Age: 283

4. Gender: Male4

5. Species: Human5

6. Bodily Appearance: Trent is basically the generic rich boy in coloring and height, blond with pale blue eyes, and around six foot tall. He's in shape but it's more of the fit you get from gyms then doing actual sports, meaning he's not in extraordinary shape or super muscular. Actually he's a bit on the thinner side, but is surprisingly strong for his build. 6

Trent has no scars to speak of or tattoos. He has lead a relatively pampered life and his battles take place in an arena that leave more lasting scars then the ones that simply mar the skin.7

7. Origin: Trent was born to wealthy parents, but unlike his peers, he was not to lead a simple pampered life of leisure. Trent’s family had made names for themselves in the corporate world. They did not believe in leading foolish lives, depending on the money that had been passed down to them through past generations. In the Neilson family, there was nothing worse than being unable to wield power and influence, and you did not get that by sitting on your ass depending on others to make your decisions for you.8

Trent was raised in a household that prepared him for the challenges of life. Nothing was given, everything had to be earned. His father was head of the family, and Trent was going to take his place. No weaknesses were tolerated, in time he not only excelled in all things he was expected to excel at, (in school and socially) but in other areas, (he had his first business at the age of fifteen and turned it into a much more profitable organization by the time he was sixteen.) By the time he was twenty he began to even surpass even his parents influence, both socially and in the business world.9

Around the time he graduated collage, he ran into a young woman who captured his interest and became somewhat of a secret obsession of his. Her name was Willow Marsh, and in her he found everything he wanted in a young woman who would eventually be his wife. She was sweet, caring, sensitive, and easy to dominate. (He was not really after a challenge). Her low self esteem that belied a deep strength intrigued him. 10

Also, it didn’t help that she was heiress to one of the largest fortunes that he had ever heard of, and her family was so very thrilled that he was interested in her.11

8. Love Interest/s: Willow Marsh (Later Neilson) 12

9. Likes & Dislikes: 13

Likes order, power, obedience, and those who fear him, money, bacon and eggs for breakfast, the color blue in general and soft pastel colors in women’s clothing. (Really that is all they should wear.) Working up an honest sweat in the gym. Violence and domination.14

Dislikes: Cocky upstarts that need to be made an example of (no wait he likes making examples... He doesn‘t like being put out over them.) Oatmeal. He hates oatmeal. It is for the weak and invalid. Most of his family, as they are much more inept then he is. Inept people in general actually, as they are rarely useful. People who think to make him wait. Impatience in others. Kiss ups who think to curry favor. Disobedience.15

10: Virtues: Trent has very little of what could be considered a ‘classic’ virtue. He has patience in spades, and will let nothing stand in his way of achieving his goals. He has an amazing amount of self confidence, but does not let it cross the line to cocky. He does not show off, unless it is a good natured competition among his ‘friends‘. Though he desires power, he will not jump on what seems to be an easy opportunity, he plans and weighs and measures. Easy answers are seen as traps.16

11. Vices: He has a rather short temper when it comes to some things, any perceived disobedience in his wife is the main trigger of his anger fits. (In other matters, business and social, he remains unruffled in the face of even the greatest potential failure, somehow able to exploit something to turn it to a success.) 17

12. Ambition/Desire: To simply be the best in all areas that he is involved in. Other than that, just to marry and have a child or two, raising them up to carry on the legacy he will leave to them.18

13. Conflict: His primary conflict for years was his wife and showing her that her proper place was at his side. She had some incredibly feminine idea that he had to be ‘worthy’ and left before the wedding was finalized. He had to actually track her down and show her where she belonged. She’s a surprisingly simple girl really, prone to foolish romantic flights of fancy.19

Once that was done, the conflict of balancing home and family of course.20

14. Vocation/Calling: Trent works in business. Stocks and wall street and such, but he also buys out smaller companies (Hostile or not) and makes them more profitable. Be it by disassembling them and selling off the peaces or liquidating their assets and absorbing them into larger companies. (He’s rather vague about all of this.)21

15. Additional Notes: Trent is oddly strong for a man of his height and build. Not abnormally so, but it is something commented on. He has raised a few eyebrows. His household staff are beneath him in every way shape and form imaginable, and they do not qualify as people to him. Before he was married he often took out his anger aimed toward Willow on them. 22

Trent also sees his wife as something less. Her social standing and wealth were desirable, but he thinks her rather stupid and socially inept, incapable of all higher understanding. He sees her kindness as weakness, and though women are allowed a measure of understanding for such weaknesses, hers can aggravate him at times. As Willow is a bit of a slow learner, and her own family viewed her the same way, there is not much evidence to dissuade him.23

Trent is also an Empath. That is he is able to feel the emotions and feelings of others as his own if they are within his ‘range’ of feeling, or have tactile contact. He has not only trained himself ruthlessly in control of this, he uses it to his advantage shamelessly. After all, it is just another talent. But this is not a widely known fact about him.24

Second section: A sample scene (100 - 400 words)25

Trent sat in the chair of his office working. The day outside his glass walled office was clear, blue and calm. Not that he paid any notice. Not that he cared at all actually. The numbers coming in on the third quarter projections were what held his attention, and they were less then what his babbling managers had assured him would be coming in. Before he could consider a plan of action the intercom buzzed. He did not say a word to acknowledge it, his secretary knew better.26

“Mr. Neilson, your cousin Lucas is here.”27

“He does not have an appointment.” Trent said as he flipped to the next page in the report.28

“No sir but he insists-” She was cut off by his door being thrown open as his clown of a cousin came into the room smiling widely at Trent who was less then amused. 29

If you believed in understatements…30

“I am so sorry sir,” His pale wide eyed secretary said breathlessly behind the man who turned to give her his attempt at a charming smile. The effort was wasted, the woman would sooner faint than actually flirt in Trent’s presence. She at least knew work was a time for working.31

“No need.” Trent said with a wave of his hand. 32

“Y-yes sir. Thank you sir.” She said, backing out of the room. Of course she was going to be fired by the end of the day. She should have called security before coming in.33

“Let me guess, she’s fired?” Lucas asked taking a seat. Trent, not seeing the point of wasting manners on a man who could not be bothered to knock hadn’t bothered to rise in greeting, a point that was not lost on his cousin. Just as the two years younger man opened his mouth to deliver what was certin to be a smart comment. 34

“Why are you here Lucas?” Trent asked, forgoing small talk.35

“The Marsh girl. People are talking Trent, and they aren’t saying good things.”36

“This coming from you?” Trent asked, arching an eyebrow. His cousin lived the playboy lifestyle in the most extravagant way. And though his parents were of the Neilson family, they lived like hippies. Lucas was a familial embarrassment, and hardly one to bring up the word ‘scandal’.37

“That’s precisely why you should pay attention.” Lucas said seriously.38

“Cousin, trust me,” Trent said with a smile, “By this time next week, all your fears, thoughtless as they are, will be done with.” 39

Thank you for entering the contest 'Novels - Your Character' - I hope the contest has helped you understand your character better.

Trent comes across as somewhat stereotypical - a rich boy with generic rich boy looks. How you develop his character is what makes him unique. Giving him the unusual character trait of an Empath is what makes him a more of a well-rounded character. That he is ambitious and ruthless means that he sees this extra skill as something he can use to help himself rather than others.
