The last Blaze-Turin: Chapter one

Chapter 1 1

Matt is sitting at the edge of the sidewalk and sighing. I push my nose under her hand hoping to put him in a better mood. He is angry about the trip that he has to go on and I wonder why he doesn’t just stay home with me. A big bright yellow monster stops in front of him and I bark loudly…everyday it comes and stops here but I still don’t like the way it opens it’s side mouth and swallows up human pups. He walks to the mouth and climbs inside, then it closes and the monster runs away.2

I start walking home holding my tail high and a strange scent tickles my nose. I chase it down the road and start to hear faint whining. I stop and sit to listen on the black hard road. Monsters, smaller and of different colors than the first, run past me. A large white monster slows and stops and I cock my head to a side wondering what it wants. A male human steps out baring his teeth and holding a long rope. I run but come face to face with a monster and then wail in pain as it charges and hits me. I go to sleep whining in pain on the ground. A bright light wakens me and I roll over on my stomach to yawn. My nose hits that of another sleeping dog and he opens his eyes. 3

“ Hello.” He yawns to me and sits up. 4

“ Um…where am I?” I ask standing and taking a step away, then closing my eyes trying to smell my way around, like I loved to do in strange situations. 5

“ Where all lost ones come.” 6

“ Lost?” I sit (eyes still tightly closed). “ I’m not lost at all…I was going home when a human came and made a monster hit me.” 7

“ Ha!” He droops his tongue and laughs. “ A monster hit you?” 8

“ Yes a monster hit me. What else do you call those things that run around the roads all day?” I growl. 9

“ How’s about calling them cars?” 10

“ Cars? What kind of a ridiculous name is that?” 11

“ It’s the name of the small monsters that you see. The medium ones that hold many humans are vans, the ones that hold children are school buses, and the giant ones are trucks.”12

“ Interesting…so, how do you know all this?” 13

“ I’ve listened to the humans speak.” 14

“ But dogs don’t speak human.” 15

“ Well, I’m not a dog.” 16

“ You’re not a dog?” I bark. 17

“ No. I’m a Turin.” 18

“ What?” I tilt my head cutely and open my eyes. 19

“ I’m a Turin and so are you.” 20

“ Again I repeat…what?” 21

“ Don’t you know what a Turin is? I mean, aren’t you one?” 22

“ No. I’ve never even heard of it. And I’m just a dog, not whatever a Turin is.” 23

He laughs again. “ A dog? You think that you’re a dog?” 24

“ No, I am a dog.” 25

“ Dew, you’re a Turin not a dog.” 26

“ Dew,” It’s the dog name for a female fox. “ Don’t call me ‘Dew’. I’m a dog, not a fox.” I growl.27

“ Well, Turin can be called Dews too.” 28

“ I’m not that either! I’m just a typical and loved pet dog.” 29

“ Okay, okay, I give up. You’re a beautiful and wonderful pet dog.” 30

“ I never said those, but it’s all true.” I lick his muzzle. “ Thanks for the kind words.” 31

“ You’re welcome. But can I at least show you what a Turin is?” 32

“ Like a dog right?” 33

“ Don’t you think that I’m far too cute to be a dog?” He stands and walks in a circle. 34

I see that he looks more like a cross between a cat, wolf, and fox than a dog. He is a dark gray and has bright (to a human, yet dull to me) green eyes. By the muscles that bulge under his skin and fur I can see that he’s very strong but is flexible enough to get into very tight spaces. My new friend was handsome too and I bark to show that I see what he means. 35

“ You definitely aren’t a dog…” I bark. “ But I am and look just like I should.” 36

“ If you could only see yourself right now you’d know what you really are.” He yawns.37

“ I’m just a dog. Not a Turin.” I’m getting tired of him trying to convince me that I’m a Turin. 38

“ Well, Mrs. Doggy. Lets go get a look at your reflection…” He stands and starts walking away with his long fluffy tail curled high over his back. 39

“ Hey!” I bark after him. “ My name is Sianu not doggy.” 40

“ Your human named you Sianu?” He stops and turns to me. 41

“ No, my mother did. My human named me Siena.” 42

“ My birth name is Nauru, and I’ve never had a human.” 43

“ But, where are you going?” 44

“ Just come with me.” 45

I get a chance to look around and notice that I’m in a large white room in a human dwelling. It is empty and the floor is slippery. An open entrance is on one side and I follow Nauru out of the room. We walk down a hall and pass several other entrances all with Turin, like him but of many different colors, staring out at us. 46

“ How long have you been here?” I ask. 47

“ Most of my life…and so have the others.” 48

“ You mean that you’ve never been outside?” 49

“ Not never. We’ve all been outside at some point. It’s just that each time we come into our elements we change.” 50

“ What?” I ask. 51

“ Oh. So you really don’t know much about Turin do you?” 52

“ I only know how they look and the little things that you’ve taught me.” 53

He stops and sits; I do the same and tilt my head. The other Turin that we passed surround us and wrap their long tails around themselves. 54

“ How does one not know of their own kind?” A dew asks. 55

“ But, I’m not one of you.” I bark. “ I’m just a¾” I’m interrupted by something bright and reflective held up to my face. 56

I stare at the creature I see denying any idea that it might be me. I see a frisky looking face, mostly cream but brightly colored yellow around my blue eyes but between them was bright yellowy orange. My chest is orange too but with bright yellow in between the orange and cream. The rest of me is black except for my long yellow tipped tail and my paws, which are either yellow or orange. I turn away and run through the crowd of Turin. The thing that I saw was beautiful but it couldn’t have been me. I’d never looked at my reflection before but I felt sure that I couldn’t have looked like that. There is no way that a dog can look like that…unless…unless I wasn’t what I thought that I was. 57
