What He Didn't Say

"Aw, come one babe", he moaned, "I didn't mean it, you know that, babe!"1

He gazed at her, forcing himself to look guilty and sorry.2

"My little pretty bunny?"3

I did a sudden movement that caused the vase beside me to decend violently. Peter didn't seem to notice, yet his girlfriend turned toward my direction.4

"You just have to know how much I'm not your babe", she grumbled. furiously.5

"Aw come one, you know you are", he whined, affectionately carressing her cheek.6

"I hate you!"7

With those final words, she marched out of the house with no hesitation. Peter followed her rapidly, trying to catch her before she left. I stayed in, staring at them. 8

Sooner or later, I thought.9

"BABE!" Peter shrieked, "Don't go! I didn't mean to! I CAN EXPLAIN! COME BACK!"10

She swore countless words before driving away. I watched her car, knowing that this was the time for her consequence.11

I moved my hand slightly and sighed, looking carelessly at her car, hearing her saying that she should have finished off.12

I moved my other hand strongly, and started toward Peter, who had ran to his lawn where he sobbed. 13

CRASH! CRASH! CRASH!14

Mr. Fluffy was by my heels, rubbing lovingly against me, not making a small movement at each sound.16

Her car had crashed with someone else's, obviously, and I picked up my darling and left the neighborhood at a slow pace.17

And I knew...with every particle...that if he had said the right words she'd stay.18

If he had only said these three simple small words, then they would be laughing over this fight. And I knew. But I didn't say.19

I love you. 20

And that, my friends, was something he didn't say.21
