I stared absently at the dark space but the light is just blinding me. My voice is my heart, singing. I kept strumming my guitar along with the drum, which was accompanied by a guy who was kind to do it for me for today. I kept singing.1
"You and your car...
You and your guitar...
I can't help loving you.
It's your shirt
that brought you
in my life...
We learned to love what we were.
It's the road
that brought us
this far...
We came to where we wanted...
It's the sign
that brought us
to the end.
We returned back to where we were..."2
I filled my lungs.3
"You and your car.
You and your guitar.
It's more than I can take.
You and your car...
You and your guitar...
I can't help loving you.
But I can't live a life
on the road...
It's more than I can take.
Love is beautiful.
It's so... beautiful.
But it kills me.
...It kills me...
You and your car...
You and your guitar...
...I can't help...
...loving you...
But it's more than I can take...
You and your car...
You and your guitar..."4
I strummed my guitar of the ending, closed my eyes, held myself in darkness, listening to the fading of my guitar. When done, I inhaled in much air to fill up my lungs, bringing about the tingles of sweat on my arms. I jumped off the stool and walked in backstage. Someone, who was one of those in duty of backstage, passed me water. I took it and drank it with thirst. I entered my room, placed the guitar in its case. I let myself fall on the sofa and dozed off for what seemed a long time.5
I was dreaming a vague memory. It was that black dress. I saw myself running in the dress, barefoot as well as naked. It was so hot I had neither bra nor garter. I ran like a creature from the wild. Feeling this in dream was the most beautiful thing. I love that black dress. I could run forev-6
"Wake up, Cee."7
I blinked open, having my eyes adjust to the face of my tired boss.8
"Cee, there's someone in the back. He said that he's here for you." 9
I gave a murmur, showing that I hear him. I got up and left my boss in the room. I didn't care to think who it was, but when I went out the back of the building, I regretted not thinking.10
"Cecilia!" The man in outfit that was all clean and black took my waist in his arms and lifted my feet off the ground. "Hello, love!" 11
I groaned. "What makes you come here?" I hadn't seen this man in half a man.12
"I miss you!"13
"OK, so... What's the point coming here?"14
"I am here to kidnap you from this small town."15
"Jamie..." I wasn't surpised, just almost bored about his oh-so-perky attitude. "I am not going anywhere near that car of your. Nor will I follow like a moth to your guitar, if you think it would work just like the first time..."16
"Yeah, it worked, didn't it?"17
"Shut up. Just tell me why you are here."18
"Umm, you told me to shut up, then I'ma not sayin' anything."19
"Talk." Giving him the word.20
"All right, it's sooooo booorrrriiinnnggg without you. I miss you so much I can't even breathe. It's like you are my air."21
"Forget it. I am not going anywhere with you. I had enough..."22
A long silence. It should be awkward the way things are now, but strangely having him in my sight, seeing that he stared at the ground, it was comforting like many other silences we shared on the road.23
I sighed long. "Do you have anywhere to sleep?" Not minding what I suggested because I really just don't mind.24
"Yeah, it would be nice to sleep with you again." He was having an idea.25
I cut it. "No touching."26
His shoulder slumped. He put his hands in his back pockets. "OK, thanks... Love."27
I stepped back, letting him through the door. When he came by me, he stopped. "Love, I will make you come with me."28
"Sorry, it will never happen."29
He smiled that cocky-assed grin. "Well, we will see." He leaned down and kissed a quick one on my lips and went in.30
