Knight of the Tigress: chapter 12

Tuesday at 1:00pm on August 20, 19851

Michael sat in an office chair across from Ms. Brooks' desk. On the white walls were pictures of Galaxies Corporation of old and new products.2

Ms. Brooks sat in her tan leather chair. Her light brown hair pulled back into a bun. She wore a navy blue jacket with a white silk blouse and simple gold earrings.3

Michael noticed there were no pictures of family or a boyfriend on her desk.4

“I saw you have been talking to my secretary, and I came over; to see if I could help you. Since you are in my office, could you explain why you are here? ” 5

“My name's Michael Knight. I'm investigating a case has lead me to you and your company. ” 6

“Please, Mr. Knight, you must be joking.” Ms. Brooks leaned in her chair. “What does your case have to do with my company?”7

“I was investigating a person who was being blackmailed and who did business for you. Two weeks ago, you had six boxes stolen. I found them at his warehouse.”8

Her eyes widened. “My missing computers! I thought they were gone for good.”9

Michael brought his hands together. “I didn't find your missing computers.” 10

“Mr. Knight, what did you find?” 11

“I found experimental drugs in your boxes instead of your regular shipments.” 12

“I don't know how they got into my boxes, but I'm willing to help you anyway that I can in this situation.” 13

“I need the information on those shipments, so that I can track down the people who are responsible for this mess.” 14

“Of course, Mr. Knight,” she said, while she pushed a button on her phone. 15

“Yes, Ms. Brooks?” 16

“I need a work-up on the stolen shipment for Michael Knight who is in my office now,” she said. Her finger released the button and looked at Michael. "Is there anything else I can do please do not hesitate to call or stop by.17

“I'll do that, and thank you for your time,” Michael said, as he left the office. 18

The secretary handed him the information that Ms. Brooks had requested. Then he left the office, returned to KITT, and reviewed the information. Something bothered Michael about this company. He just could not put his finger on it. 19

“KITT, get of hold of Devon and tell him about the information I have received from Miss. Brooks.”20

“Right away, Michael,” KITT said. 21

Michael thought about Larry Dimes the owner of the warehouse business. The clues did not add up; but it would come to him.22

“KITT, did you do a work-up on Larry Dimes?” 23

“Yes, I did. He has no record.”24

He drove away to visit the trucking company that Galaxies Corporation used to deliver their products to their buyers.25

1:30p.m.26

Jamie returned to her bedroom and grabbed her pill bottle. Twisted off the lid and took out a pill. She popped it in her mouth by followed by a sip of Mountain Dew as she sat on the bed. She placed the can of pop back on the nightstand and she lay down. Chloe walked into the room.27

“No wise cracks about Michael.” Jamie fixed her pillow.28

Chloe put her hands on her hips. “I'm not in the mood.”29

Jamie opened her eyes. “What's the matter?”30

Chloe walked to the sofa. “I'm worried about you.” 31

“I just need some sleep and will be fine.” 32

“How much longer do you think that you can live an everyday life? Before you get killed or someone close to you! ” 33

“Chloe, please, you're like a sister to me. Can we have this discussion later?” Jamie turned on her side.34

“Your brother gets stabbed. You and Michael had to rescue your sister. When will this madness stop?”35

Jamie rolled over and sat up. “Do you want to go back to London? I won't be upset if you do. ” 36

“I'm thinking more like King's Lynn to visit my uncle.” 37

“When?”38

Chloe's eyebrows went up as she stood. “You can sit there and ask me when! I don't get you. ” 39

“Joined the club,” Jamie paused. “I don't want to see you hurt. I'm not going to force you to stay or not going to lie. Things are turning into dangerous now. I'm asking you to stay until the aid package deal is finished. Then I'll buy you a round trip ticket. ”40

“Who's going to look after you while I am gone?”41

“I give that job to Trish.” Jamie giggled. “How much time I have left, I want to spend with my family before I've to move on with the next phase of my life.” 42

“Alright, then. Get some sleep and I will work on my to-do task, boss.”43

Chloe walked to the door as Jamie lay back on the bed. 44

“You're going to have fun with Michael tonight.” Chloe grinned.45

“Ha ha, very funny.” Jamie heard the door closed as she shut her eyes.46

Douglas Steele sat in his office behind his desk, reading his business reports as an unmark envelope lie on his desk. He picked it up and opened it. A type written letter, and he read it carefully. Douglas picked up the phone and made a call.48

"I've found the letter,” he paused, “she does have one weakness, use a low stun gun on her.” His eyes caught the movement outside of his window. Douglas watched the black t-top pulled up at his trucking company. “Good. I have to go.” He hung up the phone and left his office to go meet the visitor.49

Michael walked through the outer office looking around to see if there was anything out of place. There was nothing. He turned around. Douglas stood right behind him.51

“May I help you, sir?” 52

“My name's Michael Knight. I'm investigating a stolen shipment from Galaxies Corporation. The cargo switched on its route before it reached my client's warehouse.”53

“Miss. Brooks told me that you were coming over to pay me a visit and check out my company.” 54

Michael's radar went up when heard this information. “Do you have a problem with that?” he asked. 55

“No. Let me explain. I am leaving for a business trip tonight and Ms. Brooks wanted me to know that you were going to stop by, so that I could answer all your questions.”56

“How about a tour of your company?” he asked.57

“Follow me, Michael.”58

Michael and Douglas began the tour of the trucking company. KITT tapped into the company's computers and searched in the computers’ files. He came of cross a code name, which had nothing to do with the business. Michael and Douglas came back to the office. Michael noticed a letter lying on the desk.59

“Everything seems to be in order. Do you have any ideas what have has happened?” Michael questioned.60

“No. A ring of hijackings in the area but the police has no leads. Please, excuse me. I must get ready for my trip. ” 61

“Well then, I better get out of your hair so you can leave for your trip.” 62

Michael shook his hand with Douglas, and then they departed from each other. Michael returned to KITT.63

“Michael, everything is in place except for one thing?” 64

“What’s it, pal?” 65

“I found a name in the computer.” 66

“Protected?” 67

“Yes.” 68

“What is Mr. Steele hiding?” he asked. 69

His thoughts went back to yesterday about his breakfast meeting at the local restaurant with Helen and their chat about the case. Her disguise was excellent as her hair looked like a natural blonde-haired woman and her face looked so different from when Claw revealed herself at the cabin. He knew he was missing something that he could not put his finger on it. 70

Why would Claw give the antidote for the A.P. drugs? She knew too much about the drugs it does not make sense.71

“KITT, lets go see Devon.” 72

KITT contacted Devon and told him they were returning to the Foundation.73
